- Laurence Fox, the actor turned politician, has lost a High Court libel battle with two people he falsely referred to as paedophiles on social media.
Fox was sued by Simon Blake, a gay rights activist and former Stonewall trustee, and Crystal, a former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, after he called them both paedophiles on Twitter/X in October 2020 following a row over a decision by Sainsbury’s to mark Black History Month.
The Reclaim Party founder countersued the two men and the broadcaster Nicola Thorp over earlier tweets accusing him of racism.
However, Mrs Justice Collins Rice dismissed Fox’s counterclaims and ruled in favour of Blake and Crystal, whose real name is Colin Seymour.

@@lifesagamesobeawinner Jury trials in defamation cases were done away with a long time ago, just like civil legal aid. This was done to save money, and no one complained then. Increasingly, the law is becoming a lottery because judges are able to indulge their own idiosyncratic beliefs without a jury acting as a break, see Ponting and so on. Be that as it may, please read the judgment before commenting. The judgment is sound in law, and I am afraid, Fox is going bankrupt at this rate, if he appeals unsuccessfully. I find the fellow irritating, lacking in education, and I surmise he has mental health issues.

@HerraTulitikku yes and that tells me how much of a joke British justice is. Even the home Secretary said our justice system is broken just look at Rotherham and Rochdale to see how useless and two tiered they are. You've a fool if you believe it's fair.
As far as I can see, all the Court decided today is that some people can throw slurs and get away with it, but others can't.
Also, I wonder why a jury was not employed to decide the issue? Did Fox waive his right to a jury trial?

As I understand it they baselessly called him that first. He then said what he said simply to provide an example of why you shouldn’t/what it feels like to throw baseless accusations around.
Imagine someone called you something you’re not, so you decide to call them something they’re not, but the judge rules that while they can do that to you, you can’t do that to them. It’s ridiculous.
A racist is someone who doesn’t like or has distain for other ethnicities. He said in court he doesn’t like black people which means he discriminates against all black people because they are black. He’s racist

@@michaelsmith-re2ge Exactly, it’s a nonsense and he has complete grounds for appeal. The judge has tried to claim that if you oppose high levels of immigration and you oppose a grotesque cultural sickness and people call you names because of it they’re justified. Fox’s opinions on these things are not extreme in any way and any reasonable person should be able to see that you can’t just decide otherwise.

You’ve not understood it very well have you. He is saying we all know what a racist is. The word comes with connotations that somone is actively hateful, vile t or nasty to people, solely based on the colour of their skin. If these terms were defined in law, he would not have been able to have been labelled a racist, for thinking it’s a bad idea to have hundreds of thousands of people entering our country stretching the economy to breaking point. That does not make somone a racist. If the terms were defined more clearly in law, as they should be, he would have won his case. As he should have. The legal system is a joke.
