    Glad Nikon understands that not all in photography and videography is about corner to corner sharpness. Releasing this lens is a brilliant move in my opinion. The lower price point makes artistic work possible for more people. For the first time in a long while I consider buying brand new lenses to replace my vintage glass.

      Was just comparing the samples at the 7:08 mark to my old Contax 50mm f/1.4 Planar CY I've used with my old Z6 II, field of view aside, the rendering is damn near spot on. Nikon really needs to release an 85mm f/1.4 Z in this same family. This makes me even more jazzed about the Nikon 50/1.4 Z.

    Fantastic review, there are so many big RUclipsrs who don’t review lenses properly anymore. I think Nikon missed an opportunity, they should’ve made the lens better and pleased a lot more people, just imagine if it was a 1.4 S.

      I will not buy the Nikon 35mm f1.4 cheap plastic lens and I completely agree with you that a professional S version would have made a lot of people happy. Now I’m actually considering getting the F version and using the FTZ adapter. I think Nikon has it backwards. They did the same thing with the 50mm. The 50mm f1.8 is the S version while the 50mm f1.4 is the cheaper version. Meanwhile the 50mm f1.2 is as big as a torpedo that more than likely after the honeymoon phase is over you won’t be taking it out of the house

    • @craigjohnchronicles2504

      Nikon has a 35mm f/1.2 S in their roadmap. This would be redundancy, and Nikon hates cannibalizing itself.

    Nice honest review, refreshing! Other than for the 20-S or 85-S, which I don't currently own, I rarely have to remove my 24-70F4S for the Nikon primes. We need a few more fast artsy options with less compromise! I don't care about focus breathing for stills. They could make a dedicated RED certified lens for video as well. Cheers.

    I was super unimpressed with the 35 F1.8s, which was disappointing coming from F-Mount and loving 35mm framing. Happy to pick up this new artistic 35 1.4. Price was great, for me. Re no manual switch, can't you just use full time focus ring override, then back button AF to get AF back? I could be wrong.

    This looks very similar to the issue I had when I purchased a second hand 50mm 1.4G, my 50mm 1.8G was much sharper and the 50mm 1.4G needed to be stoped at F2.8 or so to be acceptable…this had nothing to do with fine tuning…I directly sold it again.
    On the other hand there is no better lens than the Sigma 40mm 1.4 or 50mm 1.4 which are beasts of sharpness and global IQ

    • @davision-en

    • @davision-en
      @davision-en  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah but that with the 8MP is not True :) most Cameras have higher resolution Sensors and use the Resolution to create a better looking 4K Video. Like I show here in the Video, you see a clear advantage from the 35/1.8 Lens. But maybe that sharpness is not what the Moste People are Looking for.

I have almost all the S-lenses for the Z mount for my Z8 and Zf - only on the short end I'm lacking lenses. I recently bought a Leica Q3 with its 28mm fixed prime, and given what I've learned - not the least by your contribution - my decisions were confirmed: On the short end I'll mainly shoot with the Leica Q3 in the future which complements my Nikon gear, which is for middle to longer ranges, sport, wildlife, etc. Street on the other hand will be the domain of Leica where it reigns supreme. Many thanks again for confirming my strategic choices. :-)

      Depends on what you find important. I had this lens and sold it. It was not weather sealed, much bigger with the FTZ adapter, focused loudly and slowly. In Canada, it's a hard winter 8 months of the year, making the sigma kind of a pain in the ass to manage moisture with. Sigma35 + FTZ is about 900 grams; 35 1.4z is 415g -- 46%, making the sigma 2.2x heavier.
      Finally, if you want to film with it, you only get 1 or 2 stops of IBIS on third party lenses vs 5 with native. Big difference.
