You're totally right. Ever since 2001 Mariah struggles with self confidence. It got really bad after she was forced to apologize for a little fail she made on Michael Jackson's funeral AND the 2016 new years eve fiasco. She ALWAYS shines outside the US cause her own home country do not respect and support her.
@@andresizarra2312 so??? She was emotional. It was HER DEAR FRIEND WHO WAS DEAD IN FRONT OF HER. It was a little crack in the beginning. The midia and the public made a big deal of it.
You have to understand that Mariah Carey has bipolar disorder she’s been had that for a very long time and also when she had that break down she was very exhausted from being of worked because she was at it nonstop. I remember reading she was praying and ask God to give her her voice back. So in 2005 she was back but I guess she hadn’t recorded or sung I. A while after glitter because she put her everything into it he was released on 9/11 no one knew what was gonna happen that day after that things changed for her The industry had written her off but she came back stronger than ever just as she is today amazing
Mariah's number one issue will ALWAYS be not trusting herself with the notes/being tense. Since she was at the top, every single time she's made a mistake on stage the media has mocked her relentlessly. Because of this she's TERRIFIED of messing up even a tiny bit - so even now that her voice is back on track (obviously not as perfect as when she was in her 20s but that's to be expected) she's still constantly tense and holding back. Performances like the one she just had at the Royal Albert where she was just having fun prove she's still got it.
It's even more mundane than that. Mariah has such a jam packed schedule that she doesn't have enough time to break in between performances, so she tries to go on vocal rest until the show. When she first goes on stage - she's not fully vocally warmed up yet so she's unsure of her sound.
Exactly. This is why she soars on tour but holds back during live tv performances. She’s comfortable in front of her fans but not as comfortable in front of the critics. I absolutely love Mariah and even on her bad day, she sounds better than 70% of the people in the industry today.
Fly Like A Bird is her tribute to God, who gave her such a precious gift: The Voice. That's why in the song she shown up many things her voice can do: belting, vibrato, riffs and runs from low to high, growling, up-scaling, cresendo, especially whistle, which is also her signature, not to mention crazy transition from chest-head-whistle, phrasing in whistle and much more. All hail the Songbird Supreme The Queen Mariah Carey
As a die-hard Mariah fan, I completely agree with everything you said. Mariah is so keen on not making a mistake, and she gets nervous almost and it's unfortunate. The media really destroyed her confidence
Fly Like a bird is one of the hardest song especially Live. She nailed it live.😭😭😭 I grew up listening to her. And for me, she has proven herself for the past years. She is a living Legend. P.S she set the standard for whistle register.
@@lealeak7458 Chante Moore is fantastic, but she is not famous, thus not very influential and Minnie Ripperton sang in flageolet, not in disconnected whistle, but of course that's just a detail. Mariah was inspired to explore singing above the high C by Minnie Ripperton and Lisa Fischer (classically trained, exclusively super head voice), she mastered whistle register to perfection, she manipulates the texture, sings runs so fast, they need to be slowed down to catch all the notes, sang insane staccati and has been using it artistically for nearly 30 years in so many different ways creating a completely different style, nothing like Minnie Ripperton's fabulous, psychedelic ways. Overall, people who venture into these territories are 99 times out of 100 inspired by Mariah nowadays and by Minnie in the past.
I have always thought she got more comfortable here when the choir came in. She was able to let it get to go to church and focus on her emotions more instead of on her performance, and she really flew!
You missed the most important part here: She was partially lipping in this performance like she always does. And before you lamb's start going bollocks over my "true" statement, I'll give a simple explanation. Mariah was singing the low parts live but lipping all the difficult parts except the last note on WBT which was live (and strained). This perfectly explains why her voice sounds restricted and forced on the easier notes and then on the impressive high belts her voice soars with ease resonance and sound like a different person singing really. Tara tried to explain this by saying that Mariah is just at home with the high notes, but that's false. The last note of WBT was also a high note, yet why did she struggle so much on that note (which Tara immediately noticed but she's unaware of the fact that Mariah is lipping most of the high notes). There's actually a video of this performance with her live mic feed which shows exactly which parts she lipped. And not surprisingly at all, all the parts which Tara liked were lipped 🤔
@@Zarumaans I thought they don't allow people to lip on the Grammys tho. Mariah's voice is also a really special case and inconsistent, so we shouldn't waste time on speculating if it's real or not.
@@Waterwraight That is not true at all. There have been plenty of lipped performances in the Grammys, the most famous one would be Milli Vanilli and just recently Cardi B. I'm a pretty big Mariah fan but also very realistic, so I know very well which parts she lips and which parts she sings live. I'm just merely pointing out the facts, I don't have a problem with her lip syncing, although I would really prefer her to sing live :)

We belong together was a "fan service", the part of #1 songs that She has to deliver so that everyone happy. But Fly like a bird is her personal favorite. The one that She get to choose and show herself of what She's made of. In a lot of interview She stated this. It's the middle ground of performing for her fans (the #1 sies) and her own favorite.
everytime she sings gospel she’s HOME her natura habitat! that what she mentioned in one of her interviews!! love this video of her always makes me cry
I understand with Mariah...she made albums so exceptional! I have songs from her completely and filed at my music bundled in my room! The most important that she is legend at all times! Shes a successfull singer in the world despite traumatic experiences in her life! Thumbs up with and i loved her much! Thanks for featuring her. I am a filipino fan of her!
FINALLYYY!! A Mariah Carey reaction!!! I’ve been waiting for this for the longest LONGEST time!! Lol not the ones that I had requested months and months ago hehe but a Mariah Carey reaction nonetheless!!THANK YOU SO MUCH! I hope you continue reviewing some of her life performances at some point! Like Vanishing SNL, or if it’s over Grammy performance I believe it is, among others. Anyways, it is always a pleasure to hear what you have to say about the people you react to, and I will continue to enjoy your reactions and your advices. Thank you again 😊
I wish she would get the nodules removed tho :( she nailed it, but it's sad to see that she's losing confidence due the nodules... But oh well, she's truly amazing!
Imagine what it must be like to perform live and the expectation is perfection. Singers place incredible stress and strain on their vocal chords and it doesn’t get easier with age.
THIS WOMAN HERE almost made me sling my iPad across the room! You can tell when she took that pause in Fly Like Bird; she said okay “here is where you will understand why they call the wind Mariah!” I definitely agree the choir put her into another zone totally!!! Once she felt that power behind her, she led them and the audience on into Glory where they were able to get out and do business with the Master!
@@rhondaherbert9282 Yes mariah popularized pop and rap collabs . Critics and even other artists know and acknowledge this and she inspired a whole breed of singers who are on top today including kelly clarkson , jojo , beyonce , christina , ariana grande and soo much more .
She clearly was more confident and comfortable when she did Fly Like A Bird with the introduction of the choir. Loveeeeeeee your videos and all the analysis.
I LOVE Mariah Carey, I cant wait to see more Mariah reactions. But I think doing some of her 90’s performances, particularly 1996 and before would be best. I’d love to hear commentary on that.
Yes!!!100%AGREED to that Mariahs breathing technique IS PHENOMENAL since her debut till now And i mean when is LIVE PERF.!!!📺GOOD MORNING AMERICA in new york is always live NO DOUBT!!and too is GRAMMYS!!!THEY DONT ALLOW FAKE VOCALS!!! Dude!!!you listening????
You know I can't imagine what it's like to be Mariah and be expected to sing at her ridiculously high level every night in concert or really anywhere she goes. I've been to enough concerts to know that pretty much no singer can perform at their highest levels everytime. It just isn't going to happen. Truth is, very few singers are really in her league when it comes to overall range and power.
I love hearing Tara's comment. Mariah second song Fly like a birth was AMAZING. Its as if she allowed the Lord and the angels take over her vocals and from there it became glorious
I feel when she closes her eyes right before the climax of Fly like a bird she's saying "Lord hold me tight, I'm about to transport an entire audience to your presence and I need you right here by my side"
It’s common knowledge that ‘huge’ voices experience voice damage in later years due to aging and overuse of the vocal chords; there is an obvious difference in the strength of their voices in their 20s/30s vs. their late 40s/50s and beyond. Just two examples of this: Patty Labelle and Julie Andrews. Mariah is a legend and people need to stop trying to tear her down and minimizing her remarkable career. There’s something seriously wrong with the characters of those who take great pleasure in ripping other human beings apart.
Absolutely agree. When I saw in 2002, she was still comfortable vocally. Now I really sit on the edge of my seat as she sings because I’m unsure if she’ll make it through the song. She is the reason I sing & it’s a shame, but she still has a beautiful lower register that I hope she makes more light of in the future if she continues to perform & record. X
“Double tone sound that she has in the top.” This! Can anyone explain this to me more. What happens in Mariah’s high belts!? Like .. at a very specific note, her voice takes on such a unique quality.
it’s called a polyphonic note. since mariah has nodules (basically bumps on her vocal chords), her vocal chords don’t close properly when they should. since they don’t close properly, it comes with side effects with one of them being that sometimes when the nodules act up (like on this performance) she can produce two sounds at once. they are more prominent in her whistle notes (as her ability to do whistle notes greatly comes from her nodules also)
If people are expect “perfection notes” they don’t will have top singers , because is not just about notes , is more than this , storytelling - feelings - interpretation….. in this both cases , Mariah is UNIQUE AND SO PERFECT most of the times
I can’t help but to smile whenever i watch this performance of Fly Like a Bird, I just feel like there’s no negativity left in the world. Idk, it’s a whole spiritual experience for me
you know whaaaaat!!! your reviews be on point, i’m not a couch but a singer and a lot of what you said is exactly what I felt all the way through. So glad you’re unbiased
Huge fan of Mariah especially her high notes! I pray she continues to take care of her voice, she’s one of the best out of all the rest. Waiting on a Whitney Houston song for you to react 🖤
The moment when she closed her eyes and exhaled....and taking a breath after before she sang "With God's love, you'll survive..." ......It felt like she was literally possessed by something. After that moment, she just became something else altogether. She flew like a bird thereafter.
I just want to know out of all Mariah’s performances why did the lambs pick this one over her better ones like “anytime you need a friend “ Tokyo dome or if it’s over lol

Jonas Jonsson are you talking to me or to the person above me because I never debated the fact that some of it was lipped. The lambs at least the true ones will know what’s lipped or not. I was simply saying to the lambs that there were wayyy better performances than this one. I’ve studied musical theory so I didn’t need a lesson but thanks
Jonas Jonsson okay I’m sorry for the little tangent then lol. That’s why I was saying why this one whomever requested this. Even her more recent concerts were better than this. I would have preferably picked one of her best. Sometimes I just don’t understand what my fellow lambs are thinking lol. I’m a realist her voice has definitely declined. I think that the problem is that a lot of her older songs have these iconic bridges that people want to hear in the original key and it’s taking some adjusting for her, but yes I abhorred this performance and others during this era.
I think most people now just know Mariah in her We Belong Together Era and down. They gotta witness how her performances back in the day during her prime and early in her career. She was a vocal beast ; reason why she IS THE MARIAH CAREY now and one of the vocal trinities. Check out her videos out during the early 90's. It's all on YT.
React to Mariah Carey One sweet day ft boys 2 men 1995 Madison square garden. It’s the song of the decade and longest running number one song of all time. She did amazing !!
I remember people saying her career was over and that she was done for at the time of this performance. It’s sad to see people criticizing her so relentlessly, and even more disappointing to see it absolutely destroying her confidence. Respect to a legend
I like when some “experts singers” criticize every single note on someone like MC , and say “she cannot do it her , she don’t Gad the right tone” haha 😂 MC is probably the most constant vocalist perfectionist technique ever ! Her brith control is FENOMENAL , her felling quality interpretation is MASTER and as a songwriter person is UNBELIEVABLE …. 👸🏼

The one that She get to choose and show herself of what She's made of. In a lot of interview She stated this. It's the middle ground of performing for her fans (the #1 sies) and her own favorite.
Hi Tara, you should definitely react to Hero at Tokyo Dome (1996). Its an awesome performance
Yesss!!!!
Yes I’d love to hear an analysis of that!!
Jonathan V. MSG 1995>>>

Julia Schulz divas live was better tho
everytime she sings gospel she’s HOME her natura habitat! that what she mentioned in one of her interviews!!
love this video of her always makes me cry
Omg if you’re starting to watch Mariah, can you please watch Vanishing SNL Rehearsal?
Veggie Kevin you’re confusing Vanishing with If It’s Over. And you’re confusing “rehearsal” with an actual SNL performance.
Yes!!!!! So amazing
I love Vanishing😍
Yessssss !!!!
Yes!

Honestly, I feel like when the pastor started speaking, she was able to clear her throat and send us into the clouds! Such a great performance overall
She was stressed, overtime she lost confidence due to the nodules on her vocal chords.
She just had bad and good day. Dhe nailed this performance at last
I wish she would get the nodules removed tho :( she nailed it, but it's sad to see that she's losing confidence due the nodules... But oh well, she's truly amazing!
Imagine what it must be like to perform live and the expectation is perfection. Singers place incredible stress and strain on their vocal chords and it doesn’t get easier with age.
@@qlimax95 If she removes her nodules there is 99.9% chance she will completely lose her singing voice, so we should try to be satisfied with this
She said that her nodules are responsible why she can sing high notes. Especially whistle notes.
No matter what ever anyone says about MC, she inspired and imo created a whole new genre of music
Ya kidding right...she aint doing nothing new...in fact she copies a lot of older rnb singers
Fact! She's literally the first to create singing mixed with rap
@@elliswalton92 not true...obviously you dont know much about music
@@rhondaherbert9282 Yes mariah popularized pop and rap collabs .

She clearly was more confident and comfortable when she did Fly Like A Bird with the introduction of the choir. Loveeeeeeee your videos and all the analysis.
Please more reactions of the Vocal Trinity: Mariah, Whitney, and Celine!
Celine? I love her but no.
George Kenny Celine is part of the vocal Trinity ain’t no “no” sis
No, it should be Mariah, Ariana and Christina
It definitely shouldn’t. Whitney & Celine and Mariah ICONIC FOREVER
I believe in the Quintet: Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Christina, and Ariana
She is an amazing singer of course so much singing will make your voice not sound the same but she will always be a legend
One of the hardest climax ever
She always soars prosperously with her faith and gospel songs.
I always get so choked up when I hear her sing. There's just a pining-type of emotion that I hear when she belts. Anyone else?
Two of my favorite song of her ... Melt me down every time I rewatch!!
That was my late Bishop, Bishop Clarence Keaton Jr who said the opening to Fly Like a Bird, fun fact
You are so right, the higher she gets, the more at home she feels. She looks and sounds like she's thinking about the notes on the lower register.
She's struggling with high register nowadays and more comfortable with lower register
@@ralphanthonymallillin2712 that’s called aging ofc.
I LOVE Mariah Carey, I cant wait to see more Mariah reactions. But I think doing some of her 90’s performances, particularly 1996 and before would be best. I’d love to hear commentary on that.
SajSays same !

QUEEN !
I’m so happy you reacted to Mariah Carey 😍 Could you please react to Mariah Carey If It’s Over, at the Grammys 🙏
You know I can't imagine what it's like to be Mariah and be expected to sing at her ridiculously high level every night in concert or really anywhere she goes. I've been to enough concerts to know that pretty much no singer can perform at their highest levels everytime. It just isn't going to happen. Truth is, very few singers are really in her league when it comes to overall range and power.
yessss that part at the end was soooooo fulfilling! omg my heart is racing!
React to Mariah Carey's "Vanishing" rehearsal at SNL 1990 please💙
yes please!!!!!
SNL rehearsal "Vanishing"...never heard anything like it. EVERYONE should hear this. I can't stop watching!
That video is what made me a Mariah fan.
She became a different woman singing fly like a bird… it’s that choir behind her!!! Singing about Jesus!!! Such confidence… the GOAT
Tara I love how you really listen to the subscribers and do the video we really wanna hear from you 🤗. This was so interesting.
Like .. at a very specific note, her voice takes on such a unique quality.
it’s called a polyphonic note. since mariah has nodules (basically bumps on her vocal chords), her vocal chords don’t close properly when they should. since they don’t close properly, it comes with side effects with one of them being that sometimes when the nodules act up (like on this performance) she can produce two sounds at once. they are more prominent in her whistle notes (as her ability to do whistle notes greatly comes from her nodules also)
Thank you!
She came bacc on that second song 😩😩😩🙏🏽😁🔥
REACT TO MORE MARIAHH PLEASEEEE
Ten years!!! I still got chill when I saw this performance. She is a legend.
MARIAH CAREY QUEEN THE QUEENS!!! :D I Love you. Saludos desde Chile.
JUST FENOMENAL!!! Legendary
If people are expect “perfection notes” they don’t will have top singers , because is not just about notes , is more than this , storytelling - feelings - interpretation….. in this both cases , Mariah is UNIQUE AND SO PERFECT most of the times
Mariah Carey's Fly Like a Bird climax is so legendary 👍 💖💗🇺🇸💓
React to prime mariah or even her recent caution tour performances, she was amazing!
6:22 you can see the confidence in her face. Nice job baby girl. 💝
You NEED to react to Mariah in Madison Square Garden, like any song from that concert.
Yhe church choir will always get you in your emotions when you sing..she grew up in the church and it shows.
Yeah she was a bit shaky in the first part because she was warming up but at the end of fly like a bird she obliterated every wig! 🙆♂️
This performance always gives me life. Even with its roughness in a few spots after 15 years of singing...IT. IS. LEGENDARY.
Please!!! More Mariah! The Legend of Beyond Vocals 👑😍 #L4L
Fly like a bird 🐦 has to literally be the most angelic sounding song ever
It brings me to tears

She’s a student of vocals and has such a positive vibe…love you Tara
This one is amazing. She has many amazing performances outside of the 90’s
@@dm3889 It was actually for the guy above me, but nice to hear that you agree :)
Respect to a legend
honesty is the best policy
I like when some “experts singers” criticize every single note on someone like MC , and say “she cannot do it her , she don’t Gad the right tone” haha 😂
MC is probably the most constant vocalist perfectionist technique ever ! Her brith control is FENOMENAL , her felling quality interpretation is MASTER and as a songwriter person is UNBELIEVABLE …. 👸🏼
Mariah was possessed by the holy spirit towards the end of that performance
