  • Flo & Eddie of the Turtles perform on a late night TV show broadcast in summer 1987, hosted by George Carlin (replacing the just-fired Joan Rivers). The BetaGems channel also has "60s Reunion: 1993 Turtles, Martha Reeves, Julie Newmar, more," "The Turtles 3-19-67 Flo & Eddie TV performance," "Flo & Eddie and the Turtles and Grass Roots live TV March 1992," "The Turtles 2-12-67 Flo & Eddie TV performance," "The Turtles Flo & Eddie 2-5-88 late night TV performance," "Flo & Eddie March 1988 San Diego TV news pre-concert interview," "George Carlin 11-18-88 interview late night TV," "10-29-94 Smothers Brothers induct George Carlin into Hall of Fame," and "George Carlin & Ed O'Neill 1994 Sunday night promo."
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded between from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on RUclips or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads.
In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.

Kaylan was arguably the finest vocalist of the 60's, and also the oldest 40 year old you've ever seen here. Lol

He was one of several rotating guest hosts of the Late Show after Joan Rivers got fired - he also had a one-off HBO sitcom called Apartment 2B (unsold pilot) and a shortlived Fox TV sitcom that ran after Married With Children -

Howard was 40 when they recorded this show? I thought he was in his upper 50s. His voice still sounded good though!

If anything he does looks silly, you can bet it was done purposely. He always dressed goofy.

Flo is a 🤡 clown. It's not flamboyant it's just a clown show. Just my opinion. Sorry they got ripped off like so many artists before and after them. You need great management and an entertainment lawyer first, period.

Anyone can wright a song where the lyrics are baa ba ba baaaa. There's no talent there. It says you can't write lyrics.

Hahaha The Turtles are a perfect pop group and arguably the best vocals of the 60’s. Get out of here with that

Say what you will about their lyrics, but few songs in pop history have had more infectious hooks than the Turtles' songs, including the one played here, "She'd Rather Be With Me". They're gifted funny performers with a satirical streak and a sizeable list of instantly recognizable hits. I've been lucky enough to see several of their live shows. Can still remember a bit from 1986 where they sang "Maniac", complete with Flo dramatically draping himself backwards over a chair and drenching himself with water precisely like the dancer in "Flashdance". They also perfectly rendered a few bars of Quiet Riot's "Cum On Feel the Noize" before abruptly cutting it off with a dismissive, "But we don't do that shit!" 😄
