It’s rather impossible for Fran and Maxwell to have fooled around while Sarah was still alive. When Fran showed up at their doorstep as a cosmetics girl Max didn’t know who she was. If he did he never would have hired her. Niles knows everything and would have recognized her immediately. Maggie should have asked Niles.
Never underestimate Niles, that man knows EVERYTHING

@@Backup_Plan I really wondered about Maggie the entire series. Apart from being my least favourite character from a humour standpoint lol, if this had been real, we'd all agree that she isn't the sharpest tool in the shed 🙈. Poor Maggie 😅
Interestingly enough, this season(4) was filmed in 1997. Fran Dresher was born in 1957, so she WAS 40 in this episode

Hey, my mom always said that a woman should do after she reached the age of 30 is to start adding the 2 numbers together. So say if you just turned 30 you're now only 3 years old, and if you've just turned 42 then you're only 6 years old, and this way you are always young in your mind. If you act old, then you'll be old.
Like the old song says by Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians, "Enjoy Yourself It's Later Than You Think, The Years Go By More Quickly Than A Wink, So Enjoy Yourself"..
And, proper etiquette says that it's not polite to ask a woman her age.

I’m guessing that she would’ve thought it was somehow a ruse. Technically Maggie showed up at the house after Fran already introduced herself to Mr. Sheffield. The first ones to ACTUALLY see them meet were Brighton and Niles. Probably why they didn’t do this scene with Brighton; that memory plus his skepticism would’ve spotted the BS right away…
I don't know how Maggie would believe a story like that, since she has seen Maxwell get frustrated with Fran over things she has done as a nanny

Twelve!? More like a hundred thousand step process which was conducted by Niles(who did the lions share) and Fran when they realised that Fran and Maxwell need to be with each other.

"Still our nanny even though two of us can drive" :D Yeah, it was a bit ridiculous :D Especially how when Max and Fran got married, Fran even hired a new nanny and she was like "What am I even supposed to do here?" :D
I mean from day one Niles duties as butler would’ve taken care of basic quality of life (getting places, eating, having clothes prepared, etc.) Fran was so special because she was able to cater their needs emotionally. She was the only one in Maggie’s life who treated her teenage milestones and feelings with respect, the only one in Brighton’s who who could keep him in line while still letting him be himself, and basically took over right away as a full mother figure for Gracie thanks to her young age. She made them feel loved and respected and kept Maxwell in check so it stayed that way even when she left the room. Anybody in the house could’ve helped Maggie pick out a dress for a party, but Fran was the only one who knew how important it was to look good in front of the girls in your sophomore year class to a young girl.

Everyone is questioning the logic so let me explain it:
It seems that the story is that as far back Maxwell's honeymoon, he met fran and secretly had an affair that went on throughout the marriage.
After his wife finally died, he hired her as their nanny to make it easier to continue the affair and had her introduce herself so no one would get suspicious how they knew eachother
The hitch in that plan would come in the form of Niles. He's such a yenta and knows everything. He'd have recognised Fran at the door or let slip that he already knew her in some way. Maggie was a bit dense to fall for this story.

Well I have two rebuttals. The first is Niles really doesn't know anything about Mr. Shepfield outside of the house except what he tells him (eg the thing), so he could have just had her on the side and never mentioned it.
My second rebuttal is hypothetically even if he did know about it, how likely is it that the kids would notice. When you really think about it, he didn't really have a relationship to the kids outside of the butler, even cc had a more significant relationship to them. So when your mad and think your father and nanny had an affair, your not going to think, "let me talk to my butler about it"
Why not just date her after his wife's passing?

Still would be silly to think about. It's clear Fran never knew Maxwell prior to the first season. He wouldn't have fired her on the first day if he was still with her.
I keep forgetting how young Fran was compared to max. She had to be in high school or college by the time he was already married with kids 😭😭😭

I always thought this was a weird episode for Maggie - she was smarter than that - to think for one minute that her dad would have messed around on her mother - she's the oldest, meaning she has the most memories of her mother and father together. Brighton and Grace were both much younger than Maggie when Sarah died. She was also there when Maxwell hired Fran, and knew he was just desperate and it was only meant to be short-term, and she stayed because was the only nanny that Brighton got along with. That was just a foolish thing for Maggie to believe in the first place given she knew how Fran got hired and how her dad was before Fran moved in. Fran changed everyone in that house for the better.

I'm so thankful for The Nanny. Such a good memoriea. The hole cast is the ideal to make us laugh, still twenty years later.
I wish I was able to understand the humor of this show as a child. This show is amazing and impressive.

I feel that the outburst from maggie really didn't work, especially since we know how they met through the theme song. If this was from a season 1 episode, it definitely works. But this is a season 4 episode, everything should have been ironed out by now
This episode made me doubt of Maggie's intelligence...
Yeah she somehow forgot that there's a third party living in her house who was around when Max and Sara were together. Come on, Maggie! Just ask Niles.

I would like to know how the honeymoon picture got to the paper. Fran wasn't around during the first marriage. Dollar bet the picture was altered and I wouldn't put pass CC to be the one that did it.

maggie was so illogical to the point where its not even realistic and very clear they just did it for the episode. like there is just no way. the timeline doesn't add up and if this was real any person would've realized that
It’s actually not illogical. Maggie wasn’t there when Maxwell decided to hire Fran so she didn’t know the thought process behind the decision. Plus Fran refused to share her age which would make Maggie think she was older than she really was. It also doesn’t help that the Sheffield men are known philanderers.

Fran looks just like Sandra bullock in the beginning. She remind me of her movie role for miss congeniality. She looks so pretty here.
Fran is a real women and Sandra is transvestite that was a man to transform into a women, although having children or relating to women issues is out of the question.

They just added it to HBO Max as of April 1st 2021. Its FINALLY on a streaming service, you must've missed the announcement. Fran Drescher herself announced it a few days ago.
