@@DefensiveBJJ just watched it, and its impressive but I think the difference is you can't strike the back of the head in MMA. I hate to be the "IN THE STREETS THAT WOULDNT WORK" guy, but I think that argument is valid here.
Interesting. Why wouldn’t good defense work if there were strikes? For someone to strike they would need to create some distance. When there is some separation couldn’t Raul stand up or move to a safer position? If someone stood up to soccer kick him, couldn’t he stand up as well (before he gets kicked)? I doubt someone would stay in turtle to defend soccer kicks. Seems to me like we get in the most trouble when we allow under hooks, 2 on ones, seatbelts, etc (whether there are strikes or not). I doubt that in a fight someone is simply going to throw Raul to the ground and land kicks, punches, knees, and elbows while he stays in the turtle position. He could have stood up in these matches whenever he wanted to.

I am a black belt, but realize there are (and maybe always be) areas to explore in which I am a novice. This system is one such area (although I often use running man when people have my back, and it almost always works). Here is my big question - when doing Priit’s turtle, with the forehead serving as a post, what happens if the top player puts a great amount of force (a knee, a shin, a falling shin, a forearm with some falling body weight behind it ) directly across the back of the turtle player’s neck? And if that is survived (I would think that would be a big “if”) what happens when top player keeps doing that over and over, with more force each time? It appears as though it could lead to a massive neck injury, and that perhaps the Priit turtle position is relying on people being “too nice” to do that ? Any answers are appreciated
Great video and this system coupled with more wrestling looks like it can be absolutely devastating yet timeless and safe. I love it. I am a purple belt in Australia hooked to Priit's work.
Well it was fun to watch. I'd say the way to counter is more wrestling. Turtle is classically how you build a base back up. So wrestlers are more used to dealing with the position. Good defense on this dude's part though. Thanks for the video.
It's good to watch this performance in situation. Bringing a lot on the table. Can we say that within the system, there is definitely an hierarchie for positions, making the turtle one the most important associated with panda, and then the three other ones would follow? At least now, competitors will work on bringing some answers to the table :-)
Play smarter not harder. I love how you are not in a rush of doing things but being very patient and feeling your opponent out and waiting for the opportunity to turn the tables on them. He clearly inverts but I was wondering if he’s switching to a kind of tornado guard? Is there anything on the net covering these sorts of entries from turtle? Fantastic video, loving all this new content on RUclips!
He obviously had a goal of proving a strong defense could keep you safe until he saw the right moment. His leg lock game showed that he has other skills, but that he was trying to prove something. Yes exposing yourself like this when strikes are allowed would be foolish, but this isn't a match with strikes. This is a BJJ sport competition, not the street. If you think he'd use the exact same tactic in a mma match, street, etc your fooling yourself. If ever in a street fight, where someone takes your back and tries to choke you out... It sure is nice to have these defensive tactics as a reflex. For those of you saying something along the lines of "this or that painful move would open his turtle", I'd argue those tactics put you in a position where he could exploit an opening. Obviously nothing is perfect. Learning defense can't hurt your game. I think defense is what has made Floyd Mayweather the greatest boxer of all time. Defense has never really been emphasized in BJJ, so people are frustrated when confronted with it. Like all things in BJJ, somethings connect with you, others don't. Find what makes you happy, and use those tactics. I thought this was brilliant!

Do you have to keep engaging them when they go into turtle like that. If I were to just stand up and not engage wouldn't the ref make him get up too
Did you watch the whole video?
Can we get raul to do a couple segments on transitions to leglocks and other attacks from turtle and defensive posture?
He is working on that!
Question …do you play “my” turtle and also do you play leglocks yourself?
Instructional is coming out soon......
instructional is out, go check it out
Yeah this guys defense is at the elite level and should be entered into the UFC, he will do well there.
This a work of genius! Like he's seen through the matrix - Telles would be proud
Is that cross legged panda a new position? Love it 😍
If you want to annoy priit .... start calling it buddha panda
Only for the extra flexible disciples.
This shouldn’t even be associated with the word jiu-jitsu
I thought so too at first before i watched all of priit mikhelson’s seminars on bjj globetrotters youtube channel. Hear him out maybe. At the very least he offers super interesting perspectives whether you agree with him or not
why?
@@Madfrostman1 Because BJJ is about protecting yourself during combat and controlling an opponent. Ironically, during combat, this guy would get his brain smashed all over the ground with this nonsense.
@@Cornbreadddd Do you understand why we acted this way in competition?
Is there a particular entry he’s using for the leg locks here? It definitely doesn’t look like a standard rolling kneebar. He clearly inverts but I was wondering if he’s switching to a kind of tornado guard? Is there anything on the net covering these sorts of entries from turtle?
Fantastic video, loving all this new content on RUclips!
He is coming out with the DVD soon about how he attacks from there 🤓
PS. Thank you!
DVD is out... go check it out
He obviously had a goal of proving a strong defense could keep you safe until he saw the right moment.
🤜🤛 ...thank you for that!
When panic sets in, you do what you trained.
Turtle position is ignorant in a self defense art, which juijitsu is.....well....was.
@@michaelbarnhill2685 Well it was someones definition towards bjj ...and I do disagree with that!
@@DefensiveBJJ it was the definition by the people who invented it..both Brazilian juijitsu and Juijitsu.
People disagree with facts all the time.
Their cognitive dissonance helps them to find peace with their own lies.
@@michaelbarnhill2685 I think we are past that time when jiujitsu was considered for selfdefence ...I think jiujitsu can be so much more and one of the applications can be self defence
Well I do have another idea of facts and everything should have room to be questioned ...even gravity is a theory because of that
Also this was the first layer that we were willing to test in competition and yeesh it looked passive but it fulfilled our objective ...if you want to see how turtle effectively work in a fight then watch Robert Whitaker turtle breakdown or also watch Robby Lawler vs Colby Covington first round to see how defence could work
love this , amazing work , you are a genius!
🤜🤛👌🖖
Turtle is like cheesing in videogames. Fun as hell when you pull it off, but annoying for anyone playing against you.
What is "advanced division"? Is that the same as black belt division?
Purple belt and up
It helped that he's just better by a lot and could have won easily at any point. His coach basically just said "okay, now win" near the end of each match. If he hadn't played this way he still would have easily won 7 matches with 7 submissions... Just... ya know, faster.
Do you understand what we went to do in that competition? Turning your back to unknown opponents in a tournament is no easy task. It is easy however say afterwards that he was better or whatever ...we went there to test our defensive ideas
How does the technique do with gi?
Very well!
I am impressed 🥋🐺👍🏼
Are your opponents white belts?
it's advanced division, some of them are black belts
I dono what it's called elsewhere but couldn't you just do a super choke on him? Coz he doesn't seem to be protecting his neck
black or brown belt ? awesome!!!
brown belt now... was still purple a day before that tournament
How is this not stalling?
You have to ask the ref ...we also expected to get stalling calls while testing it all ...it was the price to pay to find out
@@DefensiveBJJ Good stuff
Great technique for competition. Terrible technique for self defense. Also, why does nobody grab his neck or chin? Is this really advanced level grappling in Europe?
Well it was not self defence situation so it is a bit unnecessary to point that out because nobody is also claiming that. If youd would know how this turtle is built then you would understand why the openings are not there! 🙂
So, what's the system you're testing? I don't get it. He was much better than everyone else. So?
We were testing our defensive structures
First defensive layers have that effect on people that they look less skilled than they are
@@DefensiveBJJ No, I don’t buy it. This was just a more skilled fighter stalling and taking advantage of a skill gap. But, I will check out your channel. Perhaps I’m wrong!
@@lowbias Haha …the title even implies that 😂 …we purposly went there to turn our back to unknown opponent to see what happens and to test our defensive ideas under pressure
@@DefensiveBJJ My first comment stands.
If system works is one thing, but if you teach people that default reaction in fight is to go to turtle then the martial arts main purpose of self defense is lost. This martial art is turning into a fun game for many people. Slap jitsu looks like a must for competitions now as a correction tool
God damn, that’s amazing lol. Btw how do this defensive principle in MMA? I guess a lot of defense by just getting up??
One of the rare moments where I actually agree when people say "this would never work in mma"
If you take away the sport element, it basically becomes wrestling.
@@FH-pn1tm right, i’m quite curious how this works in MMA. The foundation of this system is that you don’t give easy underhooks, don’t put too much stress on getting choked and the positions that priit introduces is somewhat eternal. But how does this work if someone is trying to literally smash your face to pieces like khabib
@@ikrampicaso920 short answer: it doesn't work. adding in strikes changes the game completely. there's no point trying to consider how this would work in mma
@@cherryblossom7708 haha yeah you’re probably right, if you’re on your back in MMA, i think you already fucked up long ago lol
Did they just Floyd Mayweather BJJ?
Haha ...good one!
You should totally Dojo storm a few gyms with this system...
hahaha .... dojo storm .... is that still a thing?
This is just showing off now xD
Not really ...this is us doing what people have said we should be doing - testing our ideas under pressure 😎
@@DefensiveBJJ and you guys proved again. It works amazingly!!

This is priceless! 💪🏽

Great display of turtle. I'm using this in sparring since the first Globetrotters video and it works very well. I don't get why people hate on his style. What's the difference between this and pulling closed guard, fighting grips and work towards submission!? Not practical for a street fight? Of course! It's a jiujitsu match. But don't be naive - your top pressure side control could be useless too if the other guy stabs your liver from bottom.
Outstanding.
🤜🤛
this is blowing my mind
most movement is just giving your opponent openings and is therefore unnecessary
close yourself up, wait, and strike exclusively for heal hooks
breaking the bjj meta 😂
🤜🤛
Damn it~ I fckg love his move..but
I don't get his name-do..
He's got great inversion from those positions. I want to learn to do that! :)
Google Raoul Audhoe Attacking from turtle to find my instructional
Nice job against Raphael Lovato Jr in Match 3.
Definitely helps that your leglock game is sick nasty
I can get by. .....few of my students are better leglockers then I am
funny how these guys come to fight in their halloween costumes
Great work. You should be a Priht brown belt now innit.
🤜🤛
Just found myself on the background of this video 😂
Everybody is probably like, " Yeah, fu*k that guy".
Effective, but the weirdest match ever. 😂
That is the price of testing ideas under pressure!
Haha that was pretty fun. I'd love to see this kind of style at the big IBJJF tournaments to see if that still holds up against that level. No offense to Grappling Industries but if there's somebody who can do this to the black belt adults at Worlds that'd be so entertaining!
It has been done in the black belt level in quintet ruclips.net/video/gvPVBHsAHB4/видео.html
We have to start somewhere 😉 ...if the testing leads us finally there then we will see!

I wish I knew if they recognized what he was doing... I'm only a year in but have watched a lot of RUclips so I know running man and panda.... but almost all people ive talked to don't know about it
ThankS… takes a while to spread
Interesting that none of his opponents initiated any of their own foot attacks
beautiful!
