You have a beautiful collection and great taste in literature.
I have the War and Peace (Tolstoy) 3 volume set with the slipcase. Really impressed with the quality of them. Definitely going to get more books from Everyman!
Which set do you prefer war or peace??

I love the Everyman’s Library editions but I’m tempted to get rid of the dust jackets-I love the look of the raw book.
I removed all from mine and some of them grew quite dusty lol
I'll definitely get these book. Astonishing qualities.
These are great. Take a look at Library of America. The LOA books are comparable to the Everyman's, but they only feature American Literature. I love their books, fit right in the hand and are consistently of good quality as well. A good complement to Everyman's.
I really love Everyman's Library editions, they're cheap enough that it's a no-brainer to buy them on a whim, unlike Folio Society where you have to think twice about the cost. Though I wish they'd pick up the pace of releasing new titles, which seems to be quite slow in recent years, and stick more to classics.
Incidentally I recently purchased the Everyman's Library edition of Gulliver's Travels, and it had sewn binding. So those glue bound copies might finally be out of circulation.
Those covers for Huxley's Brave New World and Dostoevsky's the Adolescent are wonderful, hadn't seen them before.
just received my copy of war and peace in 3 volumes, so impressed!
i have the count of monte cristo. it’s so pretty 🥰 down to the red ribbon ✨ they’re my favourite modern editions.
The only thing i have problem with Everymans' Count of Monte Cristo is their translation. Buss' translation is the best translation when reading Count of Monte Cristo but it's only available in Penguin Classics
Love the collection!
:-)
i love your beautiful books. thankyou
Good collection.
Two questions for you. Does this copy of Demons have the originally censored Confessions chapter? And are there any authors you suggest starting with a cheap paperback first before investing in hardcovers to make sure you like them?
Is the Dracula one good? Thinking of ordering it. It seems to be a book that doesn’t have a stand out edition that’s at a reasonable price.
I've only one question about these editions - do they have notes also? Like transactions of French for Jane Eyre, for example. Or other relative to the text notes at the end of each book? Your reply would be very much appreciated!
There’s a nice new version of the art of war
Loved
How do you compare the quality of Everyman editions to Library of America books?
Great collection! May I recommend you 'Ficciones' by Jorge Luis Borges? It also has an edition by Everyman's Library, and he truly is one of the best short story writers of the twentieth century, with deep philosophical topics in most of them. I think you may like it!
What color cloth is the Old Testament…heard the religious texts are a yellow mustard color??
Have you read "Reflections on the Revolution in France" yet?
I've noticed there are two Everyman hardback versions of Burke's book .. 1160 pages (£24.92) and 896 pages (£12.99).
Hi! Do the Dostoievski novels have notes at the end?
I am really tempted to buy them but notes are a deal breaker for me..
Well my reply is pretty late but yes, the Dostoyevsky novels do have notes at the end. Hope you end up buying them.
Is there a reason why some of their books have a plain cover and title, why some have a plain cover but fancy title, and why some even more have fancy cover-picture and fancy title?
Depends on if it’s published in the UK or the US, different versions. I also find it strange, but that’s how it is!
What is the font like in these editions? I am so tempted to buy several!
I have several Everymans Library books reviewed on my channel! :-)
Inner thought tell me to rob your house just for these books 😂, amazjgn collection, fron india its very hard to find authentic secknd hand books for everymans, ends uo costing more. I recommend you rk narayans omnibus, the first edition, which includes engliah teacher bachelor of arts sawmi and friends and dark room, some of the mkst simple yet sweetest stories, with much to deep read into, narayan is a literary giant of india, also recommend you the best selected stories of rabindrananth tagore, very sweet book of the best poet from India!!
Very nice! Do you keep the dust jackets on when they're displayed on the bookshelf?
Yup!
I have never had that happen
@@patrickoshnock6925 Everymans books? Sounds weird
@@patrickoshnock6925 Do you have the older versions? I can scratch quite hard without it even remotely comes off!
Does the George Orwell Essays book contain all of Orwell’s essays or does it only contain some?
It's a selection of essays and not all of them (there's still a lot of them!).
Pontus Presents Cheers pal, that’s super!
Do you have war and peace by everyma's library [boxed set]?
Nope, I don't!
I get these books for free at my local library!
No way!!!
@@morningstarrss way
Surprised you don't have Don Quixote
Unfortunately, Everymans picked the worst translation available for Don Quixote.
This is not a “religious” thing, but I wanted to comment that I think it’s weird that the Old Testament is readily available as such, for students of ancient texts and history aficionados and such…yet, the New Testament is not?? I would encourage you to find a nice version of it and read *IT* as well. I mean, why not?
I own the 1611 King James Authorized New and Old Testaments published by Everyman's. Everyman has the new testament as well. One thing that sets Everyman's Library apart from typical bible publishers is they are reader focused in their formatting. This means that font size is large and readable and the paper is thick, like a novel. Because of the thick paper, they had to split the book into multiple volumes, which is common with Everyman's. War and Peace is in 3 volumes, for example.
It's also in single column, although it is not in paragraph format and each numbered verse starts a new line. These versions also include an introduction with background information about the translations and creation of the King James Bible, and even includes the original letters to King James by the translators included in the original Bible. The only flaw with this version of the bible as a historical facsimile is that it does not include the apocryphal books that were included in the original Bible.
50 books, only two female authors. EveryMan's library indeed!
Nice collection otherwise however!
The have many though! Austen, the Bronte sisters, Kate Chopin, Virginia Woolf, edith Warton, etc
@@jimbob2703 Bruh you just wrote a whole paragraph responding some assumptions you had about this person
Good female authors are very rare.
@@folksurvival No. Rather, good female authors have been marginalized through out history. Both by publicists, reviewers and by the education system and the cultural "elite" that desides on which works that should be considered "classics".
It might be time to redeem that, and bring forth all the overlooked great female authors of past and present.
@@horrudu4081 False.
The first thing you should do when you get home with an Everyman's Library edition is take the dust cover off and throw it in the trash. Those are just to protect the cover when it's in the store. They're meant to be displayed on the shelf without them. Whenever I go to someone's house and they have EL editions with the covers still on it just screams plebeian.
I keep the dust cover, you know why ??? To protect my books and to protect the cloth cover and I like it.
Why do you even care how people display them? jeez
You have issues.
The dust jackets have gorgeous artwork on them that I'm definitely not throwing out.
But I love the cover and don't want my book getting dusty.
I've only one question about these editions - do they have notes also? Like transactions of French for Jane Eyre, for example. Or other relative to the text notes at the end of the book? Your reply would be very much appreciated!
