- Check out the northern most monument of the Antietam Battlefield before exploring the grounds of the Poffenberger Farm. The Dennis Frye shows us some new artillery that was recently placed by the National Park Service.
Frye is a retired Park Ranger and is a Co-Founder of the American Battlefield Trust. Garry Adelman is the Chief Historian at the American Battlefield Trust.
This video is part of our battlefield tour series commemorating the 159th Anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. You can view the whole playlist here: • Unknown Antietam: 159t...
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
I Like Gary's enthusiasm and Dennis's robust statements. A good combination.
Absolutely
I love the passion and energy given in each video it's never some ongoing monotone information
That's Great, that a descendant from the actual time and battle has done the homework and is now the resident expert. I love that.
This is one of the absolute best channels on RUclips! Thank you for all of your effort and work.
Excellent as usual, From Cork Ireland The real Rebel county .
I'm a Derry lad myself, good to see another Irishman here haha.
@@David-lu4gq And me you Dave, I'm sure there's a few more of us !!
Brilliant and interesting as ever 👍
I could watch and listen for hours. Great job
I sense another trip to Antietam, to go to these locations, great stuff guys!!!!
Superb presentation, as usual, Garry and Dennis.
You folks are continually stepping up your presentation and production. Cheers!
What's the new trail called ? And I highly recommend checking out the Sherrick farm trail and others along Antietam creek
Not aware it has a name. Poffenberger?
Great job capturing the subtle nuances of the battlefield.
Fan for life. I love all the videos
Hello Rick, how are you doing?
Wonderful video. Thank you.
Hello Richard, how are you doing?
@@amandadaniel9598 Doing ok. I loved this video. I am a writer-wannabe, and part of one book takes place at the Battle of Antietam. The main character was raised on the farm, so in his dreams on the night of September 16/17, he thinks himself back at home from the smells and sights of the farm. He arises early, as did the First Corps as they prepared for battle.
One of the things you miss in the video...is smell. The traditional smells of animals, fields, but also human waste and horse manure. Thinking about that (if you have experienced it) as you watch the video will help bring history to life.
@@richardglady3009 Lol, that great
So where are chatting from
Love seeing Indiana regiments in the east get some attention. The 7th was the second regiment organized by the State and were at Philippi AND Petersburg - not many units were around for so long and in fighting capacity.
Hello Sam, how are you doing?
Such beautiful country, nicely done gentleman!
Great video! I'll be there tomorrow. this is my favorite CW batllefield and the Rangers and Volunteers at Antietam are top notch. I was fortunate to be part of a tour led by Gary 2 years ago, and it was so interesting and informative, assisting me with my research and my work making videos to map unit movements and locations. I cannot thank the ABT and NPS enough for preserving our history.
Ty so much for your much appreciated work❣️
The best preserved, prettiest Civil War battlefield in the East.
Any time Dennis Frye makes an appearance i stop what im doing and pay attention. This man is incredible.

So glad to see Gary! Love the energy and passion. Thanks for Dennis as well, he is knowledgeable and enjoyable to listen too!
Really good!!
And 99 years later I came along!
I see what you did there, mine was 103 and 355 days after the event
Just happened to come across this on Sept 17th 😳
This reminds me of the east woods battle with the 2nd Massachusetts Captain Gold Shaw fighting the Confederates there.
I didn’t pick up the Corps badge symbol?
Hello Joe, how are you doing?
It looked to my eye like a Sixth Corps symbol, the Greek Cross.
Gary, you guys should sell the blue polos you are wearing. As a member of the Trust I’d love to get one!
Our store will be up and running again soon!
Great job!
Actually. The battle of Schrute farms was the northern most battle of the Civil War
I hope to see the place next summer
Been there many times in college days. Thanks for your.dedication.
Hello Keith, how are you doing?
What college would that be? Just curious, thanks
