even though doomguy in Doom 3 was fearless and didn't got scared of some grotesque shit that he has seen, and just makes a blank expression like "oh it's this guy again."

had like a exotic sound and futuristic which i think was set perfectly with its sound effects and timeframe of the story. doom3 plasma is better, doom 2016's sounds generic scifi

Doom 3 focuses more on stronger, more realistic sound effects, while Doom 2016 has more of an impactful and crunchy vibe at the expense of realism. I'd say they both fit the tones of their respective games, though.

Doom 3 shotgun and super shotgun both have unrealistic sounds, really game-sounds created on computer.
But the worst is the chainsaw, sounds like a 8-bit motor sound in old 80s games.

I prefer the doom3 sounds for sure. Much more distinct and satisfying. Newer doom has that echo effect going for it though. The sound of the pistol shots echoing around sounds really nice. Would be awesome to hear doom3 sounds with that kind of effect!

The ambience and gameplay of Doom 64 and Doom 3 are by far my fave of the bunch.
And from what I've read and seen about Doom 4, it would seem that it was going to be built off of the foundations laid upon by Doom 3 but with combat and movement more akin to what Doom 2016 eventually became except a smidge bit slower comparatively.
All the weapons in Doom 3 sound so much better, clear sounds. Doom 2016 all the weapons sound muffled, like they set the weapons sounds focused on bass.

I think people who find things to appreciate in Doom 3 are some of my favorite people in the world. Doom 3 got so much flack from journos and media and perhaps rightly so. It’s not like it’s predecessors and truly is the red-headed stepchild of the Doom family. But there are glimpses of real greatness in it, perhaps evidenced most clearly in the sound editing. That plasma gun is the stuff of legends.

Putting the actual sounds used aside, notice the amount of work and detail in sound design of Doom 3. The amount of distinguishable sounds when you fire, just from the chaingun clip only. Gunshot sounds, different ricochet sounds depending on distance, surface hit, angle of impact. etc. You can even hear multiple impact sounds from one shotgun shell' pellets hitting the wall. Christian Antkow is a motherfucking genius.
Notice how quiet and empty doom 2016 sounds without music in the background?
Also, 2016 plasma gun's sound is altered when you put a different mod.

I love Doom 3 the most and Doom 64 second. Those games intimidated me when younger, and I love them still. The other dooms are boring, especially Doom 16 and Eternal. I wanted to be scared of Hell and D3 and 64 did. Haters can blow me.
In my opinion, all of the weapons of DooM 2016 kinda sound the same, all the ballistic weapons like shotgun and machine gun at least, and have like this heavy bass sound to it. I think it sounds cool but they sound kind of the same. Then the Doom 3 weapons all have their own distinct sound to them. Both are wonderful games though.

DOOM 3's sounds were clearly aiming more for realism in their punch and delivery. Given the pace you travel in DOOM 3, it makes sense they'd make such straightforward sounds. They didn't need to waste so much time in making the guns sound as over-the-top as they did in the original DOOM games of the 90's since you weren't moving near as quickly. In DOOM 2016 (and I assume this goes for Eternal as well), the guns went back to sounding over-the-top and beefy like they did in the 90's, though they obviously sound superior. This is because DOOM 2016 moves MUCH faster and so they needed each and every one of the guns to sound as powerful as possible.
As for reloading, this is honestly always going to be a controversial topic in FPS games. There's no denying that fire-and-forget physics in shooters is much more fast-paced and blood-pumping, but there's just something so satisfying about spending a gun dry and then having to reload it. This allows the gun to feel more compatible with you as a person. Like you, it has limits and having to reload always reminds you of that. You feel strong, but not invincible. Games like DOOM 2016 on the other hand want you to feel like a god, rip-and-tearing through hordes like they're just cheese.
Both styles serve their purpose well and allow you to feel immersed in their respective worlds. If you want a slower, more moody experience, go for DOOM 3. If you want to vent all your frustrations because your wife/husband or boss pissed you off (or you just really like rip-and-tearing things), play DOOM 2016. For now, though, I'm going to wait and see about Eternal. The game moves fast, yeah, but it's looking like it's going to also be more strategic in HOW you move rather than how fast you can move (the hookshot mechanic is the best example of this so far).

And no, Doom 2016 is far the best Doom in the whole franchise, and Eternal will be even better. You don't like it? Stick with your old games. I would say that Doom (2016) won for it's "No Reload" mechanic, but DOOM 3 also won for their "Satisfying" reload animations.
Plus, in my opinion, DOOM 2016 won for their most robust gunshot sounds.

Many people consider DOOM 2016 to be better than DOOM 3, and for the most part I agree. But if there one thing that DOOM 3 does right, that DOOM 2016 ultimately fails at, and that is the energy weapons.
The Plasma Gun in DOOM 3 has such amazing sound, a very iconic design, and the projectiles it fired actually looked like plasma. The Plasma Gun in DOOM 2016 sounds like a water gun, shoots like a water gun, and the projectiles look like water bubbles.
The BFG-9000 in DOOM 3 is like the energy projected weapon equivalent of an RPG. The BFG-9000 in DOOM 2016 on the other hand, is a dubstep gun. I mean seriously, what the hell is that sound it makes, and why does the explosion look so puny?

My favorite weapon sound in DOOM is the Chaingun with the Mobile Turret upgrade. Hands down one of my favorite weapons in any shooter.

I like the idea of a charging BFG. It's be dope if they made the BFG chargeable in Doom Eternal. One level of charge uses one ammo, instantly kills all low level demons and deals medium damage to everything else. Tier two kills low and medium level demons, uses two ammo and deal high damage to everything else, tier three kill all non boss demons and deals massive damage.
