Permobil are ultimately a Swedish company and this was made in Sweden by presumably Swedish post-graduate students or Permobil employees. While it's everything I want in a power chair, you can get the X850 in the US but need to look at other options in the meantime. I doubt Permobil would bring this to market as the exposed motors and suchlike are a risk in a retail product. Even if you say you won't warrant damage to them, some users will give a product negative feedback when it breaks in ways it's not meant to survive.
