  • Zyn suffered an injury to his left eye on March 1st that forced it to be removed, leaving him blind. This is a short video about his first ride after losing his eye. Please follow along with me while I document Zyn's recovery and progression of learning how to be himself again, as well as my own education and improvement as a rider. Zyn is doing wonderfully and adapting well, and I am learning so much.

Hey guys, sorry this is a little late, you may have seen a few more rides on Instagram by now, his stitches are out, he’s healed up and we have even gone over a few small jumps, but not jumping regularly. Working on an Ep2 to get caught up!

Zoe, I am a new follower but want to tell you about a highly bred dressage horse i saw at a big show on Vancouver Island several years ago. This beautiful horse had been in a tragic trailer wreck and is now blind. He was ridden in an upper level free style dressage class and acquitted himself well. His owner had trained him with love. People thought the horse was gone. There was not a dry eye in the house when the audience saw what he had achieved from absolute devastation with the love of his owner.
I can see that this horse has that same support from you! Best wishes from Texas for your journey together!!

Endo the Blind. He’s an Appaloosa Gelding who suffered from “moon blindness,” ultimately ended up having both eyes removed. He and his rider have done some amazing things. I believe he has a Facebook page and Insta.

I’m so proud of Zyn for trying so hard on his first ride back!! Good boy buddy. I can’t imagine how you feel after seeing him go through surgery and all of that. It’s an emotional rollercoaster for sure. Just keep in mind, his flaws are what make Zyn Special. Keep pushing him to be the best he can be. I was born with Cerebral Palsy and my family never stopped pushing me, I’m still riding after 27 years with horses. Zyn might surprise you with his talent!

Looks like he was just a little frustrated but tried really hard! I think he will adapt better than u think. I know several horses that have had one eye removed or gone blind and they recover like a champ. Im sure hes just getting used to his new view on life and retraining his brain.

I know this is an older video but I just wanted to say I used to have a horse that was COMPLETELY blind in her right eye, (she got a stick through it at age 9) yes she had a weird divot in her eye and she would take an extra minute to observe the world around her but she was one of the best horses I ever had. I understand the sadness of the physical flaw but if he’s happy and healthy it shouldn’t impact him or his potential too much. ❤️

I just found this channel and this was my first introduction to it. I don't know you and I don't know Zyn, but I did just want to touch on a few things that you said and a few things that I saw while watching. No hate or anger! Nothing but respect here!:
1.) Please don't feel badly for your emotions about losing his eye. It's not "shallow", it is fearing about what his future is going to look like now that he has a disability that will always be with him. We worry about our "babies".
2.) Please get in contact with your vet immediately. It is not a "it is what it is" scenario! They did something without consulting you and in the event that something happens, you have every right to voice that that isn't what you wanted in the first place!
3.) I can see that when you had him with his good eye towards the fence, much of his initial "jumpiness" came from him losing vision of the other people in the arena and then getting them in his sight again.
4.) Give your horse more credit! I know how easy it is to think of the negatives... but I think you're missing the fact that he's already learning an adaptive function! When you have his bad eye to the fence, he can see the corner coming and he's throwing his leg out on his "bad" side to check and make sure that he doesn't run into it! Smart!
I truly think that his future will be good! It's just going to take some time for him to re-envision (if you will) the world around him and to put more faith and trust in you as his leader and rider. It will take time, but I imagine that it will happen far quicker than you realize if you continue forward in giving him the life that he has always lived. Slow and steady, but you will get there!

The horse I used to ride (as I commented on another video), she lost her eye due to what we think was that she did something in a paddock. Her owner tried for about a month with meds, and in the end, they found they needed to remove it and she found that felt so much better. By the time I was riding her, she had "retired" (she was 24) from we think eventing. We did Hunters together and she loved every min of it. I had found that it was best that I talked to her about everything I was doing, showed her everything that I was using on her (grooming and tacking up), and just like you said it was better if I did everything from the side that she had an eye.

Good for you for doing what’s best for him! I had a horse with uveitis, and came to know a lot of fellow equestrians that had horses with it. I know how hard the decision to remove the eye was for you. Horses do a phenomenal job adapting to one eye, but it is hard as the horse mom to cope with it. You are definitely not alone in feeling that way!

    Such a pretty Boy :)
As my extended family actually has two horses with one blind eye each, I wouldn't worry too much about it changing his live too much. It's all about giving them the time to adjust and showing them that, basicly nothing really changed.
The only thing I really noticed is the tendency to tilt their heads slightly to give them a bigger field of vision in the remaining eye, which can have an impact in the muscle build, so I guess that could be something to keep in mind for his training.
Please excuse any spelling/grammer errors I haven't really written anything in english for a long time and my brother is stressing me to go out and clean the stable, so yeah ...
I wish you the best! And at least you get an new experience out of it. ...

i think my horse is one in a million, because she was rescued from a kill shelter and is one eyed. animals are family, friends, living beings, not property. not for show, despite the industry of showing. i enjoy the beauty of horses as well, but hope you worked through feeling ashamed about your horse having one eye. i respect your opinion on the prosthetic!

    • @tallulahwonders2816
      @tallulahwonders2816 2 года назад

and honestly for a horse to have one eye and be able to do and perform the same or better than a fully equipped horse..is even more amazing in my opinion! and for social/superficial purposes just mentioning “one eyed horse” on your youtube videos with Zyn probably brings attention because it is interesting. so in a way even if you do care about the “flawed” look he has, your videos probably get more attention (i imagine, don’t know didn’t check stats. just sharing my point of view!)
