    The first half of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

    When you modify a load bearing wall your supposed to build temporary supports. A 2x4 across the floor and the ceiling with 2x4s between as needed. Then do your demo. In this case you were probably fine because it was a short section of wall. But for anyone watching this, modifying a load bearing wall and supports go hand in hand.

    • @jparky1972
      @jparky1972 4 года назад +3

      That's what acroprops are for.
      It that was load bearing, it would have sagged or collapsed.

    • @TPen
      @TPen 4 года назад +11

      That "header" didnt even have cripples under it .. it was nailed into the 2x4 beside it only .. transfering weight through nails lol

    • @chenrunli3354
      @chenrunli3354 4 года назад +6

      Right! It's really important. Everyone please likes these review to the top. I think the beam/header just supports the up floor internal wall, not supporting the roof, so it didn't take up too much weight. In any case, temporary supports should be built before taking out any structural members.

      Yeah horrible builder forgot cripples or not load bearing.. and no temp bracing is straight loco.. shouldn't listen to this guys building advice.
      Also he suggested "screws" for framing.. not sure regular screws are code approved due to their low sheer strength..

    If you ever feel like dumping stuff off from your truck bed, try putting a tarp down to make dragging everything out that much easier!!! Less work if the material isn't too heavy. It's helped me out a lot with time management.

    I love how north american buildings (I don't know in europe) are made of paper and wood. Here in Brazil (I think wood plate is expensive here cuz we don't have straight trees) we use to build EVERYTHING you can imagine from bricks, concrete and iron pillars. Like: oh, I need to build a half wall inside this room... No problem: Brick wall, 1 centimeter of concrete around it, plastering, spackling and paint.

    If it is indeed a low bearing wall, be sure that you added cripples from the top of your header to the bottom of the top wall plate with a tight fit at least 16 inches on center and extend the jack studs on top of the header to create a solid post support from the bottom plate to the top plate. Without the cripples, that rigid header is useless. But then again, maybe I missed that. Love the videos and that can do attitude! Keep up the good work!

    Great video! So my thought is for that angled wall space you’re worried about loss of space... build in some built in pullout drawers! The drawer face can be flush to the wall and then you have a place for shoes, potatoes and other food items that like dark spaces or hide your computer tech etc. or like you said a doggy house, I will say though crying puppies in between your living room and kitchen might not be so appealing lmao! At least my two would manipulate me into letting them out as soon as they hear my foot steps 🤦🏻‍♀️ lol! Regardless if you leave it as it is I’m very excited, most ppl would leave it as is or never attempt to build a workable space for fear they’d ruin some thing!

    that "wasted space" under the stairs that you blocked off , you could put a built in shelf in there from the wall directly below the stairs & use it to store shoes on seeing as its fairly close to the front door. it won't take up the entire space , but it gives you some additional storage and usage out of the now blocked off space.
