I was finally able to pick up a 432 UC a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say I’m a convert to the cartridge. Carried a stock 442-1 for over 20 years and the transition to the 432UC was a easy one.
From experience in hunting with the. 32 magnum and. 327 federal magnum they are both very underrated! That is from someone who usually uses .357 and .44 magnums. Very dependable and controllable using either. 32 caliber ! Great guns for utility and easy carry !
I am one of those guys who chose .32 h&r magnum over .38 special and .380 acp. I liked the cartridge so much I picked up the Taurus 327, a pair of charter arms professionals, helped a friend pick up a professional, found a gp100 lipsey exclusive in .327, and am now hunting for a Henry in .327. In my opinion the .32 h&r is perfect for the lighter snubbie/pocket revolvers and the .327 shines in the heavier sp101 and gp100 style heavier revolvers.

It is more reliable than .22 lr, generally has a lighter double action trigger than .22 mag, has less recoil/snappiness than 380 acp and .38 special, and unlike .32 s&w long is actually potent enough to function with modern defensive bullet designs. How this cartridge hasn't caught on as the pocket carry for snubbie revolvers is beyond me, but it needs more attention from high quality content makers such as yourself. Thanks for putting out such excellent video's on it.
I stumbled upon a Smith & Wesson 431 for sale in a local pawn shop and picked it up for a pittance because they thought it was unsellable due to the caliber. For me, the advantage of a J-frame in .32 H&R magnum over .38 special is the follow up shots. If you follow the conclusion of Greg Ellifritz, from his study of multiple self-defense shooting incidents, the caliber doesn't matter so much as shooting the attacker twice. People seem to shake off getting shot once, even with a powerful cartridge, but getting shot twice makes them realize that they need to stop. Because a J-frame will buck in the hand so much, it is slower to get off the second shot than with .32 H&R magnum, which is very fast and easy to shoot.
I own a Charter Arms Professional 3” barrel . It is the most perfect round for self protection. Low recoil and superb performance. I prefer the Charter Arms lightness.
I am with you Amigo! I too have the Charter Arms Professional 3” barrel, I put on the Charter Arms Combat grips and have never looked back! Love shooting this gun. The .32 Mag is more than capable, and when its time to have some fun, .32S&W Long fits the bill ALL DAY LONG!
@@ths414 I carry two of my reloads. One is an 85 grain XTP with 4.7 grains of Unique. The other is an Oregon Trail 115 grain hard cast SWC with 4.5 grains of Unique.
Charter Arms off duty in 32 HR mag is a great choice. Weighs less than a 642 S&W and 6 round capacity. DA only but it smooths out nicely with use. The 32 HR mag also may use the 32 S&W Long and even 32acp. 32 S&W Long is a real treat with next to no recoil and ballistics roughly equivalent to 38 special round nose. Great choice for the snub revolver package IMO. Great video.
I went with the stainless Charter Arms Undercoverette and spent many hours cleaning up that terrible finish and replacing the plastic trigger guard with aluminum. Also, they shoot very low and I had to shave off much of the front sight. But what I have now, for what I paid...very happy with the 32H&R.
I'd love to get an LCRx in 327 with the 3in barrel, but wearing the smaller grip from the snub LCR. I feel like that'd make a fantastic CCW. Esp when firing 32H&R. I would love to add the entire 32 family to the list of cartridges that I reload for. Pair any little revolver in 327 with Henry's lever gun and they 32's could cover a lot of bases. Heck, even paired with a 12ga sub cal adapter in 327. That way you could keep the versatility of the shotgun on hunting/camping trips too. Great video, always enjoy the content. Thanks for sharing 👍

Apparently Lipsey's has an exclusive LCRx in 327 with a 3 inch barrel, but I have never actually seen one for sale online or even in pictures. I agree it would be an ideal carry piece and even perfect "do it all" revolver.
I've got the SP101 in the nightstand also. I got the SP101 right after they came out with 327 since it was the only one at that time. Then I got the Taurus Titanium, then the S&W Air Weight, then another Taurus which failed, just recently another Taurus Ultra Lite, and this week an S&W Air Lite Ti (titanium cylinder) the lightest of all these H&R Magnums. With an IDPA target I was doing a nice group of head shots at 15yds with the Air Weight and the Taurus Titanium. I have always felt this is a reliable round for self defense and these are well built firearms to use. The one Taurus failed when I let someone else shoot it on another bay so I don't really know what happened to it but it was locked up and would no longer cycle although I could open and close the cylinder. Traded it back in to the seller on an Erma M-1 carbine in 22lr, fun gun.😅 Online auctions still have some Taurus and S&W but you are likely to pay over $1000.00 for the S&W, trust me. Am looking now at a Henry in 327.

A 3 inch SP101 in 32 H&R with handloads is my go to gun. Plenty of bullets are available to handloaders at reasonable prices. You can hot rod this loading a bit compared to what an H&R would safely handle. A pound of Red Dot or W231 goes a long way, and doesn't make big fireballs.
I have heard of .32 H&R loaded as hot as .327 FED Mag for use in revolvers chambered for .327 Fed Mag. This could be handy if .327 Fed Mag brass becomes difficult to find - but I have no idea if .32 H&R brass is strong enough to take the strain safely - 45k psi is awfully high pressure though, I would not be comfortable doing it myself.
@deandeann1541 the only brass I have for the 32 H&R was virgin Starline brass. It doesn't get any better than that. But I have no desire to push it to 327 levels. That is beyond what I consider fun to shoot.
My go to for pocket carry, is my J frame S&W 432PD chambered in. 32 H&R Mag. Great little revolver, and yes.. the ammo is a bit expensive and a little tough to find.
Coming to a DA trigger revolver from a DA/SA semi-auto (CZ P07 and CZ 75D PCR), I really like my Charter Arms Undercoverette. It's comfortable in its holster, too, making it a nicer choice for warm-weather carry.
I guess because I watched a random RUclips pick on .32 revolvers, RUclips has given me a few more. Because I commented on one or two of those, I've seen more. I picked up a Charter Arms Undercoverette in .32 H&R Magnum a few weeks ago, and have been quite pleased with the gun. Holsters have been another issue, however. Yes, it fits well in a holster made for a J-frame S&W, but the problems I've had are that the first holster tends to crush when it's in my waistband and the pistol is out, making reholstering a chore, or the belt clip didn't keep the holster attached to my belt (and thus hidden--the whole shebang fell off my belt once; happily, nobody was around to notice). I have another holster on order that should address both issues and still make for a reasonably comfortable carry.
My issued .38 saved me more than once during my 30 yrs (retired ‘97) so that’s what I carry in retirement. Maybe I’m too old to change, just don’t see a need for these newer calibers.
.32 H&R Magnum has significantly less recoil than .38 Special out of the same package. In a full-size service revolver, which I presume you are referring to, you're not getting enough recoil out of .38 Special to be bothered by it. But out of the lightweight snubnose revolvers in .38 Special that the majority of people carrying revolver are carrying, the difference between .38 and .32 H&R is EXTREMELY noticeable. My mother, who is a recoil sensitive shooter, loves shooting .32 H&R and .32 S&W Long out of her J-Frame a lot more than she did shooting .38 out of her previous J-Frame.
Great video. I've been looking for a 32 H&R Ruger Single Six for a long time now. I think the caliber would be excellent for a field cartridge for small game, even at distance if handloaded properly. If you handload, this cartridge has a lot of ballistic advantages over the 38 and is very cheap to reload.
I've always loved hot rodded smaller caliber rounds (327, 7x25 Tokarev, 357 Sig) and have had a 3" Sp101 327 as my carry gun for about 15 years. Too much recoil? Gold Dots or the AE 100gr SP? sure, but that's a relatively good problem to have when you can choose 32 Magnum or a lower recoiling load of 327. Heck, even 32 Long Wadcutters are underrated.
I think the likelihood of any malfunction is much less in a revolver, damn near zero with a well-known brand that is properly cleaned and maintained. However, the very best semiautos will malfunction when mag dumping and using defensive ammo. "tap and rack" is universally known and practiced because it occurs regularly. Also, a light primer strike in a revolver can be fixed on the spot, just pull the trigger again. Having said all that, I think the more mild 327 loads are a great option over H&R magnums
I thought this about revolvers too until I had a primer back out under recoil into the firing pin hole and totally lock my gun up. Put it entirely out of commission as anything other than a bludgeon until I could get to a gunsmithing bench and completely break it down. This is something that absolutely can happen to a revolver especially in the magnum calibers. But it happens far less often than semi-auto jams. Its a balancing act of prosVcons and a very personal decision, but it sure factored into mine when choosing to carry a P365.
Must be a reason for the .32 or Federal would not of come out with the .327 Federal. Have not shot the .32 much but have seen rifles in the .32 special and the work fine on deer.
I don't understand why someone would get a .32 H&R Magnum when one could get a .327 Federal Magnum and shoot both rounds. Because neither round is particularly popular, availability might be difficult sometimes. Getting the revolver that can fire both means being able to fire whatever ammunition is available. Granted, I'd love to have two firearms for these calibers, but few of us have an unlimited budget. If I were trying to market .32 H&R Magnum, I'd try to persuade some company to make a revolver that would be somewhere between J-frame and K-frame and would have a seven-round cylinder. I would want a four-inch barrel for the extra sight radius and extra velocity, but a three-inch barrel would be better for concealed carry. As someone said, pairing this revolver with a lever-action rifle would produce a fun combination.
I have an interest in the Charter Arms professional but I'm not sure I need anything more in 32, I have 4 327s and 2 H&Rs, one of which is an actual H&R. My EDC is an LCRX in 327 fed and the hammer is pretty low profile, a thumb can easily prevent hammer snag while allowing a little more precision in SA..
Off topic but can you tell me if the 357 Maxim is still around? I remember when I was a lot younger reading about Ruger coming out with a Blackhawk in a brand new caliber and I planned on buying one when I could save enough money. Always thought it was a great idea but later learned that the round was experiencing issues like case splitting so never bought one. Thought it would be an excellent lever action brush gun and pistol/rifle combo. Never understood why effort wasn’t made to fix the problem and keep it going.
I just ordered some .38 Special wadcutter ammo where the bullet is recessed to the rim of the casing, but will be fired out of a .357 Magnum cylinder. ...Should I be concerned about how far back the bullet is before it engages the barrel/rifling? It looks to me like the bullet has a period of time where it's just kinda free-floating in the cylinder before touching anything.
An excellent question and the answer is you do not need to worry. Even if the projectile is hollow base, it will conform to the size of the cylinder wall diameter for a instant and then pinch down to the bore diameter once it enters. Wad cutter ammo is very, very prevalent among re-loaders and has been for along time. You are totally good to use and enjoy.
I'd imagine so. That's about the ideal use case for it, in my opinion. Backup guns in ankle holsters are one of the few areas where many people consider snub-nosed revolvers competitive, if not outright superior to similarly-sized autoloaders. The Undercoverette offers competitive size, weight, and capacity to the .38 Specials more commonly used in such guns, and also gives you the option of using of .32 S&W Long wadcutters which are incredibly gentle in terms of report and recoil, although they won't be as effective as expanding magnum rounds. If the Undercoverette feels right to you, I'd say go for it.
Before you buy the Undercoverette for that, they’ve come out with something better. It’s called the Charter Arms Off Duty, which is DAO with a concealed hammer and a smaller grip.
That's why I carry a S&W model 29 with certain ammo that wont go thru a person. If you need 15-30 9mm rounds to do the job ,they you need to stop watching TV, and get back into reality.
I've heard & seen videos of so many police shootings where cops carrying Glock17s hit assailants 5, 6, 7, times & even more if they are pumped up with illegal drugs & the perps almost always survive the encounter despite the new bullet tech that 9mm fanboys always bring up. Me personally I prefer 40s&w in particular the Glock22 lightweight & powerful pistol loaded with Remington HTP 180 recoil is nowhere near as bad as many people claim.
Do keep in mind, your priorities are different than those of the police. They’re actively looking for bad guys and are determined to apprehend them or kill them with no retreat. Bad guys know the difference, that if they turn and flee you are obligated to stop shooting. You’re trying to avoid bad guys. Unless you own an all-cash pot business or something else that makes you a high-value target, as soon as you show you’re not a soft target, in most cases they’ll be looking for a way out.

Charter Arms Professional 7 round 3" barrrel in .32 magnum is the best example. Wife likes the 6 round CA Undercoverette, another great choice.

The charter professional- how does it compair to S&W in size? Is it a K- frame (Model 10) or a larger size (L-frame).

I havlde a similar idea, but for the .410 since slugs for it are so hard to find.
Badger makes nice rosewood grips for the LCR. Smaller than the stock grips and they don’t pull at your clothing.

The American Eagle 100 grain 327 magnum out of a 16" barrel scoots along at about 2000 fps.

You have to train with your gun means you need to buy ammo.

The .327 revolvers are very difticult to find, esp for folks who prefer to buy locally. Purchasing ammo is even worse.
I bought my NEF 32 magnum at a local gun store for $19 in 1991. Isn't a S&W , but it works every time.
As noted below, Charter Arms provides good quality handguns for a very competitive price.

If you're going with anything in the 32 family, go 327. You can always scale down from there.

Because neither round is particularly popular, availability might be difficult sometimes. Getting the revolver that can fire both means being able to fire whatever ammunition is available. Granted, I'd love to have two firearms for these calibers, but few of us have an unlimited budget.
If I were trying to market .32 H&R Magnum, I'd try to persuade some company to make a revolver that would be somewhere between J-frame and K-frame and would have a seven-round cylinder. I would want a four-inch barrel for the extra sight radius and extra velocity, but a three-inch barrel would be better for concealed carry. As someone said, pairing this revolver with a lever-action rifle would produce a fun combination.
I have an interest in the Charter Arms professional but I'm not sure I need anything more in 32, I have 4 327s and 2 H&Rs, one of which is an actual H&R.
My EDC is an LCRX in 327 fed and the hammer is pretty low profile, a thumb can easily prevent hammer snag while allowing a little more precision in SA..
Wish Charter Arms would come out with a 32 H&R mag in their lightweight On Duty and/or their Off Duty models. That would be a good carry gun.

2+2=4, but 3+2=5. 5 is one more than 4 so this proves that .32 is one better for self defense than .22.
I'll just stick to my .38 Special Colt Dick Special. But my preferred home defense pistol is a 1911 .45ACP. No fooling with niche rounds.

Off topic but can you tell me if the 357 Maxim is still around? I remember when I was a lot younger reading about Ruger coming out with a Blackhawk in a brand new caliber and I planned on buying one when I could save enough money. Always thought it was a great idea but later learned that the round was experiencing issues like case splitting so never bought one. Thought it would be an excellent lever action brush gun and pistol/rifle combo. Never understood why effort wasn’t made to fix the problem and keep it going.
I just ordered some .38 Special wadcutter ammo where the bullet is recessed to the rim of the casing, but will be fired out of a .357 Magnum cylinder. ...Should I be concerned about how far back the bullet is before it engages the barrel/rifling? It looks to me like the bullet has a period of time where it's just kinda free-floating in the cylinder before touching anything.
An excellent question and the answer is you do not need to worry. Even if the projectile is hollow base, it will conform to the size of the cylinder wall diameter for a instant and then pinch down to the bore diameter once it enters. Wad cutter ammo is very, very prevalent among re-loaders and has been for along time. You are totally good to use and enjoy.
Would the Charter Arms Undercoverette make a good ankle holster gun?
I'd imagine so. That's about the ideal use case for it, in my opinion. Backup guns in ankle holsters are one of the few areas where many people consider snub-nosed revolvers competitive, if not outright superior to similarly-sized autoloaders.
The Undercoverette offers competitive size, weight, and capacity to the .38 Specials more commonly used in such guns, and also gives you the option of using of .32 S&W Long wadcutters which are incredibly gentle in terms of report and recoil, although they won't be as effective as expanding magnum rounds. If the Undercoverette feels right to you, I'd say go for it.

Before you buy the Undercoverette for that, they’ve come out with something better. It’s called the Charter Arms Off Duty, which is DAO with a concealed hammer and a smaller grip.

That's why I carry a S&W model 29 with certain ammo that wont go thru a person. If you need 15-30 9mm rounds to do the job ,they you need to stop watching TV, and get back into reality.
I've heard & seen videos of so many police shootings where cops carrying Glock17s hit assailants 5, 6, 7, times & even more if they are pumped up with illegal drugs & the perps almost always survive the encounter despite the new bullet tech that 9mm fanboys always bring up. Me personally I prefer 40s&w in particular the Glock22 lightweight & powerful pistol loaded with Remington HTP 180 recoil is nowhere near as bad as many people claim.
Do keep in mind, your priorities are different than those of the police. They’re actively looking for bad guys and are determined to apprehend them or kill them with no retreat. Bad guys know the difference, that if they turn and flee you are obligated to stop shooting. You’re trying to avoid bad guys. Unless you own an all-cash pot business or something else that makes you a high-value target, as soon as you show you’re not a soft target, in most cases they’ll be looking for a way out.
