Awww seeing this video brings back happy memories of cursing my Wooden block in a clamp as I file. Good handy pre-revision help video for people coming in at level 2 👍🏻

I would add one further check - before offering up the lid and turning the buckle, ensure cables inside the trunking are well inside the trunking and are not liable to be trapped by the pin of the turnbuckle. Been there, done that, learnt my lesson!

Hi. We sure mention that during our lessons and we pick up any issues during the insulation resistance testing. Thanks for commenting and watching GSH Electrical 👍.

I work principally with domestic installations and didn't train at college so have never used steel trunking; forgive me if I'm being ignorant but you mention in closing that the fitting is plastic; does this mean that the cables have to be secured within to prevent collapse in the event of a fire? How does this change to the regs affect teaching; do metal saddles even exist for plastic conduit and are you using anything fireproof to replace a proportion of the clips on T&E?

David Gill hi there, as someone who has studied at this college, this is an over view video for an assessed fabrication piece set by the exam board, to help students preview prior to step by step fabricating in the work shop. Can still remember this with the filing part being my menace. But they do also get us to secure fixing with metal clips etc in various jobs.
As for saddles, go to RS and search pro cable clip screw steel saddle clamp am sure these are other brands, that just one I know off the top of my head on a job I did recently.

Hi. We are still under the 17 Edition and I recorded it 5 months ago. Yes moving forward we will use a metal version so another video to follow later next year. Thanks for commenting and watching GSH Electrical

Hi I have added this to the description...
I shot this video in March 2018 moving forward under the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations the lid fitting may now benefit from being non combustible (metal). Remember it’s trying to prevent premature collapsing of the wiring system so the fixing shown in the video could possibly still be used...!
