    I noticed alot of people trivialize missle defense,it's not a trivial capacity it's something America and are allies truly believe in.and with ever increasing capacity to intercept icbms I believe it will have more than enough capability to stop a potential Russian or Chinese strike.are mkv in development that will be the ultimate game changer!

      Our BMD capability is not meant to contain russia, MAD is still the strategy there. For China, I doubt we have enough ABMs to contain, but who knows. Thr BMD network is mostly to protect us from unpredictable rogue or radical nations such as North Korea and Iran

    patriot and thaad is similar in a way that is land base. thaad can take down icbm but those are primary for close range within icbm launch. SM family is on par with S400+ family except that it has been tested to take on ICBM a few times and that show quality. it can also be used to target sea base ship if it need to but primary role is for air defense. its the core of air defense for all range targets.
    hit to kill missile is good but i think it need some big warhead on it. giving that ICBM can always adapted to change with decoy or different shape warhead making it undetected. a giant explosion would take a cluster of decoy and warhead in one swoop all together.

    Hope we upgrade the Hobart class so it can use these babies.
    The sm6 has a great all around capability, and is great value for money.

      But until they put the extra fire control dish on the Hobart class and upgrade to Aegis baseline 9 or 10 they are limited.
      And we did hear future proofing a lot under the current government.
      Plus updated phalanx's.
      Have to one up the tight ass Europeans.

    The SM6 Block VI travels at Mach 3.5. That is a speed of .745 Miles per second. The target missiles they shot down did NOT simulate an attack by China's DF21 or DF26 Missiles. The spokesperson said that "ballistic missiles" were shot down in the tests. What he did NOT say is those missiles did not come from outside the atmosphere which is what The DF26 and DF21 missiles do. It is important to know that China's DF21 and DF26 actually escape the atmosphere enter space and then reenter the atmosphere. Raytheon cannot target the missile while in space and the ceiling of the SM6 Block VI is 110,000 feet. The terminal speed of an inbound DF26 is Mach 26 or 5.54 Miles a second compared with the .745 Miles per second speed of the SM6. From the detection time when the target enters the atmosphere to the intended target at an altitude of 110,000 feet, rounding off miles to 5,000 feet times 5 miles a second around 4.4 seconds for the DF26 warhead to hit it's target. If the defensive missile were launched when the target was detected at 110,000 feet at a rounded off speed of 1 Mile or 5,000 feet a second it would take the SM6 22 seconds to get to 110,000 feet. The SM6 will NOT stop a DF26 attack. Quit kidding yourselves Raytheon. My Father worked for ESL/TRW and Northrup Grumman. You have as much chance of stopping a DF 26 with the SM6 as I do shooting it down with a .22.

      US has the capability to shoot down exo- atmospheric targets using the SM 3 missile. Multiple tests have been done. US can track the missile even in space and shoot it down using SM 3. If the incoming missile is in terminal phase then the SM 6 is used. The SM 6 missile is launched even before the incoming missile re-enters atmosphere. That way it does not have to be as fast as the incoming missile. You really don';t know how missile defense works. There is nothing special about df 21 or df 26

      @@TheChimalhuacan SM 2, 3 and 6 can intercept any Hypersonic Ballistic missiles and supersonic cruise missiles at different stages. S400 is similar to SM 2 and 6 with SPY radar. S500 is similar to American THAAD system. S500 and THAAD are for intercepting ballistic missiles during terminal phase. They are not for shooting down aircrafts. Russia did not have a good anti ballistic missile system until they get S500.

    • @GowthamNatarajanAI
      @GowthamNatarajanAI 3 года назад

      @@TheChimalhuacan 235 is still in development. Even if the missile is developed, russia does not have a good detection system to detect launches far enough away to have a chance of intercepting. 135 is just a nuclear warhead. They are launching a nuke at an incoming missile so that they dont have to hit the missile to defeat it. But the nuke will also cause fallout in russia's own territory. So its not actually a anti-ballistic system.
