Digging Deeper: Cross passages on the Metro Tunnel

With our tunnel boring machines more than halfway through tunnelling, work is now underway to complete the key safety features of our tunnels ahead of 2025.
We recently caught up with our expert on all things tunnelling, Adam Gorny, who walked us through the process of delicately mining and constructing cross passages.
There will be 26 cross passages in the Metro Tunnel to allow emergency services and passengers to move between the twin tunnels.
