- There's a growing trend of social media influencers pushing women towards natural birth control methods.
Although the Pill transformed lives when it was first introduced, some people find the side effects of hormonal contraception intolerable.
With many young women struggling to find options that work for them, can fertility apps provide a reliable and healthier alternative?
The BBC's Katie McEvinney investigates the impact.

Audio mixing is terrible
It's unwatchable. It's all over the place.
This video is just a long AD, Made by a woman in big pharma or something
Should have been in Stereo.
Seems like most BBC videos about online trends tend to be a bit off.
@@junjunhahacan't be more stereo than that, bro. it's just bad mixing
Yall did a LOUSY job on the audio. Can hardly hear anyone speaking! 🤨
I wear crocks, it’s a form of birth control.
I cannot hear narration. Mixed too low.
It's panned to one channel (the right one). Basically the editor was most likely listening via speaks instead of headphones.
I wish the education around female reproductive health was better. It really helped me to have got in depth knowledge about it in medschool
You are right❤
I would go to a professional to sort out any issues, thankfully none until now, I don’t take advice from unqualified people.
You might not realise you have them because their subtle but in a lot of cases it even changes what you are sexually attracted too. Just make your man use a condom. Its pretty unlikely you habe no akde affects because it messes around with your hormones.
Consult a professional, that’s what I would say, never believe in advices given by people, never take chances with your health, never rely on such apps ,each and every body type ,intellect, knowledge ,writing, speaking skills are different……
AI's social media fix:
1. Ensure algorithm data is diverse, representative and balanced.
2. Remove bias, counterfactuals and adversarial learning.
3. Use ethical principles and guidelines that are fair, accountable and transparent.
Serous topic but at 1 minute I had to click off the video. What is with the audio??
Come on BBC, are you trying to compete with tiktok with that background music??
Please fix the audio
In the 90’s we had hiv and hep c everywhere so everyone bagged up, how nice for this gen to not have any life destroying diseases
Social media is serving women by sharing stories and offering healthy alternatives. Yes there is bad gen out there but when did people stop being able to discern between that which is good and that which is nonsense? People need to educate themselves, do their research, understand the risks and preventative measures, find respectful partners, RESPECT THEMSELVES, and take responsibility.
You are right👍👍❤
So long as the result is not a lot of unwanted children - and it seems that might be happening.
The music made it very hard to hear clearly.
what's wring with my headphones :o i can't listen to this video, as sometimes sound comes on one headphone channel (one ear) and another ear comes different sound. i.e., my left ear only hears music, my right ear only hears a fain voice. idk what's wrong with my headphones and how to fix it :o
tho tbh other videos are playing sound just fine, it's only this video that doesn't play right.
I came from a big family. It scared me out of having children. I think women have it ruff. Would men take a pill. I would do anything. Be well.
No one wants to take hormones because they think it’s dangerous but smashing in loads of recreational drugs at the weekend and drinking buckets of alc, eating fast food etc….bullcrap
Cant hear anything
Screw the pill, always wear a rubber
I don’t know, my friend was wearing a condom and got hit by a bus, it didn’t protect him.
That’s why you always double wrap.
Too much noise

Audio mix need to be fixed
I was pregnant 5 times, wish I had all 5 kids. I think it’s best not to rely on social media for anything, always consult a professional , I am not a gadget freak I don’t care how these apps work, these gadgets are not like food and water and don’t understand what goes on in your body.
You aborted 5 baby’s

You lack empathy, you aren’t a woman, if a woman you are a man, else won’t ask me such questions. Probably a working person who has no sense of decency or dignity ,is uncultured.
I love children ,I also believe in destiny, what’s yours is certainly yours…..I didn’t have people helping me ,advising me on anything, was and am a wild person ,seek help from my own resources that I believe in my body and nature, and nurture them to increase my qualitative values as a person .

Your body and mind are spiritual beings, they need to be nourished with good ,healthy food and proper, good, productive thoughts.

For your sorts anything goes,Kutch be chalega types, and you go to everywhere to seek solace, a person who talks like You will go to N number of places for physical therapy and spiritual detox…….haha laugh ,feel happy about yourself, don’t speak badly about others, you’ll make some progress you disgruntled person.
Taking care of yourself, is the most important thing in this world for a healthier ,happier and a contented life.
A gentleman always carries a condom.
The sort of hold gadgets have on people is phenomenal, these smart watches ,then these arm band people wear when walking, running or jogging ,so much they want to know about themselves whether it’s accurate or not. It’s not healthy if a gadget has to rule your life and prompt you on your eat time, water time, piss time, shit time, period time, conception time……..I just don’t understand modern ways of living, it’s too unhealthy and lacks quality.People have stopped enjoying simple things wherein a walk in the park to relax,to rejuvenate,to get some fresh air, to feel happy about yourself has turned into a mile counting frenzy .
Taking the pill is modern too. These ain't been around before the 50s.

I don’t support taking birth control pills, I believe in having as many kids you want to, it’s not that you can have a kid every other day. I myself was pregnant five times , although I don’t have five kids. 😊
@@averagezyzzenjoyer5630
I come from a traditional, orthodox and conservative family, parents in my family married off their daughters in their early twenties, so the question of such things don’t arise.
Well, that was just about the most inaccurate representation of smart watches I have ever read. You should try writing without using hyperbole or made-up facts.
I hate the stereo sound
Why is the music so loud, y’all need to redo this
so who're downloading that app now!?
Wouldn’t be surprised. The overlords have got to reverse this declining birth rate somehow.
i use period tracking + the sponge now, its working just fine to avoid pregnancy. also always have pIan b on hand, as weII as "a pIan b" if yacatch my drift
Use a rubber that stuff is poison
Contraception has never been more important. Today’s young people should most definitely not be having babies.
don't do that with audio mixing anymore. loud music on the left, low voice on the right, this is the worst stereo mixing I've ever heard
Hormone Free Birth Control options: iud, condoms, abstinence and abortion (the nuclear option) last resort.
This must be a British thing. In Finland people have brains, doctors and rely more on doctors than TikTok. lt's like the UK is regressing on all fronts. It's scary really. Thank God we don't have them in EU anymore.
What lol
Make sure to get the 4th booster recommended by the EU
Bruh, the very first thing humans do when they wake up is check the phones. How can it be difficult to use Natural Cycles everyday...Nevertheless, women need to be more open about their cycles/pms with their partners. Even about their vagina's, how the cervix moves up & down (which indicates time of periods)
Of course it is. In the manpower shortage the policies of the UN commission on population control is not longer relevant and so.....abortion is no longer a Federal issue in the USA, states outlaw quasi-abortion related medications. The new realization is the USA, Russia, China don't have enough people. The USA is said it wishes to double its population as quickly as possible....so its time to copulate and procreate and rinse, then repeat.
I have PCOS
Dr. Prescribed Birth control pill
It's not asmr to be binaural. Horrible.
I have friends that have successfully used natural birth control all of their adult lives before & after marriage. Natural birth control does not work for everyone. If you have irregular periods or other issues, this method may fail you. I tried it & got pregnant. It was a surprise, but my husband & I cherished our unexpected baby. My failure was a result of irregular periods due to endometriosis.
Hardly control then more like lotto.
No it’s wasn’t your failure, it was your man who failed to hold the sperm in lol
Well I'm certain if it's pushing anyone away it's women.
I get my periods every 29 days. Thankfully!
Its an irritating topic. I like the sponge idea. Professional advice needs personal advocacy. None of medical advice i received on female health were really correct and you only find out later
😳
😂 no it isnt which explains the falling birthrate.
this is why bbc advertises nothing phones
My left ear enjoyed thia
Starting contraception at 12 yrs
Many pre-teens start taking The Pill because of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which starts becoming a problem right as girls get their period.
I only watched one video saying that doctors should be transparent about the side effects of birth control and the damage it does.
My expectation is this is simply natural since birth control messes with your mood and brain.
Who`s bangin Amelia and why?:))
Giving birth it's not mans punishment from God ,why u men creature has if it's ur pain
A simple solution - get married and have a family which is part of a healthy society like in the town of Chillingbourne.
Even married couples want to control their fertility. Most couples don't want a huge family or one that they can't afford.
Yes and have multiple kids despite not being able to afford a house. Solid plan.
Not everyone wants to get married and have a family. Everyone should learn to control their fertility no matter what kind of life they lead.
Seriously what’s this thinking?! So you believe marriage is just popping children? They are not chickens they are human beings. Married couple want to live and have a protected sexual marriage life. Birth control is not about sexuality as well many women who suffer terrible period, acne and other issue take it. You need better education and better mentality. Not everyone wants to have children right away or even have big family like you stated. I wonder where are you living are you not aware about the economy situation and how finance work or it’s easy to spill sentences like this instead of thinking other ways.

As a guy I can say something I want even more than male birth control that nobody is even bothering trying to figure out is LEGAL ANABOLIC STEROIDS so that I can get as buff as Arnold Cchwarzenegger without worrying about my heart exploding.
But then your dick wouldn't work. 😂
After I was prescribed birth control pills in the UK as an international student, I was diagnosed with a brain micro tumor. The answer is as simple as that. No one was held accountable. Thanks.
We do need a lot more children. Just saying.
Young people are less interested in kids because life has just become too damn expensive.
The overlords have probably realised that the only way to get birth rates up is to try and influence them on social media, pushing a narrative that birth control is bad
