  • www.crosstraini... Is there any value in joining a dirt bike club? Welcome to our 30 minute enduro club vlog. Are dirt bike clubs a thing of the past? Or are they the key to keeping our riding areas open? Why aren't dirt riders generally keen to join a club... are they a waste of money? This was an online discussion with Dallas Shannon from Traction eRag and Barry Morris from Cross Training Enduro. Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists. Welcome to Cross Training Enduro, with over 100 free training vids for riders on bike setup through to basic, intermediate and advanced skills. How good are our vids? Well we are the 27th most watched dirt channel in Uzbekistan. We have won the polished turd award five years in a row. And we have a world record 25 class action lawsuits for inaccurate coaching information. Why are called cross training? We have a focus on hard enduro, and most of the pro riders are former trials champions. So we apply trials techniques to enduro techniques, with coaching tips from some of Australasia's best riders: Tim Coleman, Chris Birch, Ruben Chadwick and Trevor Campbell. We even have tips from the hard enduro meister himself, Graham Jarvis. This channel covers many hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. While we mainly discuss the advantages of dirt bike clubs in this vid, there's plenty more. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos. The real fun starts when you see us middle aged dirt muppets trying to learn hard enduro skills. And speaking of fun, we do try to seriously present the best training tips possible, we think dirt riding should be fun... and a bit dumb. So we include tips on how to keep a KTM running, how to manage your gimp, how to enlarge your testicles, how to manage diseases, which body protection to use, how to buy Graham Jarvis' condom catheter, what to wear, the best cigarettes, and better riding through beer. The dirt riding is getting too commercial for our liking. Everyone is trying to sell you shit you don't need, convince you to buy the latest model dirt bike with 1mm extra suspension travel. If you are enduro riding get into our enduro training vids. Offering prizes, bombarding you with ads. Pushing the products they get kickbacks for. Serious reviews, crazy stuff, weekend rides. Get into it. Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. So we actively avoid sponsorship. Running ads on our vids. It also means we can do no bullshit reviews. Manufacturers make some really bad mistakes. and there is a lot of dodgy shit being sold out there. Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques. Instead of glowing reviews for kickbacks or free product, we will try to keep the bastards honest. Whether it's EVS pretending their knee guards are knee braces, strap brackets rusting on Airoh, Leatt and Suomy helmets, lack of quality control on Sidi Crossfire boots. And our bike reviews will actively look for known issues and problems, not just the usual positive blurb. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills.

    Im a believer in clubs. Getting ready to put in a day of trail maintenance up in the Mendocino National Forest with my club. It seems like so many of the great local hiking and mountain biking trails were created by local motorcycle clubs and then were taken away from us.

    I'm in on the Glacial Lakes MC from Watertown, SD, USA. They maintain the South Shore off road riding area as well as do on road events. There aren't many off-road areas around and if the club goes, so does the park. Has a lot of community support with Wednesday night Moto and the annual off-road poker run

    There is an area in my city here in Canada that has been available to the offroad community for decades and generations of people in the area have enjoyed access to it and recently last year the DFO determined that is needed to be shut down and access blocked. There was no consultation about ways to keep it open and now it is a fight to try and get some reasonable access and still maintain the area as a recreational and fish habitat resource. I love my local and provincial clubs here is BC and support them as much as I can.

    I joined our local club, NETRA, mainly to be able to race their events. I have no problem paying an annual fee as they do alot to keep places open and host great events. Well worth my money.

    Excellent points. I've never lived where there has been a riding club.
    I plan to retire in a year or so to an area that does have an off road & dual sport club and I am looking forward to joining it.
    They organize rides of several types as well as trail maintenance which sounds great to me.

    The TRF in the UK campaign to keep our green roads open.
    The South Wales group I'm in has about 500 members and take out newbies and experienced riders on trail rides for trail/enduro bikes as well as routes suitable for adventure bikes on some great routes throughout Wales and beyond.
    11 of us went to Morocco this year and we are riding the French TET down to the Stella Alpina next year.

    We have a club here in the states that rents land on two properties and is maintained by volunteer members. If it weren't for this group we wouldn't have good single track to ride on. Any place that isn't out west is hard to find land to ride on that isn't privately owned that wouldn't land you in jail.

    The BlueRibbon coalition is not a "club" but a umbrella group that is trying to unite all user groups in keeping areas open in the US. I use them and my local club to do my part in keeping the sports that I enjoy open. I never show to the meeting ( 3 young kids and lots of required OT at work keep me running) but I figure $$ is needed more than my smiling face right now.

    Dirt Clubs are the only reason any trails in idaho exist, hiking, mtb, and horse trails wouldn't exist without moto clubs, so many trees fall in the winter if clubs didn't cut them out there would be no trails anywhere. Which is why I think clubs are really popular in Idaho because the trails require so much maintenance.

    I have never been one to be a part of a club. where we live there is lots of public land with great riding. We had an area that was being brought up to pull motorcycles off of it. we formed a club of the local riders to be able to fight against it and were able to keep some of our trails for our effort. We are now also being brought into the conversation on future projects going on. I think the way we look at clubs is what may be needing change. Clubs are absolutely needed to help fight and keep our riding areas open, but we don't have to do on the financial backs of the members. their time is far more valuable to the effort than what they can or might provide with membership dues. We are working on hosting our first Moto event as a means to raise money for the club. In turn it also helps build the moto community more and helps other user groups see that there more of us than they realize and that we also care about these areas and want them there for years to come. We also are the only ones repairing the trails in some areas. Here Wyoming USA ALL of our offroad races are put on by clubs. I think clubs are needed more than ever now, just not for finding people to ride with (although a great way to find folks).

      Well done on keeping trails open. There seems to be more of a 'can do!' attitude in Canada and the USA whereas we Aussies generally love complaining but rarely lift a finger to do anything... maybe just start a poorly worded and disorganised online petition when it's too late.

      @@crosstrainingenduro That Australian online petition was a joke, it only just made the 20,000 signatures required, then when it came time for the rally only a handful of bikes showed up.

      It's a shame. And I remember some Aussies were trying to get overseas riders to sign up. Given our apathy here, I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few signatures were from countries like Canada and the USA.

    We need a rich donator, Then hire an impartial environmentalist firm to do a report on trails vrs logging, oil and gas, and other industries that use natural areas.
    One highway can eliminate thousands of square kms perminantly vrs a trail that can be moved and returned to nature in a couple of years.

    Clubs are to expensive in Australia

  • @glennalderton1313
    @glennalderton1313 10 месяцев назад +1

    First issue is trying to get the "government" to sit down and listen to clubs. That just doesn't happen in Australia, certainly not on the east coast. The Motor Cycle Council of NSW (not a trail riders club) took that issue on but with little success. Second issue is the "club" has to offer something and be seen to be doing something on behalf or trail riders. In OZ, clubs used to be essential so you could ride competitive MX and enduro's but in respect of trail riding clubs, we have but a couple - and yet even they are not prepared to invest the energy to confront the government over trail riding accessibility (but at least they are aligned with the MCC of NSW). Thirdly there exists a ridiculous situation where once a club exists, the creators of the club can be voted out by someone who thinks they can do it better - and generally they don't.
    Social media is easy, clubs are not. To make trail riding clubs a value proposition you need commitment, funding, access to local and state (and in some case, federal) governments. But most importantly, you need the desire, or legislative means to make riders register with a club before they can access "controlled" trails. Carrot and stick. Insurance would be a big plus as I personally believe this is the main blockage for access to trails (single track) irrespective of the hoohaa about environmental concerns.
    In the USA and Canada, clubs already exist that manage access (and all credit to them!) but in Australia, there is virtually nothing and no incentive to make something.

      @crosstrainingenduro  10 месяцев назад +1

      All good points, Glenn. I suspect there's something in the Aussie DNA that works against us. The DRSMRA tried very hard to advocate for us at a national level but eventually quit due to the overwhelming apathy of riders (according to an anonymous representative of the club) so they just organise rides now. Everyone I know who helps to run a club says it only stays afloat because of a handful of dedicated volunteers while 95% of members do nothing to help but expect all the benefits. And it gets demoralising as they are rarely thanked but get heaps of complaints from certain members. Tough gig! I don't know about the USA, but very different in Canada... way less whinging and a lot more 'can do' attitude from what I've seen.

    in England/UK they matter, to me and many i know of - here the clubs i /we fund are there to fight the gvt who try to shut down our legal trails, it works and we all see benefits - we just had quite a big win nationally but it never stops - odd really but there are pressures from other groups who hate bikes and think land is for them not us, of course we could ride without these people who have huge legal knowhow but the trails may/may not close in which case we end up riding illegally which as we know is a short road to shi7e , doable but we know how the law operates when you ignore it....Clubs matter if they work basically

    You can find trails via social media but how do you keep the trails open and even get new stuff? One answer... clubs! A club is like being part of your own political lobbying group. As the old saying goes there is strength in numbers. We even got support from other clubs and organizations to make our political influence even stronger. We got brand new legal singletrack (Red Spring trail system) here in AZ on USFS land, of all places, and AZ State Parks paid (over $200k!) for it! We are now working on Phase 2 of the project and we'll be expanding that very same trail system. BTW, my club, Trails Riders of Southern AZ, only charges $35 a year for club dues and look what we've managed to accomplish, with what was at the time, a club with less than 100 members! Stop the apathy and whining and get to it you wankers!
