- We are happy to confirm that Shadow of the Colossus for PlayStation 4 will launch in 2018.
As we stressed during our E3 2017 unveil, Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 is not a port or remaster. The beloved all-time classic has been completely rebuilt by the highly regarded team at Bluepoint Games. They are no stranger when it comes to reintroducing gems of PlayStation’s past for new generations of gamers to experience; their reputation for faithful, beautiful restorations precedes them.
I don’t care who you are or what gaming console you have, there is no way you can deny this was a revolutionary game that bridged the gap between games and art
I can deny that. Silent Hill 2 did it way before SotC did.

Why? Creative Username and his 29 supporters can be happy, I just voiced my opinion, that doesn't mean I don't love Shadow of the Colossus or something, I do.

We need more games like this. Pure atmosphere, scale and immersion. The gaming industry is becoming more and more like Hollywood which has become stale with 'action' titles to keep those with short attention spans amused. Give me an immersive game like this any day.

If you're looking for atmosphere, I recommend Bloodborne if you haven't already played it.
EpicSonicSkillz Idk mate, somewhere that doesn't have too many multiplayer first person shooters with loot boxes and micro-transactions. It's a small space these days.
Praius Sorry, JAPAN Studio will soon unveil their AAA Hollywood project for casuals to be excited about.
This studio is pretty much done with art and jrpgs. They are now heading into a new direction with cinematic mature story (Save the Earth) and service based games (Freedom Wars).
It's a new start and a new era for JAPAN Studio with PS4 and beyond. New engine and technologies. Kinda similar to when Naughty Dog moved away from cartoony Jak & Daxter to mature stories.
Sucker Punch is moving away from inFamous which was kind of silly but Ghost of Tsushima is their new direction into mature games.
Just look at Square Enix, what is happening with FF? And that Left Alive project. Why is everything Hollywood-esque now? Tabata said FF15 was targeting a global audience and he wants his next project to be a truly global title. Where is the classic jrpg feel?
It's only Nintendo, Monolith Soft and From Software who keeps the spirit of gameplay going nowadays. JAPAN Studio had flaws with their gameplay based games but they weren't bad. This new direction they are heading into is scary and disappointing. Monolith Soft keeps pumping out jrpgs.

Impressive to see that Agro remains by far the most beautifully animated horse in videogame history. Other games, like Red Dead, Witcher 3, AC Origins, etc, do have some nice horse riding, but too mechanical to me. Lacking the visceral, emotional feeling that makes horse riding memorable. Agro's animation is so elegant and smooth, and I love all the small interactions (petting, fast 180 turn, riding while standing, skid stop, clinging on the side, etc) you can have with him. It makes him feel like a believable being, living horse, and not just a simple vehicle as in most other games including horse riding.
Red dead redemption 2 says hello
This game was ahead of its time.
The horse movement is so elegant, no other game does it better
But can it scale a mountain like Skyrim's horse?
Yeah, what about Red Dead Redemption. Probably the best horse movement seen in any game to date, it definitely blows this out of the water! :)
Pioneerz Well it's amazing that this is even comparable considering it came out on the PS2 orginally and is still really good physics wise
Agro's movement is far better than the horses on RDR, more fluid and smooth

I was thinking about the new generations (it's the first time I write something like this, I'm 18 years old) that will play this game for the first time with this remake... In that case, this trailer is spoiling one of the only 16 enemies the game has.

Jairo it is still binded with the first two games. A SOTC 2 would be far worst. Just the idea of a sequel sucks, if you think for a moment about how Ueda works

This game made me cry on PS2... I suppose I'll be diagnosed with crippling depression after playing it in PS4.
The Forrest area seems new
There is a forest in the original but its fairly dark and annoying to navigate and you don't ever have to go through it to get to any Colossi
IronBahamut feels a bit out of place seeing the main character surrounded by tall trees

i heard they add new colossus in this version.
Don’t remember the original having the lush forest so close to this colossus area, it seems like a sudden jump in atmosphere

I read that the game was originally supposed to have a lot more collosai in the game but they got cut. I wonder if Sony will take the time to put some of them back into the game.

Artist Vision Blue Point does a technical work, they work with graphics, editing, remastering and other stuff, they are not fumito Ueda
Asrael From the Abyss the map still has the left over places for the last eight that were removed.
They actually have every possible excuse not to do so.The choice to have 16 colossus was, well, a choice from Ueda and his team. Adding other colossi would mean nothing on a narrative side. Plus, if some colossi were abandoned during production, it's because they were judged uninteresting from a game design standpoint, and most were simple clones of those who were kept in the actual final game.
To sum that up, they didn't represent any real added value for the game or the players. Imo, this remake doesn't need them at all. It all comes down to the famous golden rule : quality over quantity.
NeodeosX actually the only one they removed from what you just described was the spider which had a one hit k.o but the other seven should be added, for fucks sake the areas where they were supposed to be are still on the map.
There were far more than 8 colossi left out, but even if the world map retains some unused dedicated places, it doesn't change the fact that these colossi were cut off the final game for conscious reasons by the dev team, and I think it's best that it stays this way, that BluePoint respects the decisive vision Ueda and his team had for the game. I understand that some would like them to include such stuff, but to me, it's alright.

So I went back and watched this boss fight in the HD remaster for ps3/ps4. The graphics in the remake are amazing compared to the original, for sure. The movement and flow is much smoother and new gen compared to the remaster/original. The ruins are much better in detail and stand more like an alter in the remake compared to the few stones that were on the ground in the hd remaster. The only beef I have is that the boss size is significantly smaller than the original. If you go back and watch the video you'll see just how much less of climbing distance you need to make on this boss before being able to damage it. I loved the original SotC, and I so badly wanted a second game to continue this silent, but compelling work of art. But now seeing the same thing over has me at an impasse. I'm excited to play the game again with the new gen graphics etc. But I really hope there is more to the game than the original because I beat the vanilla version in a single morning sitting. I can only hope and cross my fingers.
GeneticColossus Yeah the colossu looks smaller but i bet they finally did what they wanted to do back on ps2. Probably most people dont know but they wanted to do a lot more, if you remember there is a big part on the map that you couldnt go on ps2, some people used the bugs to go and what they found was an unfinished area... The ps2 couldnt handle the sotc thats why in some parts the game simple drops the fps and you feel some "breaks" while moving. the team couldnt put all the content they wanted. More colossus, more map to explore, more secrets. You remember the secret garden right? You remember walking the brigde just to find that you couldnt go outside right? Well, they are remaking the game, i hope they do all they wanted back then and even more. More colossus, secret garden, bigger map, and if they let us go outside the bridge even if its only for extra content... well...take my money :)

the beast would dive below the sand after each spot so you couldn't do it all in one run. basically the fight is made shorter for the trailer. that is if memory serves of course.

There was a reason why there wasn't more than 16 colossi in the game and it was apparently due to game mechanics as the cut ones were too similar in terms of design and puzzles to the ones which made it into the game. You could also say it was due to the limited capacity of the PS2 but im more along the lines that adding in the cut colossi seems unecessary.
