I liked the “overall performance” for gaming you gave. It really narrows down what works best for people and budgets. Looks like 7900x 13900k and 7950x comes down to productivity and if your using it as a workstation.

Figure paired with a 4090 I'd take a 8-15FPS avg hit now but for later whatever end of life 2025 CPU AM5 socket CPU comes out should be better than the end of life LGA1700 socket. AM5 may still not be the top of the line later in 2025 but it beats needing a new CPU AND Motherboard at the same time.

I doubt that they will do the same for X3D since the reason they give away the rams is because of the low sales number in 7000 series which isn't going to be the case for X3D.

That being said, I think it's crazy that a 8C/16T 7700X is almost as fast as a 16C/32T 7950X in Civ6. I hope Civ7 will be a lot better at parallelizing the game.

Also, I haven't noticed any diminised cooling aspects by raising the one fan up just a little. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 for a few hours today my CPU temp stayed around 55-60 deg C. hey there Paul. I know this is an old video.. but Thank you for making it. I've got a 12900K that's been nothing but trouble. I'm sending it back to Intel for them to sort out with either a repair or replacement. I get watchdog errors randomly and I've swapped everything out of this computer but the CPU. That's the one consistent part of the whole saga. Anyway, with the 13700K sitting at $345 today at best buy, I opted to pick that up and just drop it in my PC. I have a 7700x system that I could swap to but I don't want to lose intel quicksync for video work. So that's the dilemma, and I will have the next round of the story tomorrow as I pick up the CPU and get it swapped out.. but my other question is simply this. Power efficiency. Have you compared power efficiency under load vs overall power efficiency? While it's clear that AMD is more efficient under a full workload scenario, what about the rest of the time? Would it make sense to look at the bigger picture? How many users run all core maxed out 100% of the time? Maybe this is something that you've already addressed, as I know several other creators have found intel to hold its own, if not exceed AMD, in overall "real world" day-to-day efficiency. Anyway, if you get the opportunity to take a look, I'd be very interested in your opinions. Now I am waiting for my 13700K to see if that solves all my PC problems.
    Cheers
    Rick

I'm fortunate enough to have a Microcenter near me, so I was able to get a motherboard (B650E-F, DDR5, 7900X) - $600. It is the same or cheaper than the 13600k combo (but with better performance from the AMD 7 series). AMD got the message.

I am going to micro center next week and I am specifically going to be looking to see what combos they have in stock when I go. I was currently looking at the 7700x deal because its $500 or the 7600x one for $400

@@happydr_ awesome! I would look at the motherboard for the 7700x deal, to make sure it has everything you will need. The one that comes with 7900x deal is pretty much x670 except for a couple m.2 slots. That's why jumped on that deal.

Hey Paul, I'd like to see you expand your game benchmarks by adding games from a couple different engines. I've seen some reviewers use CS:GO (Source) and some others use Rainbow 6 Siege (same engine as Assassins Creed.) I'd REALLY like to see Unity get some more representation too.

Would misrepresent newer gen cards though. My 1080ti got more fps at max settings 1440p in CSGO than my 3080 does. Because it's a directX9 title.
Adding in these games would make older cards look better than they are, and newer cards look worse than they are

@@aightm8 I mean, I only gave it as an example and I've seen it mostly used in CPU benchmarking. He could use Apex Legends for Source because it's getting DX12 support, but I'm not sure if they have a good benchmark built in...

If you have a Microcenter near you the DDR5-6000 / AMD 7900x combo deals effectively prices the 7900x at aroun $350 making it the best configuration performance/price wise by a wide margin.

The best video comparing AMD 5000 and 7000 vs Intel 12th and 13th gen in both gaming and production tasks!
