- www.tcgplayer.... There hasn't been a deck like this since Nexus of Fate arrived in Standard. Bant Scapeshift is obnoxiously over-powering and broken. Consistent and annoying. I'm calling it now. Incoming ban! With 4 of the top 8 Standard decks from Grand Prix Denver being Bant Scapeshift, a ban is almost a sure thing.

Nothing will get banned, scapeshift is out of standard in september and the deck will lose half of it's potential

7 is the lucky number. 5 different lands and two field of the dead equals 10 2/2 zombies as early as turn 4 with the right draw.
You need 7 different lands so you'd need a field or multiple and 6 other lands

There’s a Golgari casualties of war deck going around that may be a good match for this deck
I like to run this land with Risen Reef and Yarok. Because doubling the land triggers.
I have to say WOW! I just broke down and crafted my first cards. I don’t play MTG very well, but this partial deck I used was absotutely amazing. They couldn’t handle 40 zombies. Bravo!
Thought I'd try it out and I'm not a great player. Just sat down and did 4-0 before dinner. Scary deck.

As others have said, Scapeshift is what makes this deck busted and it's rotating in a couple months so we won't see any bans. It's gonna be a sucky Standard season.
I don't think WOTC cares about rotation time. If a deck is checking all the tabs for a bannable card, there is no doubt they'll put some attention to it.
I still play this deck with my monthly magic group. Modified it slightly for our group game. Purphoros, God of the forge was added with red guildgates
What about fitting Yarok, the Desecrated with that combo? Just wondering if you modify the deck to sneak him in there if that would go bonkers.
Just fought someone that's using your deck. I demolished them with a calvacade deck. They got 17 zombies out by the end, but my chanda spitfire and light up the stage finished them off quickly. This is a pretty scary combo, though.
What if you chucked in a Divine Visitation?
I feel like divine visitation is too cute, it seems like a win more card that just slows the deck

Everyone is talking about the Rotation, but what happens to your collection during a Rotation in Arena? Most of my collection is from Dominaria when I first started playing Arena last year.
I think that's why they are trying to get brawl and pauper up and running so quickly. Your cards will rotate just like paper but I'm sure you'll be able to use them in the other formats available
They are adding a "Historic" format, which is similar to Modern. It will be Ixalan block and onward, similar to how Modern is 8th Edition and onward.

Teferi is the biggest problem with these decks. It generates tempo while shutting off interaction with a deck that's already pretty hard to interact with. The particular valid issue with this deck's win con is that he relies on land which is the hardest permanent type to interact with in standard unless you're Golgari. It's also versatile. You turn off the lands, you're still eating a giant Krasis or two. The ramp game is really strong right now, so having a combo deck that can double as ramp is particularly good.
I'd tend to agree overall. It's vulnerable to unmoored ego, which can be sideboarded in the #1 esper midrange deck. However, it's power level is absurd.

Yeah, but it's one specific deck. I play RDW, and this decks wins most of the time. Tired to see it at 6-7 wins all the time, it's just unfair
Why would you plus teferi and then not scapeshift end of the oppoment’s turn?
Due to rotation, probably Field of the Dead if there's something else that is out there for such combo. But most likely no ban at all. Unless... can they emergency ban like you mentioned? Then, of course they'd ban Scapeshift.
Settle the wreckage after they Scapeshift into a cleansing nova leaves opponent with no land. Have done this several times. It's quite funny when they rage quit.:)
Yeah, it's easy deck to defeat as control player.
@Stefan Eisler they take all the lands out with settle to put on the field then you just board wipe and they ahve no more to search for. I also keep amulet of safekeeping sideboarded for token decks/mill
The deck only runs 5 Basics it's not the big of a deal

@Stefan Eisler Their deck works purely on fetching more land. Once they cast scapeshift once they will lose to 1-2 board wipes.
Their whole win conditions is lands. Either destroy zombie generating lands or just let them fetch all of the lands in their deck.
Wotc will always ban the most important card of a combo deck... no evolving wilds here so next best choice is tranquil cove. I called it here

You can sac all the way down to your dead lands get back all your cards when they hit the field it will trigger all at the same time and you'd make way more zombies

Nah but they might have to ban Field, it's a powerful deck that will just keep getting more ramp with every set. Sure, it loses Shift and Grow with rotation, but with Teferi +1ing ramp out it won't be a big deal. Could even run Golos to make sure you get those Fields if you need, but the deck doesn't even have to run him.

William DeSade field won’t get banned if anything it’s Teferi that makes this deck crazy. Shapeshift Valakut was a thing and wasn’t as busted because it wasn’t at instant speed
Definitely sideboard Unmoored Ego specifically for this deck. Can take out all those field of the dead, maybe throw in some field of ruin to destroy any on the field, assassin's trophy can take it out too, along with some expensive land destruction in m20. Honestly, there's enough answers that WOTC might not ban anything.

2. Scapeshift is rotating in less than 2 months, so nothing will be banned most likely.

I have to respectfully disagree with the "toxic" comment. The deck is very good but it is far from broken. I agree it doesnt help that standard has very little ways to interact with the deck. IMO this deck is one of the best in standard right now but it is far from broken. but hey love the videos keep up the great work!!

They did reprint tectonic rift so that’s an answer but it’s 4 cost. Kind of pricey when dealing with that garb

How about restricting Field of the dead?
I played against a version of this that used Golos, Omniscience, Drawn from Dreams, and Mastermind's Acquisition to get Samut from the Sideboard and give haste to all of those tokens from Field of the Dead.
I only think heavy control builds can counter this. Yes specific cards can reign fields of the dead in, but what do you do when you don't hit your blood sun, alpine moon, or unmoored ego before scapeshift hits? You have to have answers to the zombies or prevent resolution. You have to build around the deck, or build to prevent most plays. Unfortunate, but if you aren't building around field of the dead, you will lose to it.
I run grixis control and I have alpine moon and unmoored ego in sideboard and I have no problem against this deck.
yo i saw someone talking about blowing up tokens with blast zone.. how would that be done??
I believe that would be possible if you managed to take the charge counters away from it, with a card like Vampire Hexmage, but in Standard
You would need something to remove the counter from like soul diviner(War of the Spark) and then activate blast zone
I built a golgari land destruction deck a while ago that I’m confident would have a good match up against this, maybe with a bit of tweaking but I’d be confident of taking the win.
I'd like to use a Landfall ability with Scapeshify, though, ha. Like if Adomination Angel perhaps to bounce creatures that ramp lands.
Unmoored Ego destroys the deck. Cry of the Carnarium destroys all zombies. Two cards that people don't play.
Not main but cry and unmoored are both in my sideboard
Blood Sun cycles and is an Instant win against this deck, and as a cheap sideboard tool alpine moon exists.
Lots of people play Cry of the Carnarium but the zombie tokens will keep coming out and you can't hold them off forever. Also, Ashiok, Dream Render can shut down scapeshift

Using a deck in the play queue does not show how busted it is. Also for the love of god please use Teferi's ability to cast scapeshift at their end step. Also Also, a game is not a match.

Decks can adapt to it. Massacre girl kills it, time wipe, blood moon, etcetera. Best of one would be an issue but you can sideboard for traditional.
Tatyova Benethic Druid is a good draw engine while it stays on board.

Just crushed this deck with vamps at last nights tournament and don’t have any problem against it on arena. And side boards blow this deck out. Don’t see this getting banned.

Blood Sun, Alpine Moon, Unmoored Ego, Field of ruin are all ways to deal with this deck
Tbh as soon as scapeshift rotates out this deck will lose a lot of gas, getting one or two zombies a turn won’t really be a problem for green decks to overrun or control decks to deal with. The main problem is Teferi allowing Scapeshift to be cast at the end of the opponents turn and stopping them from Cleansing. It’s really not Field of the Dead that’s oppressive, it’s Scapeshift combined with Teferi. If you can’t suddenly summon up a hoard of zombies your opponent has no say in countering yeah it’s oppressive but without that it’s just like dealing with any other deck. If Field of Dead is really the problem we’ll be seeing a lot more cards like Field of Ruin and Assassin Trophy and the like that can deal with FotD if need be but don’t have to target just lands and not be dead draws in matchups not against FotD. I think the fact that it’s called Bant Scapeshift and not Bant Field of the Dead says a lot.
it really doesn't matter what card they do ban because they are about to leave standard. With that being said the most logical card to be banned would be one that that's still going to be there after certain cards do leave like field of the dead.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve played, but, wasn’t there a named “chasm” or “moat” that prevented creatures that attack from reaching you? Seems like a natural counter to this deck
In modern or Legacy probably this is standard so unless they reprint it its not legal.
It’s going to cycle soon, no reason to ban this when nexus dodged a ban.
When I went to my LGS, 3 people were playing this deck. I thought why are they playing that jank. Then when they played me I'm like. Thank god I had a counter for that shapeshift or I'd be dead. It's a fun deck and very powerful but I think the meta will change to counter it.
Exactly, it is a super good deck but now that it is known it won't be broken like it was at the GP

scapeshift is also kinda broken with omnath? 7+ draws and 7+ counters. evolution sage? proliferate 7+times. scapeshift in general is good for thinning you deck, and landfall. And it is banned this september. its not like they are adding these in a set together.
How do you not know who Lsv and the format is all ready adapting with unmoored ergo and ashiok

Alpine Moon gets taken care of by Teferi, Prison Realm, DoD... do you think it even matters if you run 4 copies?

my opponent played 2 of them with Karn, then i destroyed both with Blast Zone
Pfff everytime I met this deck in ladder. I defeated it easily with my control deck. Just wrath all of the zombies. Opponent usually ends up running out of lands before I run out of wraths.

yesterday, i had an oponent with this deck and i get them to 1 lifepoint. he comes with instant 12 x 2/2 zombies and hit me down... the good is, there are less of this deck at platin+ .

Bant is the name of the White, Blue , Green decks.
Played against this with my elemental tribal and my opponent managed to get 24 zombies out but i killed him afterwards with a lightning stormkin i drew on. i did NOT know this was a meta standard deck until i seen it happen lol.
Standard wasteland reprint in throne? I watched to see if you were the guy I lost to playing this earlier ....I was boros aggro burn bright and eliminated two waves, but the third he got me
So many people saying it wont get banned cause of rotation. I'm not sure Wizards will allow, we can all agree, "broken" deck like this to continue even that long. Because of this I plan to take a break from ranked for a few months cause there is no way I'm spending wildcards to fight it and I'm sure there is a large majority of players doing the same thing. That's not good for the game.
The meta will change to counter this deck, the deck will still be good/great but shouldn't be super OP like it is now

its quite a niche enchantment. Someone else suggested land destruction, but thats also quite niche. you can make a deck which counters that one, but probably doesnt beat anything else

Field of the Dead will not be banned, once rotation hits the decks won't be as good, nothing in standard needs to be banned

Don't know the problem you have ... it's odd but haven't lost vs scapeshift the last 10 matches ... maybe think about an aggro deck and no problem ...
Seems like a normal magic deck to me, its like valakut + primeval titan in standard, rotation will reduce the Success...

Rotation in two months, and when war came put literally 9 put of 10 decks at the first tables were esper control, and honestly if baby tef didnt get the hammer I doubt field will when scapeshift is what makes the card playable. Once shift is gone how does this deck survive rotation?
Love how Magic allows for infinite possibility, and people come up with decks like this...no fun playing against it or with it after a while...but still super cool to see
Its not that broken. Boros Feather and RDW have a fair chance against it....Anyways on Standard, it will be rotating out very soon. there is no replacement for spaceshift.

You play the deck and don't know how it works... Why are you play it then? You can sack all lands that aren't field of the dead and create more tokens than you do
Nothing will be banned in the deck, simply because rotation is in 3 months.

Wrong they also lose out on the grow from ashes. Also this deck wouldn't be anything if people were expecting it. There are plenty of hate cards for cards like field of the dead. Alpine mountain and ashiok kill this deck.

I didn't put it together until after. LSV is godly at brewing decks focusing on a specific strategy. Once it comes together the deck wrecks competition.
Unmoored Ego will allow you to name Field Of The Dead removing them all from the game or you can run Blood Sun in the side board
Ashiok's passive shuts down Scapeshift as well.

Im playing unmoored ego, assasins trophy and casualties of war mainly for this deck. Maybe i should add a couple of field of ruin into the side along with the Ego.
Run Cry of carnarium too, just in case
