    Please do a lot of research about hoofboots cause there is a crazy amount of them on the market! Cavallo's are generally okay boots, but I do know people who lost them often (even when sized properly) and due to them coming up quite high they could rub the pastern. That's why they sell extra pastern wraps to prevent the friction. Other really nice brands are Renegade, Evo Boot and Scoot Boots. Personally I would check those last three out. Their design is more anatomically adapted and they're also developed for longer trails/endurance making them very durable.
    Also, you can only measure the hoof properly if they have been trimmed very recently, or just after a trim. That is the ideal size.
    I'd recommend you checking out different reviews where they compare several brands or youtube videos :) This one is very good imo! ruclips.net/video/_zwaM-_WbrQ/видео.html

      I agree. They’re decent boot but I’ve been with people on a hack several times, and their horses have lost the shoes. One lost during a canter, another lost in a pond while cooling off.

    • @melbowell5601
      @melbowell5601 5 лет назад +1

      DayByDay Vlogs very sensible advice. I’d get some ASAP so you can at least try them on him before your camping trip ( ideally you’d already have got them), it might be quite a big ask to expect him to wear them for a longish period of time and over several days if he’s never worn them before and could cause problems from rubbing etc. I know you don’t want to have to shoe him unnecessarily and not sure if he’s even been shod before, or always been barefoot? What does your farrier think and Fionna?

    • @Kaatastrophe
      @Kaatastrophe 5 лет назад +2

      @@melbowell5601 Honestly wouldn't but a shoe on him if he doesn't need it. If they want to keep him barefoot for the future, putting a shoe on is setting a step back. The hoof will need time to get back to its shape. I find it interesting how some horses are so sensitive on trails. I've ridden quite some kilometers on rough terrain, barefoot. Have been so fortunate to have never needed any sort of hoofprotection as they are so strong. Non of my horses were ever shoed though. Anyways, I do agree with you that time is running out. With hoof boots, you need to have the time to do some testing indeed. See it as a leather shoe or boot that needs some walking in. If, you indeed want to keep him barefoot, don't have time for hoofboots then a good alternative option might be a plastic horseshoe. Those are simply glued on to the hoof and can be removed anytime. It is less invasive than shoes too, but you do need to find a farrier who can apply them well.

    • @melbowell5601
      @melbowell5601 5 лет назад +1

      Jackylovertjex yes, if he really doesn’t need shoes then would be a shame to get him shod just for this and if he’s not used to that either.... you’re right about the plastic shoes too, need a farrier who’s able to put them on correctly. As you say, he might be fine without shoes, depending on his feet and in some respects I can’t imagine Sophia wanting to go on anything too difficult and for too long, but you never know and I guess there’s other people that could ride him if they swop around horses. Just need to get it sorted 😊

    I am an endurance rider and we use the easyboots a lot in the endurance world. For endurance the most used horse is an Arabian. The easyboots are specifically designed for an Arabian’s foot. So using the easyboots would be a 50/50 percent of working, but it all depends on the horses foot. Easyboots are a little on the pricey side so I would recommend seeing if you could borrow someone else boot first before buying them. Just giving an idea of what the boots are like.❤️

I had a VERY stressful show weekend, and It ended with the owners of the horse I lease(ed) ending my lease because they aren’t loyal ppl. It’s a very long Story, but I’m super disappointed because my last show of the year, trillium Championships is in 2 weeks and I had qualified. Now I don’t get to show and represent my zone because of a group of disloyal people.. I feel terrible even tho what transpired this weekend had nothing to do with me. For a semi-permanent fence you best bed is t-posts and braid or tape electric fence.. I've moved farms myself with this set-up. Use the tractor bucket to push the t-post into the ground for faster installation. You can also use a chain and the tractor bucket to pull the t-posts later, although a t-post puller works fairly well and doesn't take too much effort. Good luck on finding your larger dream farm!

    You must have all needed a rest after the weekend, although hopefully you’ve been able to ride Stella Laura, be good to keep the practice up and Stella’s fitness for your camping trip 😊👍 I hope you managed to get something sorted for the bigger paddock, that’s a great idea, although I can understand why you don’t want to spend a fortune on renovations if you’ll be moving sooner rather than later. I agree with Fionna too, once the summer grass has gone and even if you can only put Stella out for a shorter time on the grass with a muzzle, it’s worth giving it a go, it will be great for them to have more of an area to move around in too 👍
    Lots of colours look good on a palomino ( having ridden for a long time 😊), black, white, red, teal, golds, even some brown shades, although I’d say Gracie’s not as golden as Finn, the purple you’ve chosen will be great too. I’m not sure if you’re getting tack with her, if not, might be worth you seeing if Finn’s bridle fits her and treating him to a slightly bigger one. In the close up shots it always looks a bit snug to me 😊 Lovely to put your rosettes in the barn, only downside is they get dusty very quickly 😂

    Cavallo's are my all time favorite they stay on in mud, they are great on roads and are really easy to take on and off. My sister uses them on her horse on a fully paved trail and has never had a problem, she has also used them through 3 feet deep mud and they stayed on! EasyBoots are not good boots from experience, they slip, the mud or water doesn't drain, and my sister had them on in the creek and they came off and freaked the horse out when they were dangling from his pasterns. My old co-worker was riding with them and one got lost in the mud and then put another one on and lost that one too! My sister and I found ONE of them early this year incased in mud. If you get hoof boots make sure they fit poperly (don't twist or move) get the boots before you go camping so they can get used to them, I haven't had problems with hoof boots when they fit properly.

    We have Cavallo trek boots, fits our cobs brilliant. The different brands/makes fit different shape hoofs differently. My friends x race horse has Cavallo simple boots. They fit her better then the trek. Just trial and error. Also dont measure hoof just after a trim wait a week or two. The hoof keeps growing so you might have to rasp hoof inbetween trims, if the hoof flares out ect, so boots still fit.

    Instead of giving your horses a huge field which not all of your horses can enjoy, maybe look into Paddock Paradise / Paddock Tracks for your forever farm?
    The basic idea is a grass-less track around e.g a field, into some forest or whatever you've got on your land, and have multiple smaller hay-stations around the track.
    If you've got different kids of terrain in your tracks, you can condition the hooves of a barefoot horse into being more tolerant to rougher terrains, as they'd be getting more used to it on their own.
    Ad-lib hay, but spread around the track, would decrease the chances of stomach-ulcers, since the stomach-acids the horse produce 24/7 will always have something to work with. Having the hay spread around the track would encourage the horses to move around more as well, conditioning their own bodies as well.
    Horses thrive in a properly managed track-system, and I really encourage you to look into it for your forever farm!
    Here's a video of a tracksystem in Alberta, Canada. :)

    you could always leave willow and gracie out in the arena overnight, and if that doesnt work out you could put up the electric fence like what you used to (and maybe still do idk) so they could stay in the arena and still have company if they dont like being alone in there

    research how to stretch your horses legs, its really easy, if you can pick up their feet, you'll be able to, and it might help with stella's stiffness too x

    good excuse to make the hay area into a custom sized willow stable....everything built for her. I think she will be more comfortable with that. Its a perfect willow size as its unlikely she'll get cast etc in there, but anything a hand bigger could. plus she will have a view of everyone.

    Measuring for boots is EASY, have measured many many times and never got it wrong.
    I just ordered a full set of Renegade boots. I would research different types of boots. Check out the Renegades or Scoot Boots. Personally feel they are better suited for trail riding.
    I also cannot believe in your last video, that you said people get upset about Gabbie letting Sophie use Storm. Showing isent about the ribbons, and Gabby obviously understands that. She is such a good big sister to help out Sophie. Then for Sophie to give her award to Gabby (for a 9 year old that’s a big deal. You guys are doing great, your girls are growing into kind, giving horsewomen.

    Yeah my mom has cavello boots for her horse as she rides a lot over the chase and he pulled off his shoes so we brought some and they worked perfectly but they are also quite expensive and someone sale on the yard we are on had some and she lost one over the chase
    Yes I agree with jackylovertjex your horses feet have to be freshly trimmed when you try them on other whys if they aren’t they when they are (freshly)trimmed they will be to big
    Hope you manage to gets some before you go on your ride Good look

    Have you guys ever thought about mowing the grass really short and then put Storm and Finn in the field? Obviously cleaning up the grass clippings cuz those aren’t good for horses. I think this way you could clear out the grass really quickly for the girls. 🤔 Idk if it would work but it’s worth a shot!🤷‍♀️

    We got my Tennessee walking horse mare injected last fall in her stifles and hocks. She was short striding quite a bit but this never did fix it. Turned out she actually had an SI joint injury. We recently got her SI’s injected and now she is going great and no hitch!

    If your looking into hoof boots for fin I recommend scoot boots they drain out and dry a lot better than cavallos and you can get interchangeable straps so you can be matchy and you can get mud straps so you don’t lose them on the trail if they happen to come off

  • @hollyleach1112

    Red looks good in palominos. And that green would've been amazing!
    You guys don't need to always believe gabby's word all the time. She didn't want red because it was storms colour. And sometimes you need to make sure that gabby and Sophie (just gabby does it a bit more ) learns well to ask for something not say " we are getting it." I'm only saying. I've watched your videos for a long time now and I know gabby does this a lot and I'm not even exaggerating.
