  • Commuters faced delays and overcrowding as soaring temperatures on the UK's second hottest day caused chaos on the trains.
    Rail companies say the record-breaking heatwave caused the tracks to buckle, while the police had to intervene at a lido in south London because of overcrowding.
    The record for the hottest ever July day was broken with a temperature of 38.1 degrees celsius recorded in Cambridge
    The previous high for July 36.7C was set at Heathrow in 2015.
    Temperatures were also soaring in Europe with new records being set in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Paris.
    Sky's science correspondent Thomas Moore reports on the impact of the extreme weather which scientists say will only become more common.

    • @Competitive_Antagonist
      @Competitive_Antagonist 5 лет назад

      Even modern houses built don't seem to take into account the summer heat. They seem way too focuses on retaining heat without thinking of the carbon load when people have to have air conditioning on all summer just to feel stable.
      Most southern states in the US seem to have built in air conditioning and they even call it "central air", which is something we're going to need if temperatures keep rising. I have a small portable unit so it's not as good at removing heat as a built in one, plus it's expensive to run, but I just feel suffocated otherwise.
      Thanks for your prayers.

      After reading it seems that heat insulation also prevents heat from entering as well as leaving so it also allows less heat to enter in the summer.
      Though there's still an issue of the heat present. There should be a kind of duel process where it locks in heat during the winter and allows it to leave during the summer. A lot of the heat entering may be the windows, but it costs quite a bit to get them all filmed.

    We wouldn't be here without climate change.
    We had to adapt then,we have to adapt now.

    • @dudev
      @dudev 5 лет назад +2

      It's the rate of change that matters. It won't be easy to adapt billions of people in modern cities compared to millions, in the past. Most major northern cities get their water from snow melt. When it rains more and snows less, inland towns will experience drought. It naturally takes thousands of years for climate to change. CO2 levels have doubled in less than 200 years, a level never reached in the past 1 million years. Soundbites and smarmy comments aren't going to help.
