  • The bike I was most excited to test ride at this year's Touratech Rally was the all new 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro. The Tiger 1200 is the newest adventure bike offering from Triumph and I've wanted to do a Triumph Tiger 1200 test ride and first impressions video since I first saw these sweet new adventure bikes at the 2022 AIM Show in Las Vegas back in February.
Fortunately, Tiger was cool enough to let us do both an on road test ride and an extended Tiger 1200 Rally Pro off road test ride at this year's Touratech Rally. Matt was our awesome guide for this adventure, and he led us on a lengthy street ride through some forest twisties so we could get a great since of the Tiger 1200 on road before taking us on a 20 minute Tiger 1200 off road test ride so we could get a really good feel for how this adventure motorcycle performs when you leave the pavement.
I came away very impressed with the new Tiger 1200. I was afraid it would feel heavy and have way too much power to manage, but I'm happy to report that neither of those things are true. It felt nimble and easy to ride both on and off road and I think anyone trying to decide Triumph Tiger 1200 vs BMW 1250GS would do well to test ride the Tiger before making any decisions.
Overall, my initial 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 review is incredibly favorable and I very much enjoyed this opportunity to test ride the bike both on and off road.

Remember when 900 was labelled a big ass ADV bike? These bikes are cool, and have all the electronic wizardry, but as a 60 year old guy with a grampa bod, I want something I can pick up solo. I would only take this down roads. Gravel is OK, but not double track...
How about a 400# 50hp multi-cylinder spoked 21/18, well suspended bike for less than $10k?

I have a '13 Explorer 1200 & I have been waiting for a review like this. Especially your comparison to the Pan America. I absolutely LOVE my '13, and it is SO basic compared to all the accoutrements of the newer models. Now I think I have to go see if Cascade Moto has one in the showroom to test ride. Great review.

I've owned several tigers, since 1995 model. Very reliable IMHO. I often ride 2-up and long trips, and my TigerSport1050 just isn't comfortable enough, so it's between a Tiger1200 or GS13. Decisions, decisions.

Like this fall going out east to ride BDR which is 800 miles to the start and about the same Home. I love my GS for it versatility look forward to your review of GS .

It was nice meeting you at the rally Ben. I also drove the Rally Pro and found it to be a nice bike. I have a 2021 BMW R1250 GS Adventure so I’m not in the market at this time but I should have ridden this before buying mine. The bike that impressed me the most at the Rally was the HD Pan American. Did you test ride that one?

I've always been a fan of large torquey engines. I remember riding the old Explorer 1200,when I owned a ZRX1200. The engine was awesome but the bike had a very high cg.
I would love to try the new Rally 1200. While it doesn't have the whistle of the old triples, the induction sound is intoxicating. Nice job Ben!
