The thunder was a nice touch! Great planning 😉. Some of my favorite battlefield walks are in poor weather. They did it in worse…

Garry, I just love these videos you all put together. What a wonderful gift it is. I especially enjoyed the final "zen" section, complete with misting rain and thunder.

Zen felt. Outstanding impromptu video capture of the battlefield. You have developed an eye and ear for videography. Please keep mixing it up. Your reverence and respect revealed in an appealing way. That includes a singular narration approach.

Some horrific hand to hand took place in some spots in the railroad cut. There's also a 'witness' tree over there.

I’m originally from MO. My brother got married in 1988 and we drove right through the battlefield on route 29. I was in awe but couldn’t stop. A couple of years ago, I got to spend some quality time visiting the Battlefield as I live outside Richmond now. Thanks Gary. You do a great job. Ulli enjoys these too!

I love these videos, we went to the 150th anniversary of the Battle of First Manassas in July of 2011 and it was fantastic. Even went on ahead and toured the 2nd Manassas battlefield while there and walked the entire Henry Hill part of the 1st Manassas battle.

I once stumbled on the signs that told the story of said railroad grade. I was out hiking the battlefield for fitness and started to read the signs and got swallowed up by that story. I need to go back and check it out again. Used to live in Manassas. Still only about 30 mins from there.

I tend to put myself in situations where I’m actually there. The sounds. The smells. The screaming of commands and terror filled dismemberment. The sound of heavy horse and wagon wheels. All at once in my mind, I can stand in the middle of it.
But after reading ‘Rebel Yell’ and listening to this man’s brief historical interjection, I can not help but feel like I’m gonna puke.
I will never, no one will ever, really know just what took place on any of these fields between 61’ and 65’
    Much the better.🇺🇸

The soldier in my avatar is my g-g-grandfather who was in the 60th Georgia of Lawton's Georgia Brigade. He was killed on August 26 at the Battle of Bristoe Station/Kettle Run. It was a rearguard action designed to buy time as the rest of Jackson's army destroyed Pope's supply base. Destroying Pope's supplies forced Pope into making a decision to either fight or flee. Pope decided to fight, and went after Jackson.
The two brothers of my ancestors survived the war but both were wounded multiple times. They fought at Groveton and Second Manassas.
I was invited to attend the 150th commemorative of the Battle of Bristoe Station/Kettle Run as a guest of honor. I allowed the battlefield preservation group to use the photo of my ancestor on a battlefield marker. The marker is close to where he fell. My sons and I were given a personalized tour by a battlefield guide. The guide had requested permission to metal detect to find where where my ancestor's firing line was positioned. He found it by looking for a line of dropped, unfired bullets. So we were able to get photos of all of us standing where he fell. It was very emotional to us. It's difficult to explain. I do know what his widow went through, and that he never saw my g-grandfather because he was born just after he was killed. I found the paperwork where his widow tried to get his backpay of $63, and only received it just months before the war ended.
I enjoyed visiting Second Manassas as well. It drizzled rain the entire day and we had the battlefield to ourselves.

My g-g-g-great grandfather was in this battle in the 6th SCV in Jenkins Brigade. In addition, I had several other relatives who were in the Palmetto Sharpshooters(Jenkins Brigade) and in the 17th/18th SCV (Evans Brigade) was involved in this battle.

@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust Can’t beat those matching funds!! I also contributed to the property at Gettysburg on the Baltimore Pike. But wait there’s more. I also contributed a comment on the final Thompson house video concerning buying the adjacent property. I thought you all would get a kick out of it at your next board meeting. “Where’s Stewart” well i’ll save you looking..Gary and team I’ve recently purchased the adjoining parcel to the Thompson home. I’ll be opening a outreach center aimed at young families with children. It’ll be dedicated to bringing back the fun of the Gettysburg Battle. We’ll have a interactive arcade and rides for fun and education. Here’s what i’m thinking.
Pickets Plunge water ride. The main concurse will be Long Street…get it!?! genius i know. For a mascot & pictures we’ll have Loopey Lee. He’ll be a happy lovable loser type thats walks around saying Where’s Stewart!?! I don’t think Tom Arnold is doing anything these days. Heres the tie in w/your organization WHERES STEWART is perfect for the mueseum and you can provide the publicity!!
Ok you better sit down here’s the hook…A haunted Volcano, Much better than a little rocky hill don’t u think? (fireworks I didn’t forget fireworks) we’ll call it Joshua’s Chamber of Secrets. Kinda a Xfiles meets Harry Potter vibe. Very popular with historical researchers these days.
I’ve already have local mediums lined up to give lectures on the Ghosts of Gettysburg. Get this the stage will be a outifitted with actual stones from the devils den with dead soldiers that suddenly rise up as zombies! Ok i know by now you’re as excited as i am and want to get this moving. Please feel free to contact me with your financial participation.

Great job Garry! Love the channel. I was sad to see a statue of Robert E Lee taken down in Richmond today. That a small amount of people who do not understand history try to dismantle it is disheartening. Yes, Lee was a traitor but in the end we must have reminders of our past if we do not wish to repeat it. Perhaps Virginia politicians might save the statue and place it in a battlefield.

    • @ImperialGit
      @ImperialGit 3 года назад +1

I wouldn't be too quick to label someone as a traitor; Lee very likely had his reasons for taking the actions he took in those days, and hundreds of thousands of Americans with him. As for the statue being taken down: that is a great tragedy, and I hope the true Americans will stand up to protect their heritage, be it Southern or Northern; both should be cherished. Kind regards from the Netherlands!
