Omg! When my husband and I had to go clean out my father's house after we lost him, we stopped and stayed at the Lowe House, rather than some stupid chain, just because it looked interesting and I hate chains. It was off-season, late at night, and so, so quiet. The woman working the desk came down and treated us like our grandmother. She gave us this absolutely gigantic suite for a tiny amount of money and let us take our hound dog, too. The hotel was quiet at that time because so few people were traveling, so we just wandered the whole place with her blessing, toured the art gallery, and just had the best time in the midst of one of the worst times of my life. I would go back in a heartbeat, but if I had my druthers, I would love to go in the offseason because that was amazing. We were treated so warmly, and the hotel is such a slice of the past. It has a presence.
Wonderful comment. I have a feeling both of you and the clerk were meant to be there at that time. Thanks for posting your experience and condolences on the loss of your father. (Just lost mine two months short of what would have been his 100th birthday.)
Window openings above the doors are ‘transoms’. Us old people remember that stuff. Had to crawl thru one when stationed in San Diego (1971) when we locked our keys in our apartment. Fortunately the transom was open.
Heads up: they’ve been booked for many months now, so anyone wanting accommodations for the Mothman Fest is out of luck. As are ALL Airbnbs near PP. We made our reservations months ago and the closest place we could find was in Charleston, so we’ll be driving up that Saturday. Will y’all be there?
Hey ya'll , I don't how ya'll are able to sniff out these wonderful places , but am glad you do, .You two are Gods gift to me and I pray He blesses ya'll exceedingly , abundantly above all you could ask or thank. love ya'll Mike
Wouldn't you just love to stay in one of the haunted rooms, sit up at night and have a conversation with one or more ghosts to find out why they're still there? That is such a magnificent old hotel, so well kept & just a special place. I love old buildings like this & hearing about their history. Another good one y'all! Stay safe & sending blessings from VA!
Takes a whole new meaning to “if these walls could talk” doesn’t it? Those could be some interesting conversations! This hotel is so well kept and cared for! Thank you, Debbie! We appreciate you so much! - Melody
I am so happy that you decided to return to Pt. Pleasant. A few year ago, while I was visiting Tu-Endie-Wei Park, evening was drawing near so I decided that I might stay at the Lowe Hotel. As one would have it, something came up and I had to travel on to Cross Lanes where I spent the night. I was so disappointed that I was unable to stay at the Lowe Hotel due to its awesome history. I am not too much interested in ghosts. Thank you for the awesome video. September 1st I was traveling in northern WV. Take care sweet people.
Well, I've a scary personal story pertaining to the Lowe Hotel... I was 6yo, had just started 1st grade. My father, after returning from the South Pacific Campaign of WWII in 1945 started working as a Class A Transmission Lineman for Appalachian Power Company (originally in Bluefield, WV, then transferred to Charleston, WV in 1956) and their crew was building towers and stringing Transmission Lines from Apple Grove, WV to the APCO Phillip Sporns Coal Fired Hyro Power Plant along Ohio River. Their crew stayed at the Lowe when working in that area. Dad had crossed the Silver Bridge about 1.5 hours before the collapse. After picking up his suitcase at the Lowe Hotel, he started back toward home in Saint Albans from Point Pleasant in the Company Dodge Powerwagon. I was watching our old black and white TV, while mom was fixing supper, expecting dad to get home around 6-7pm. WCHS TV channel 8 news came on with a special report about the Silver Bridge collapse and mom and I were VERY concerned...about 10 minutes later we saw dad's truck pulling in the upper driveway of our home. Talking about a prays being answered 🙏😌 The West Side Fire Department I joined 11 years later (1/2 mile from our home) was called from Saint Albans to Point Pleasant to assist in searching for survivors and dead bodies, since our department had a old WWII Duk (the boat w/4 wheels and drive train)that could help. That was a scary night in our home!!
Oh wow! Thank God for answered prayers and close calls that are nothing more. Thank you for sharing! I can only imagine the fear and later relief you and your mom felt! - Melody
For a little boy and his mother, in the days before cell phones, that had to have been a frightening experience. So many lives were changed that night. I'm sure every time you hear Point Pleasant mentioned the memories of that evening come to mind. Glad your Dad made it home safely.
I REALLY enjoyed this one! I've been fascinated with the Lowe Hotel & the surrounding area ever since seeing Dan Bell's video a few years ago. Thank you for showing so much of the inside of this beautiful, historic, & SP👀KY hotel! I hope to one day stay there myself...👻❤👀😜😳
I have been seeing a lot of Point Pleasant videos lately. Documentaries about the history of Point Pleasant and what happened with the "Mothman" and different times it was said to be seen and bad things happening during the time of those sightings.
Hey, we have a Point Pleasant here in NJ. It's on the coast up in Monmouth County. I've never been there. When you were speaking at the beginning of this video your audio level was lower than usual. At 13:23 I saw the board game, Candyland on the table. We had that when we were kids. I don't believe in any of that ghost stuff, but I know it's a lot of fun to think about. I love that place. I wish I were near it. I used to work for a historic hotel, but it was a lot different than that. Our hotel is a resort with two golf courses. The oldest section was built 1912-14 and it was added onto three times. Unfortunately in the winter of 2018-19 the new owners and general manager had most of the interior completely modernized, destroying its historic integrity and its "homeyness". That caused a lot of long time guests to stop going there. On the outside it looks nice, but the inside is just like any modern hotel anywhere. There's no reason to visit it if you aren't staying there. It's a terrible shame.
Very interesting to watch and I'll be going to the festival this year so had no hopes of being able to view the inside of it with all the crowds. The building reminds me a lot of a vintage old hotel in White River Junction VT called the Coolidge. Very similar look and vibes to it.
I stayed in a old hotel in Hudson NY. St.Charles Hotel. They had early pictures of this place throughout the dining area. There was a old bar downstairs they were not using at the time . It was a small exercise room and they had a continental breakfast in the morning. I love that old motel.
The Lowe reminds me of many of the old turn of the last century hotels we have stayed at in the past. Eerie is a good description. I loved that the Lowe has so many period pieces of furniture, the art work, and that rather than modernize everything, they have kept the character of an earlier age. Wonderful video, Shane and Melody,
I've been in Point Pleasant and attended the Moth Man Festival. Such an amazing weekend. But I had never been inside the Lowe Hotel. I had no idea that it was so incredible! That should be a tourist attraction all by itself. I can't imagine what it would be like to be the desk clerk late at night when everything's quiet at the Lowe Hotel! That whole area is so full of interesting things to do and there's a lot of country music talent that is like the best kept secret around too. Thanks so much once more for bringing us along on your adventures. This was one time when I could say: "Oh yeah! I remember that!" Please keep them coming. 🙂
I stayed at Lowe’s last September. The festival was cancelled last year but I went anyway, enjoyed it very much. Ruth, the woman who runs the hotel, was very nice and told me a lot of local history. I stayed in room 327, the room you walked through. On a previous trip, I met Mrs. Harris, the lady who ran Harris’ Steakhouse. That was in September 2016, she died in December. I’ll definitely go back.
Hey y'all I'm from Point and lived here most of my life but that's the first time I ever saw the Lowe Hotel inside. If you visit again , the new river museum should be open. ( I'm so excited. 😉) Anyway your channel is far much better than the others, especially that Yankee from the south 😆. Be safe and keep on exploring for us all ....
Stayed there Dec 13th 2022, shot a video with my drone where the bridge once was. Stayed 2nd floor across from reading/sitting room. Charged my car in Gallipolis before they went crazy on the pricing to do so. Hear the Hotel closed down.
Awesome video! I may have been in town the same time as you guys. I remember the other videos came out right after I got back from a trip there. I was planning on doing a video like this next time I go up to help out at The Museum. PS Did you like the room keys?
Does this effect your visiting in a negative way, having to record so much? Love discovering new places with you guys I just hope there is some exploring done off camera too!
Here's an idea for a video guys. I know it's a heck of a drive, but you guys should maybe do a tour through the Allegheny Lunatic Asylum up in Weston, WV. Maybe do a night tour if you're brave enough. (I never was) The history of the place alone would keep Melody busy researching for days. Just a thought for Halloween perhaps.
Cool place. You guys mentioned the Silver Bridge, but not what happened to it. I saw an interesting documentary on the disaster a few years ago. Allegedly, people started seeing the Mothman after the collapse
See my personal story about it!! Also the was a Cracked eye beam that snapped with heavy Christmas shopping travelers on both the WV/OH going between Gallipolis, Ohio and Point Pleasant, WV.

I couldn’t leave because I had to sit down and was so sick feeling. I think it was the servant hall.
