I now have my wife watching your videos with me! We bought a 6 person dome tent and two sleeping bags this past week. I think I have talked her into going camping again after 15 years from the last time. Love your videos.
You are absolutely right about the cots. They make for such a better experience than air mattresses. Faster set up, no electricity needed, warmer and no worries about popping. Love my Coleman cot.
Is your Colman cot firm? I have bought several cots so far as they either sag or the cot shifts everytime I roll over. I want a cot that is hard like wood, with legs that don't shift under my (light) weight. I put a nice thick foamy on top.
Just stumbled on to your channel. I like your videos. I've watched a couple of them already. I'm 63 and my wife is __ and we still tent camp. Comfort is the name of the game. Keep up the videos.
Someone else may have already mentioned this, but you don't want your ground sheet (tarp) to extend beyond the outline of the tent. If it rains, rain will gather on the exposed edges of the ground sheet and run under the tent eventually soaking through the tent's "tub" and filling your tent with water.
Walmart and Amazon should pay you guys because all the items are all there, and are cheaper too. This makes camping affordable. Thanks for the great tips
Agreed. We have heard from people who have camped that they could not sleep on the ground ever again and would never go camping again. We just wanted to show people it does not have to be that way.
We have a 5-person tent for my family of four (The Eureka Chic-Choc 5). We sleep on insulated mattress from Big Agnes, and have MEC sleeping bags rated to 5 degrees Celsius. It's a great set-up for children!
My Boyfriend (Bryan) and I are always talking about camping, if we aren't talking about it, or actually camping, we are watching other people camp on RUclips! We like to say that we are "ate up with the camping!" I am so glad that I stumbled upon your channel! You two are the closest to our style of camping that we have found yet AND you call pieces of cedar, "Sniffing Sticks" as do we! Anytime we go camping, Bryan whittles us some sniffing sticks! Cedar really is the best ever smell and can transport you back to the campsite in an instant! Anyway, thanks for sharing your camping life with us!
I agree this channel camps like I like to camp ,and I love the smell of cedar sticks, how about pine duff after a rain shower another great smell, have a safe summer ATB ~ john
Campground head lamp tip: these blind everyone else, I suggest wearing it around your neck and it's much friendlier to other campers. Or if it must be on the head, some of them tilt, tilt it down.
my wife and I are well over 60's we tent camp almost same setup. our tent is canvas, they are alot more cooler in summer and warmer in winter. but are heavy. nice seeing tent campers enjoying less modern and a little more primitive some what. I think it makes camping alot more appreciated of what you have. and not relying on a flip of a switch
Thank you so much for watching!!! That is awesome that y’all still prefer to camp in a tent. It seems like everyone we know always evolves to the camper. Does the canvas take up a lot of room?
We’re going on our first camping trip next weekend and this video was very helpful! And this chunky girl would love your chili recipe!! It looked delicious 😋
We have the light/fan combo... I call it our redneck chandelier lol They are an absolute necessity for us... especially when camping with kids! Lessons learned along the way :) Thanks for all the tips!
This video makes me feel peaceful…dreaming of going out camping. I’m making plans on a trip to Big Bend National Park. I am wondering when the best time would be for a visit? For the dark sky photos at night…the winter. The enjoy the rest of nature…the spring. And, bringing my ham radio setup to operate for a little while!
I Camp with 2 tents I use one of them to store all my fishing gear and the other one I sleep in . I take a cot with me as well but it has a air mattress on it.I also take a shower Room/changing Room. Portable shower. Depending on how many people is coming I take an orning. With LED lights I also take several different type of Elie DE battery operated lights to Outline my campsite. In other words I take way too much sht. Thanks for your time
We already bought a new one. Now we have two just in case we need the extra. 😂 We will use a magic eraser on the old one and see how good it cleans up. Thanks for watching!
And make sure you use gloves when using the Mr. Clean erasers. They are known to contain carcinogens that cause cancer. I do use them anyway, but with the gloves.
Back to enjoy this video. The 6-person size looks great. I'd have one side, and a table with ham radio equipment would have the other side. I've found good reviews on a 6-person pop up tent, and it's the OT QOMOTOP tent. EDIT: My list is now around $600 for items to go camping. The parts and pieces add up quickly. I may have an opportunity in September, and likely in October, for a couple of nights away.
They have those little clip lights at my local Dollar Tree! I love them for camping. I have camping fever because camping season just started here in beautiful Kentucky so I have been on a camping video binge! Great video, thanks for sharing....you got a new subscriber!
My boyfriend and I recently discovered (admitted to ourselves) that a 2 person tent is too small for us. We both toss and turn and basically need to sprawl out, which a 2 person tent does not allow. Recently, I decided to start setting up the back of the hatchback as a bed while he gets the tent. While I like sleeping in a tent, I also like being warm (we are often camping above 8,000 feet so it gets cold at night even in the middle of summer).
You should totally do a real life 10min set up.. that would be really entertaining and also it would be in real time so would feel like we were there 😆
very nice set up... since you camp a lot have you ever considered putting a 100 watt solar panel on the top of your truck connected to a deep cycle battery at Walmart. Charge controllers and panels are real cheap on eBay. Then it can run you fan, lights and charge phones and laptops. It can also run an electric refrigerator so you don't need ice or heavy coolers.
Ask and thou shalt receive. I have a truck tent and needed to know what to take. You pretty much covered everything. I have a pop up privacy shelter and a luggable loo to do my business if there is no public restrooms and if there are people around. I'll need a table yet and Kelly when she's available. Love her cooking. : )
We check, and there are still out of stock on Kellies at Walmart and Amazon. 😂 Thank you so much for watching! If you have any other questions just let us know.
Try taking biodegradable bags and some wood pellets (pine) from a pet store and line the bag inside your loo about 2 inches with the pellets. 1. You will make less of a thunderous sound when you pee in the middle of the night near other tents. 2. The pine pellets greatly reduce smell and absorb the moisture. You can them discreetly dump bag in garbage instead of lugging the entire loo to the campground outhouse. Biodegradable bags important for thr environment. Also using the bags mean the plastic of your loo doesn't start to absorb the bad smells.
Love your video, im 53 and never gone camping but seriously thinking about start doing some camping, thank you I just subscribed to your channel so i can get more tips from ypu guys , thank you so much , by the way you have a beautiful hair, ( both of you lol ) but i do like hers better lol , thank you so much for the video , you’ll definitely got me a little more motivated now , 👍👍👍👍👍
Great video. Just sold my rv 2 days ago and stumbled upon your channel today. Oh nooooo!! Now I wanna tent it. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ You guys are adorable and very articulate and enthusiastic. 👍❤
I just sold the trailer I was scammed with a month ago. Dry rot and mold. Had to sell half price with full disclosure to handyman. It left yesterday and I am going back to tent camping. So much less hassle. No winterizing to do, no black tanks, no checking wheel bearings, no awkward backing up... And you can switch things out without breaking the bank.
My RVing friends always say I can't tent camp because I can't sleep on the ground , a nice cot is the best way to camp. Just like you I have a tent and two, newer design, army cots they are light and comfortable if I add a sleeping pad it's better than home, I sleep like a baby . Its better that they stay in the campground its quieter in the forest this way. I really enjoyed the video thanks for sharing
My husband and I like to sleep together on an air mattress on a platform with a double thermarest that makes it more stable. We have 12 man tent that is so roomy. We can put tables and chairs inside. We stay in places usually for more than one day. The tarp on the outside of the tent is a no no. If it rains the water goes between the tent an tarp there for getting everything on the floor wet.
Y’all’s setup sounds great. We normally roll our tarp under the tent when bad weather is coming, and unroll it when it not. Forgot to talk about that in this vlog. Planning on doing a updated one later on.
Omg!? Love the idea of the light Rope . My boyfriend and I do bike lights around our 🏕 . I do like the idea of your bedding. We do have a blow up mattress. But? For for some reason it Deflates lol. I think Bed Cots are a good idea I keep telling my boyfriend that he doesn’t listen to me LOL
Corina Almaguer Could have been. Now we have had slept on them without padding and did not like it, and Kellies first one was too small and she did not like it. But we have also met people who love hammock camping, and we are not big fans of those.
DOME LIFE Don’t know about Hamic ? I’m a side sleeper Adam is a back and side sleeper . Lol I would like to try cots ! And it has to be padded. I’ve been watching u-tube u need Comfort. Not saying Air mattress is not comforting but for some reason it does deflate lol I’m only been camping and backpacking for about six years and I do like new ideas new advice I’m still learning so it’s a good thing
Good tips. This summer we used my small old tent from the mid eighties. My partner thought that it was too cramped and uncomfortable. So I have now bought a new 5-person tent with full standing height and a small living room area. We have bought inflatable pads but I am also considering cots. Do you have any tips what to consider when selecting cots?
I love all your videos! Thank you so much for all the videos. I've used a lot of techniques Kellie uses to make food quick and simple. She seems like a wonderful person and Cody you are very awesome as well. Thanks for all the things you do! Keep up the wonderful work. :)
Love your style and choices. We are getting back into car camping and purchased the cots right away and now looking at the tent. Great tips! Now how to avoid mosquitoes!
So Jealous, you are so young and get to go so much. Have been watching your blog and really enjoy them. Im about three hours from the Ouachita's and would enjoy backwoods camping but she has to have a inside toilet and shower (so sad) A friend turned me onto putting a cotton Painters dropcloth on the floor of the tent. I tried that, then went to carpet. I probably over pack because we have a small truck and a 6x10 trailer we pack with everything including the kitchen drainer (haha) We do a lot of Dutch oven cooking and sleep in a 8 person tent. (love the space but hard to find flat space that large) Thanks for sharing your trips. Keep enjoying life. from a new viewer at 64 years young. Ps. Favorite spot is Wichita Mountains Refuge (where you can now make reservations)
Do you have a blog on what you would suggest if you fly somewhere and want to camp? I'm curious if I want to try to put it on in a large suitcase and pay $100 checked luggage fee, or if I just buy new stuff where I go. Renting is expensive.
Thank you for this video. As someone who is just getting into the camping thing, I am very interested in using the cot set up inside the tent. What issues have you run into as far as moisture/water goes with this set up?
I thought this was going to be a corny video, but I was wrong. Down to earth and good tips. The scenery with the stream was beautiful. Where was this location? The only thing that made me shutter was the leaves and copperheads. And, the COT is a must. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for watching! This was the north of the Flatside Wilderness in the Ouachita National Forest. Here was a vlog of the area the weekend we camped there. ruclips.net/video/dO5aMBtKL9A/видео.html
@@CodyandKellie The vlog you recommended was nice. You two seem like such nice and down to earth young people. So refreshing. You now have an OLD man as a new follower. I really enjoyed the peacefulness in your videos.
We are sorry about that. We have placed it on there now. Here is the link for you directly. Please let us know if you need anything else. The new tent fans: amzn.to/2NvM6EQ
agree with the air mattress, not so much it gets cold but the air slowly leaks out through the night. I now have a beautiful cot from LL Bean. (Only place I buy gear from ( ok occasionally from REI). But the tent we have is too small. So I am looking for a new bigger tent. Your cot is very similar to mine too with the bag which makes it so easy to carry. Great video and gave me some good ideas. Probably won't be able to camp this summer. I have cancer so I can't be too far from home just in case and I have to stay away from people, which camping is not that hard. thank you. I subscribed and will try to watch more of your video's
Best of wishes getting rid of the cancer. I had treatment for three years and I constantly envisioned getting the strength back to go camping again. Well I am now 5 yrs free of cancer and camping up a storm. May you be able to do the same. 🙏😊🌻🌻
I sleep on a cot, but I use a pool float air mattress instead of the egg foam. I'm just as comfortable and once its deflated it takes up wayyyy less room. Might want to try that
Just found your channel looking for tips on efficient car camping. We recently moved to NWA and can’t believe the awesome outdoor opportunities, so glad to see some fellow Arkansans documenting their journeys of this amazing state. What is your favorite place to camp in NWA?
Nice ads!! ✌🏻 Nice set up! y’all have done this a few times!! i remember before my 6 man tent. sure was nice being able to fully stand up while living in a tent for months at a time. lol 😂
just curious... how much room do you have between the ends of the cots and the tent walls? I see Alps makes a 5 person an d 6 person. The 5 person is 8x10 and just wondering if the slope of the tent would cause the ends of the cot to rub up against the tent wall. Great content! Keep it up!
Go with the 6 person tent. We scoot our cots together and there is room on the sides for bags and other stuff. You can walk on the sides but not straight up because of the slant on the dome.
Thank you for watching! We have several reason we chose to go this route. First the brand that we got are slim and take up less space in the vehicle. Second we are on unlevel ground most of the time, and it’s easier to level out each one instead of one large one. Third, when we want to change in the tent, we can push each one to the sides and have full height of the tent to stand in the center. We do push them together when we get ready for bed. The large ones still have the bar in the middle, so it’s about the same once we push them together. If you watch our Camping in New Orleans vlog and fast forward to 9min and 15sec, you can see what it looks like when our coats are pushed together. ruclips.net/video/Gzz3EJHc2Yk/видео.html The crates going over the edge bars almost makes it feel like a regular queen size bed when they are pushed together. If you ever have any other questions please feel free to ask!
Sorry we are just answering. This one got past us. We use a RIO Adventure. Got it at Walmart, but they were not there the last time we stoped by there.
Great channel, useful tips that are real!. And yes would like the link to the tent set up as when my husband and I did it, it was wonky mostly the rain fly. I have the Alps but for 4 peeps. And also how did you guys set up the tarp? I saw it in a few of your videos. You guys are awesome.. love the energy! New sub!
Thank you so much for your kind words and watching! We lay it down on the ground first then place the tent over it. If we expect rain we roll it under the tent. Here is a video we have done about setting up our tent. ruclips.net/video/Xb27Zaf4itA/видео.html
The tarp does need to be folded under the tent completely so you can hardly see it from the outside. Otherwise rain or heavy dew will soak the bottom of the tent.
Nice video! I may try a folding cot, i have been using an air mattress. It does get cold at ground level. How long does the fan run on a set of batteries?
DOME LIFE i am going to get one of these for sure. Thank you for stressing pack in/pack out for peoples trash. I have seen it in a few of your videos, glad you put that out there. I hate seeing trash in a fire ring, just poisons the next camper’s marshmallows.
I now have my wife watching your videos with me! We bought a 6 person dome tent and two sleeping bags this past week. I think I have talked her into going camping again after 15 years from the last time. Love your videos.
BREATHTAKING footage...the sunset brought tears to my eyes...GREETINGS FROM OCEAN SHORES, WA...up the coast from y'all!!!

A tip on the cots is buy the round or square floor protectors used under furniture legs. Put the under your cot legs to protect the tent floor.
Good idea! Thanks for watching!
i put small carpet squares uderneath the cot
or some cheap frisbees
Pot holders from the dollar store work well too
That's a great tip! Most of us would have realized the need for that prevention after the damage was done. Thank you.
You are absolutely right about the cots. They make for such a better experience than air mattresses. Faster set up, no electricity needed, warmer and no worries about popping. Love my Coleman cot.
Thanks for watching!
Is your Colman cot firm? I have bought several cots so far as they either sag or the cot shifts everytime I roll over. I want a cot that is hard like wood, with legs that don't shift under my (light) weight. I put a nice thick foamy on top.

Thank you for the kind words!
You are explaining so well I just subscribed ☺️
Thanks for subscribing
Nice setup guys, looks like a good time!
Thank you
I'd be buying a plastic table cloth if the table is still working fine !Why spend big when you don't have to? Thanks for the cot tips!
Love your style and choices. We are getting back into car camping and purchased the cots right away and now looking at the tent. Great tips! Now how to avoid mosquitoes!
Fires help with the mosquitos and I make a homemade essential oil spray that works. Thanks for watching!
DOME LIFE can you please share the recipe for the homemade repellent. Thank you for the video!
Very good advice
Always carry a huge mattress bag. You can use it under a tent or as a super shelter front.
I just found your channel!

Thanks for watching! We need to get back to Wichita area.
very informative, you two are amazing
Thank you
Awesome video, your my kind of folks.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful!
Great video dear Domelifers! Thanks a lot for the tips. Keep'em coming... see ya!
Your welcome. Thank you so much for watching!
Do you have a blog on what you would suggest if you fly somewhere and want to camp? I'm curious if I want to try to put it on in a large suitcase and pay $100 checked luggage fee, or if I just buy new stuff where I go. Renting is expensive.
Hey guys... love the set up! I bet that water is so peaceful!! TFS!!happy Wednesday!!~ Kim
The water was peaceful for sure. Thank you for watching!
I’m seeing this a year later, but really good information.
thanks for the video! was so helpful!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video. As someone who is just getting into the camping thing, I am very interested in using the cot set up inside the tent. What issues have you run into as far as moisture/water goes with this set up?
Our tents have no leaks. The cots get wet so we just remove all bedding and let them air dry before packing them away
Lovely! Enjoy Camping...
Thanks for watching!
Great job.
Enjoyed the video, do you folks have any tips on free camping?
National forest and BLM land
good setup but if I may add - good canopy is the must, I am using Coleman 13x13. This way rain/sun will not bother you
Truth! Funny you say that, we have a 10x10 Ozark Trail brand. Love it and completely understand where your coming from!
I have that same tent from my ground camping days, lol. It's a pretty decent tent.
It’s a really great tent! Thank you for watching!!!
Hi, Would you repost the link to the fan? I don't see it. Great video! Thank you.
We are sorry about that. We have placed it on there now. Here is the link for you directly. Please let us know if you need anything else.

agree with the air mattress, not so much it gets cold but the air slowly leaks out through the night.
Thanks for watching and subscribing! We will keep you in our prayers. Take care.
Might want to try that
Good idea! We have a few inflatable mattress we might try! Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel looking for tips on efficient car camping. We recently moved to NWA and can’t believe the awesome outdoor opportunities, so glad to see some fellow Arkansans documenting their journeys of this amazing state. What is your favorite place to camp in NWA?
Devils Den state park is awesome.
@@CodyandKellie Thanks. Do you have a video of your adventures there.
Great vid guys. Cheers
Thank you
Nice ads!! ✌🏻
Nice set up! y’all have done this a few times!!
i remember before my 6 man tent. sure was nice being able to fully stand up while living in a tent for months at a time. lol 😂
Thanks for watching man! Yeah Kellie was the one that pointed out the standing up part. I’m so happy she did. Thanks for watching!
just curious... how much room do you have between the ends of the cots and the tent walls? I see Alps makes a 5 person an d 6 person. The 5 person is 8x10 and just wondering if the slope of the tent would cause the ends of the cot to rub up against the tent wall. Great content! Keep it up!
Go with the 6 person tent. We scoot our cots together and there is room on the sides for bags and other stuff. You can walk on the sides but not straight up because of the slant on the dome.
@@CodyandKellie I appreciate it. I actually ordered the 6 person last night and am looking forward to using in the near future.
Great video and set up! Where did you get the light/fan combo for the tent?
Amazon. We posted a link below the description. Thanks for watching!
DOME LIFE Found it after I commented. Great video!
I sent this video to my boyfriend. He loves the fan ! Where did u get that?
There should be a link at the bottom for amazon. We did upgrade the fans. The new ones are rechargeable and much stronger.
Great setup 👍
Thank you!
Great video thanks for sharing:)
Thanks for watching!
Love your Videos. Any good sites you can recommend for finding some of the good dirt roads for camping and also Gravel riding.
Sure thing. Just let us know an area you are interested in going to
Hi just curious why you chose to buy 2 separate cots vs a queen for the 2 of you to share. We are trying to decide which one to buy.
If you watch our Camping in New Orleans vlog and fast forward to 9min and 15sec, you can see what it looks like when our coats are pushed together. ruclips.net/video/Gzz3EJHc2Yk/видео.html
The crates going over the edge bars almost makes it feel like a regular queen size bed when they are pushed together. If you ever have any other questions please feel free to ask!
Thanks so much!
@@CodyandKellie What brand cots do you use?
@@jenniferhardie9803 I'm interest to know please
Sorry we are just answering. This one got past us. We use a RIO Adventure. Got it at Walmart, but they were not there the last time we stoped by there.
Best video
Hello guys , which brand of cot is that, thanks?
here is a link to the cot we have

DOME LIFE thank you so much, god bless 👍👍👍
@@elcairo11 your welcome and god bless you as well.
You should do a video of meals to cook while camping ? 🏕
Yes! We have a few. We do need to catch up. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I think those fans run for at lest 40hrs of use.
DOME LIFE i am going to get one of these for sure. Thank you for stressing pack in/pack out for peoples trash. I have seen it in a few of your videos, glad you put that out there. I hate seeing trash in a fire ring, just poisons the next camper’s marshmallows.
@@CodyandKellie Hi, What brand is that fan?
Been waiting for this video! Great set up!
Thank you! It’s been a big request from many people. Thought we would get it out there.
