Candace Owens, Rubin, Shapiro etc are horrendous grifters without a drop of shame or substance. They don't even realise that the far right despises them almost as much as the left does
That Larry King moment is how we all need to live our lives. In that moment he knew with all his being that he would soon be dead, and it blessed him with ultimate perspective. In that moment he couldn't care less for a stupid show or how he was 'meant to behave'... he knew what was important and he embraced it fully. Important lesson. We can all do the same right now.
@@marcosrecio4062 I don’t think Richard is saying he should stop his life and sit in a dark room waiting for his son to call. He’s just saying that if it comes down to talking to his son, who Larry doesn’t know how much time he has left to talk to, or doing a RUclips show, he’s figured out it’s more important to use that time to talk to his son. Maybe Larry didn’t have that same perspective 30 or 40 years ago. Maybe he missed a lot of great moments with his older children because he was so focused on his career. That’s the kind of perspective most people would have at 90 and not so much at 50.
After a while of watching him I realised he was just repeating himself and had nothing interesting to add to a discussion. Plus I started to find his voice quite droning and boring. Although others are correct as soon as they as a group referred themselves as the IDB then it was over. Sam Harris quickly trying to row back every discussion he has had with them because he lacks a spine and thought hanging out with them too much would effect his income. Jordan spending far too much time on twitter/x these days rather doing the work that actually made him famous. Bret and Eric are barely interesting enough to bother to keep track of what they do which shows how much it's fallen apart.

Larry’s son cannon who he was talking to on the phone was actually drafted by a Major League Baseball team and now plays football and club basketball at Santa Ana. Props to him for taking such time out of his day to hear from his kids. RIP
Dave Rubin isn’t really a natural political commentator. His talents are as a host and he became popular on the right because he hosted a podcast where a lot of intellectual and conservative voices went viral. He was at the center of that online wave of conservative or anti-woke content but I think he mistook his role in that. Nobody watched the Rubin Report for Rubin’s stance on things. He, like Joe, was more of a facilitator of discussion and a platform. He did that well. I believe he thought people viewed him as commentator and I don’t think people did originally.
Exactly right. If he wanted to expand his role, he should have started interviewing a wider variety of people. Instead, he started commentating but it's just not his strong suit and it makes him look more like a schmuck.
Agreed, i watched his interview with Thomas Sowell not to hear Dave speak but to hear Mr. Sowell speak. Same exact thing with Joe, i couldn't really care less what Joe has to say
It’s crazy because Twitter/social media trolls are undefeated against these older brainy guys because they go on social media and think it’s real when the goal of majority of social media is to get a laugh or to get a rise out of someone lol smh
It's why people like Jordan Peterson will eventually be committed to a mental institution. They did not grow up with social media, so for them cyberbullying is the same as burning books or something.
Joe basically said to his face that he knows he's a grifter with his story about hollywood. joe's been in the industry long enough to notice a grifter or a yesman.
Lol Joe is as big a fool as anyone. Dave Rubin is just extremely stupid. You literally have to have like an 85 IQ or lower to believe Rubin was ever an intellectual.
Joe has experience on both sides, but he's at his worst when he unknowingly props up quacks and insane celebrities based on his own curiosity over his better judgement
Dave Rubin: "There shouldn't be any building regulations." Joe Rogan: "Building regulations are important for safety." Dave Rubin: "Okay, we can have SOME regulations as a treat."
Building standards can exist without government regulations. Permits and codes only make sense 'legally" with municipalities, which have overtaken property and land all across the country. Unincorporated land is harder and harder to find, with some states no longer having any of it left.
Corporations team up with lawmakers to implement regulations that are extremely expensive or impossible to execute to corner the market or buy out business.... not to mention the minimal impact of the regulations when in place.
The dude sat in front of Ben Shapiro and just smiled as Shapiro told him that his marriage shouldn’t be legal. Edit: Ben straight up said, to Dave’s face, that Ben refuses to endorse any aspect of Dave’s marriage. It had nothing to do with government
What's funny, is Ben thinks his own marriage shouldn't be legal. He doesn't think government should be the one involved in marriage. It's a religious thing. The government shouldn't be involved in religious unions of 2 people. He's spoke on it a few times, for sure.

Dave stopped using "classical liberal" and switched to "modern conservative" after he interviewed Nigel Farage on his show and Farage told him "classical liberal" is a term for debating society but not for the real world. You could see Rubin instantaneously realize Farage was right and you could also see the disappointment in his face. It was a moment of begrudging acceptance and I haven't heard him refer to himself as a classical liberal since.
"classical liberal" always was a slimey term, since it was so broad and vague. these people were never left wing or "liberal". between their social values leaning into conservative and their economic views being libertarian conservative, the only "liberal" or left wing thing about them is that they didn't hate gays as much.
@@boarfaceswinejaw4516 Dave got the term from Larry Elder, who was on his show and told him he sounded like one. Interesting that the genesis and the end of Dave referring to himself as one emanated from different guests on his show. It's outdated now, but when initially coined "liberal" did not mean left, or even moderate left. It meant libertarian or at least a broader category of which libertarian is a subset. The term was hijacked by the left. But that's ancient history. Now it means, to whatever degree, left of center.
@@benmeltzer what? liberal wasnt fucking hijacked by the left, the "left" on the political compass became the home of liberals because the right wing throughout most of history has never represented free market forces, outside of immediate convenience. hell, in a lot of places conservative literally meant "pro-monarchy". Liberal became a catch-all-term for democrats because democrats, after the party switch, represented social, cultural and economic freedom. thats literally it. in europe, and most of the world outside of the US, liberals generally denotes center/center right politics, but thats because those countries have actual left wing parties. incidentally also why those countries tend to have stronger social security nets, infrastructure and all of the other things conservatives are quick to call "communism". and even then, liberals tend to be moderate centrists.
Some points to note: - Rubin no longer refers to himself as a “classical liberal” and now actually acknowledges himself a “conservative”. He has done for some time now. - Joe Rogan has referred to Dave Rubin as a “wounded antelope” - Rubin is most definitely a grifter and is at the mercy of the likes of Prager, Glenn Beck and is bankrolled handsomely by Charlie Koch - which is why he will never push back on the right. You said it yourself, he doesn’t want to bite the hand that feeds him. - The IDW is now a dated term. People are aware of its cringe factor. Sam Harris has said he wishes to “hand in his imaginary membership card” and disassociate himself from this. - Speaking of Harris, he too, has also lost all respect for Rubin and is fully aware of him being a grifter.
Isn't sam harris a liberal? Like I don't understand why the IDW was seen as a conservative group but had 1 liberal who has debated with many conservatives.

His time as a liberal and his switch was probably traumatizing. As a liberal you have to make sure you believe exactly the same thing and any different opinion can end your career. That's not how conservatism works, that's why conservatives speak without fear. He's really concerned with what people think about him, and because he's only been a conservative for so long, his ideas aren't built out yet.

15:46 Coming from a third world country, Joe is absolutely right. Dave is a politician, not an engineer. There was a garment factory collapse and hundreds of workers died in my country Bangladesh because of lack of regulation, negligence and corporate greed. If you watch any engineering failure videos on RUclips, the engineers will stress the fact how important it is to abide by the building codes.
I do get what Dave was trying to get at tho. @@TehBAiNzOr ROFL yea, paper trails. That's why they charge $750... for the paper. You don't need a piece of paper to hold the contractor accountable. It's a money making scheme for the city/county.

Dave Rubin isn’t anything other than a person taking advantage of a particular group of people who want to be told “You’re right! And everyone else is wrong. “.
I saw this simp’s interview w/JRE and it was exactly what you said. One big run for cover. It’s like Dave had finally gotten on Joes show and he actually thought he knew who Joe was. He figured Joe was just some “fuck the government in every form it takes” type of guy. And that’s who he tried to play to. Of course it didn’t work out for him b/c Joes BS meter and as less clouded by the copious amounts of weed and alcohol they are otherwise regularly subjected to.

My earliest memory of Dave Rubin is that he agreed with everyone, and disagreed with no one but himself if he got some push back. No spine.

Dave Rubin: "Okay, we can have SOME regulations as a treat."
Building regulations are why nothing can be built in California.
When he said that I realized how much of an idiot he is.
Building standards can exist without government regulations. Permits and codes only make sense 'legally" with municipalities, which have overtaken property and land all across the country. Unincorporated land is harder and harder to find, with some states no longer having any of it left.
Lol, yea, he was really sweating
Corporations team up with lawmakers to implement regulations that are extremely expensive or impossible to execute to corner the market or buy out business.... not to mention the minimal impact of the regulations when in place.

@@benmeltzer
what? liberal wasnt fucking hijacked by the left, the "left" on the political compass became the home of liberals because the right wing throughout most of history has never represented free market forces, outside of immediate convenience. hell, in a lot of places conservative literally meant "pro-monarchy".

@@Skrenja And also depending on his ego.
Jordan Peterson wearing the dual suit is the completion of his batman villain character arc.
It's such a weird move to ask someone to make a social commitment during a recorded show, especially one that benefits only you. I think that's one of the other off-putting mistakes Dave is making. It comes off as desperate, and it kind of shows how he is viewing the conversation as a career move. Sure, it often is, but Joe especially doesn't want to feel like a tool for other people's careers.
I like how Dave made Ben look like a complete bigot, it makes me wonder if Dave is doing this on purpose.
The regulations only matter if
A: there are enough regulators to enforce the code
B: the fine for harming people is greater than the profit earned.
Cars makers sometimes won't recall cars because the wrongful death lawsuits cost less than a recall. Same with pharmaceutical companies.
That is assuming the family of the person harmed has the money to hire an attorney and sue.
Big lolz on this one. I was upper management at a large European car manufacturer, and we had - literally - 32 people burn to death because of an electric faults in one of our vehicles... and, dude, we spent a whole fucking weekend calculating which would cost us more money. I'll give you a clue to the answer... That meeting was after 7 deaths lmao. In the end we got fined 460 million. But hey ho. You win some, you lose some.
Joe always looks at Jamie and smirks when he thinks something that his guest said is dumb lol
I’m so glad I stumble across your channel out of nowhere. Solid commentary.
Joe Rogan will outlast all these dickheads.
Thanks for making this channel bro. Love ur entertaining commentary on the standup/podcast world

Sam Harris also always hated the "Intellectual Dark Web" title lmao. It's funny how like half the people in it either didn't belong or wanted nothing to do with the others.
They were all intellectually opposed to each other. The irony :P
@@shadow_realm47 What's so ironic about that? That is the point. It is to get people with opposing point of view to sit down together and talk about world events. Not to sit in a echo chamber congratulating each other and patting themselves on the back. If you didn't get that just stop making comments about this subject.
@@havu2236Echo chamber and back pats describes everyone in that circle besides Harris. Such free thinkers that they all came to the exact same populist positions on the economy, virology, foreign affairs, etc.

Dave Rubin did this one interview with PBD that was kinda weird and always stuck with me. He brought up an example while trying to explain why he thinks Donald Trump is a genuinely nice guy, where he was at a dinner and met Trump, then introduced him to his husband. To which Trump apparently reacted by going "Whoah? You're GAY? That's incredible! Hey Melania check it out, these guy's are GAY! Can ya believe it? Isn't that just wonderful?" and made a big performance that really sounded like Trump was just taking the piss and making fun of the guy. Yet Rubin thought it was this amazing proof of Trump's kind nature or something lmao
He doesn't come off as your typical gay guy. It shocked me when I found out he was gay too. Don just wanted to be real with him and still let him know he accepts him by introducing him to his wife. Stop looking for outrage where there is none.
Always remember when the tds starts a brewin, donald trump was the first president ever to support gay marriage before becoming president.

Bro has no true friends, I'd rather be alone than be friends with someone who thinks my existence is wrong. Dave is just an opportunist for whatever gets his name out there more, god the desperation in him begging Joe to be on his show was just pathetic, serious nice guy I'll get you to be on my show by fake being your super enthusiastic friend. @@jessed6151except I watched Dave make his slow, more than year long transition from left to classical liberal in real time every week as at happened from 2015 to 2016, just 3 or 4 years after I had made the same transition myself in 2011. It was fascinating watching someone go through most of the same struggles and internal arguments that I had, making the same counter arguments to some of his early guests as I had thought in my head. You can't fake that.

Larry King answering his phone call about a baseball game has nothing to do with any interviewer... I can only hope that a phone call about my family in that old age would be as important as it is right then...
I fucking love how disrespectful it was to Dave and Larry could not have cared less
Man, you totally voiced the feelings that made me dislike Dave Rubin. I viewed him as someone totally devoid of substance, but did not really know why. Great video!
That building argument is so bad.
They cut corners even with regulation, so lets get rid of any and all ways to hold builders liable for it. Makes sense.
Saying the free market will regulate safety itself is such a bad faith argument, and shows this guy has never been on an active construction zone.
Joe was creeped out by this from the jump but got roped in by peer pressure and pressure from his audience. Joe seems over the culture war. It's not 2017 anymore.
I don’t think he’s over it, I think he doesn’t wanna get pulled in more… Trump would be on otherwise.
We know why he won’t have trump on and if he was over the war, having Trump on with not matter.
😮
@@RickyWatter32 what? The mental gymnastics you had to pull to make that make sense were crazy. Having trump on would absolutely further entrench him in it. He seems to be distancing himself from all culture warriors. He clearly wants to go back to focusing on comedy.

No, he's just a sell out that decided making 40 million dollars a year being independent wasn't enough and he needed to be under Spotify's thumb.

Dave Rubin makes Joe Rogan sound reasonable and smart and that is very hard thing to do. 😂😂😂
I HATE when people use the "interesting academic concept" to argue (weakly) a point that they can't defend and fear pushback on. It's exactly what Dave does there. He says he thinks building regulations are stupid, Joe makes valud points about why they're necessary and immediately he jumps to "I don't think regulations are bad, I just think it's an interesting academic discussion". It's like people playing "Devil's Advocate" because they're too much of coward to actually stand behind what they think/say/believe.
I met Brett Weinstein (Eric's brother) at a grocery store in Portland Oregon. Had a nice albeit short chat with him. Seems like someone who would have been fun to have as a professor before everything got stupid for him and his wife at Evergreen. Nice firm handshake too.
I thought he was a little dead-fishy, myself.
They’re both total weirdos but they definitely have some interesting things to say. I’d like to meet them both and say hi and thanks for contributing to open dialogue. It’s important to acknowledge that today.

I actually love that Larry dropped everything to answer a mundane phonecall from his son. It really humanizes him, his priorities are in the right place.
Calling yourself the intellectual darkweb is the most cringe middle school type shit
Rubin embraced the "intellectual dark web" thing more than anyone. He's a collectivist at heart. Same reason he'd rather work for The Blaze than go it alone.
My brain is still in recovery mode from all of Dave Rubin's high level ideas. And his voice certainly doesn't make me want to shove an ice pick in my ears.
Hold up…. Was BRIAN CALLEN seriously in that intellectual dark web pic?? Literally no one has ever referred to Callen as “an intellectual”
4:23 it's hilarious how drunk Joe is in that clip. The responses from Duncan Trussell "that's cool man" make it even funnier.
I read the comment as it happened 😂

Larry was a legend for that
The greatest roast of all time was Larry just outright disregarding Rave Dubin on his own show. The full length clip is immensely funny.
if Dave had any respect for himself, he would have ended that Larry King interview.
Or, you know, have a response when Ben Shapiro is telling him his marriage is fraudulent.
Larry Kings kid must be in his 80s playing baseball that amazing
Rogan talking about grifters with Duncan Trussell sitting across from him is so ironic.
Larry had his priorities straight.
I was beginning to feel bad for him since he’s always getting dogged by his “friends” for being gay, but then you hit the nail on the head: he lets it happen and never stands up for himself. He chose money over defending himself. Hard to feel bad for that
Loving the longer form content for subjects like this, you give great context
