We have jumped around a lot this edition. I think this book is set before Guilliman crossed the rift and before he met the blood Angels. So to the current time, this is actually set in the past relative to the Arks of Omen. The Arks of Omen haven’t happened yet, neither has Vashtorr or the Lion.
Okay so I went and did a bunch of reading trying to piece together all of these questions, and it sounds like Devastation of Baal and Lion Son of the Forest. Both take place after the Dawn of Fire series. So Genefather also takes before G-man brings reinforcements to Dante and makes him Lord Protector of Emperium Nihilus. Obviously this isn't directly from black library, but it makes the most sense.
Imagine Gulliman returns to Terra with the Lion just when the Highlords want to rebel again. Highlords of Terra: "The Lord commander has been away for too long. Time for us to seize the power." *Knocking on the door* Highlords: "Who's there!? This meeting is limited to the Highlords of Terra only!" Lionel: "Change of management. My brother wanted to go back to his realm to manage his business. So I'll in charge of this council from now on".
The might have changed but he still has similarities to his past self so I think he'll just kill them all and paint the walls with the highlords blood. Also, I doubt that he would leave to manage his realm. I am sure he will continue to manage the imperium.
@@rajukoley9249 Yeah. But Gulliman's principles have always been about redundancy. He talked about the possibility of his death even before the Heresy. By his standard the Ultramarines both failed and successfully passed the test of time, after his death they still hold true to his teaching but also became stiff and can't think outside of the boxes aside from some outstanding individuals within the chapter. If the Lion can handle the imperium politics he will provide a great deal of redundancy in leadership in case that Gulliman is killed again or separated from the imperium. Maybe Gulliman wants to send the Lion to see if his reforms have made a change, he's not above listening to other people's input, maybe he wants to see how the Lion will handle it too. If the nobles don't appreciate Gulliman's carrot, they will get the stick from the Lion.

I find myself wondering how this is all going to play out? I can see a possibility that the brothers get trapped on the other side of the rift and have to battle for survival, Terra is then left "wide open" to assaults, thus setting the stage for more loyalist Primarchs to return for the "End times". Both Vulkan and Russ are prophesied to return and I wonder if this might be the stage that is set. Essentially, exactly the same situation as the Heresy.
"On the eve of..." seems to be able to mean everything from just the night before to a couple of years, depending on context. On planning a campaign, especially one on the scale of Guilliman's capacity, I'd say it could mean at least a couple of weeks, months or more.
Utilizing a semi stable coridor to deposit a large force into nihilus to blitz the rear of the gauntlet is quite the daring gambit. I cant help but imagine some tech heresy will he happening to keep this expeditionary fleet going

I would love guilliman and lion to fight back to back, lion blocking blows with the shield and spins out of the way for guilliman to hit it with the sword. Just wombo combo on one of the daemon primarchs.
Honestly I think the only way for this to work is for Gulliman to rely Lionell to Deep Strike by Forest Walking. I just think the war they have to fight is so great they don’t have time to Butt heads. Lionell will travel across the Imperium Galvanizing forces and Gilliman will have to retool and figure out logistics and what Belizarius is up to to retrofit new Astartes.
It's still funny that Gilligan is putting all these resources into the primarous marines instead of the hammer of the Emperor who do 99% of the fighting and win most of the wars imagine a lasgun with slightly more armor pen or am auto loader for imperial tanks cheaper armored etc
Guillman feel like Iulius Valerius Maiorianus the last western roman emperor that tried to reclaim and reforge the Empire but was betrayed and arrested by his own generals
Great vid dude, you're the only 40k YT creator that has covered this, that i have seen anyway. Hopefully, G-man and The Lion will bring order back to the imperium.
I haven't read the book but looking at the explanations I have the impression that it's a sort of flashback. We know that Baal was liberated in the current timeline. Although the war began shortly after the Great Rift opened, we know in the book that time evolved differently in real space and that it had been several decades. We know that from the crusade start to its ultramar territory it took approximately 12 years At the end of Godblight, we know that Guillimane wanted to cross the big rift. as the chapter world of the BA has not yet been liberated, this therefore means that Guillimane had not yet passed the rift. So I think it was quite a while between the end of the last novel about the plague wars and the devastation of Baal, so Primark had already been through the rift for quite a while it's just that this part had not been developed so Genefather is a flashback that it takes place between the end of the plague wars and Baal in between
Is there any Source with a complete timeline of the 40K Universe? to bring everything into perspective and get a feeling for the flow. Or do you think GW leaves it blurry at purpose to give everyone room to play out whatever they want?
I feel like this is a lore filler. Which is good. We all love the lore. We already know what happens in the future. Dante becomes regent 2.0. Guilliman heads backs to Sanctus. Q-voe turns Mephiston into a primaris. Dante meets the Lion. Then Arcs of omen plot line. So you could be right. Lore filler to build up to something big.
Rowboat and the Lion will, eventually, meet up. They won't get along. "Infuriating Roboute", and all that. It will look bad, maybe another civil war. Then, Vulkan will come back, and everyone will hug it out.
Guilliman should invade the palace of slaanesh and get his gf that sword so they can bring back the emperor. I mean they used some of that heretic space elf magic to bring back gman himself I don't see why they wouldn't want to see that through.
It’s about time they catch up with devastation of Baal. I am still really salty that GW allowed their table, top side to ruin another great moment for the storyline to make the stupid over powered plot armor nids relevant for the newest edition. I used to really like the nids. Now they are able to create super monsters whenever they want, and then numbers that make no sense violating all known laws. They used to be cool because they operated as a intelligent swarm. Now they are just like chaos that magically has the right organism to infiltrate whatever obstruction or the correct organism to punch holes through the hardest, known material and the setting. But the thing that makes me the most irritated is that they’ve brought back the hive fleet after thousands of space Marines went toe to toe with leviathan defeating it. Gotta sell those models, idiots.
@@cbrando190 The Emperor said it himself. He isn't God. I excepted it. After Guilliman became Emperor the three things he should do first is to order the purges of the Inquisition, the Adeptus Mechanicus and the High Lords of Terra.
All this talk of worries that Rowboat will recreate a legion but no one cares that the Lion is most certainly not collecting the remnants of a Dark Angel chapter.
Who in the imperium except the inquisition has any idea what the unforgiven are doing and where? Doubt they would even know The Lion had his boys all under his command to complain about it.

I dont blame the imperium for not trusting him. How many stories in 40k involve some picturesque hero/great leader who eother becomes corrupted or os just a shitbag.
A note on timeline issue you seem to have invented. You say that when you are on the "Eve" of something you consider it to be the day before, a rather tragic short sightedness on your behalf. What you have to consider is that the Imperium is like a battleship, very powerful, very large able to achieve mighty goals BUT it takes a lot of time and effort to turn it to the purpose that is required. So claiming that the Imperium is on the Eve of something could be days, months heck even years!
The humans fearing guilaman is stupid he's the most loyal son and the second most caring primacrk when humans are involved I mean him not purging the highland and the church immediately should be a lesson
You forgot to mention that the event: Devastation of Baal has not happened yet. And so, in the end of the Book: Lion of the Forest when the Lion meets the Blood Angels with the Primaris Marines and Dante tells the Lion that your brother Lord Commander Guilliman saved the Blood Angels from the Tyranid invasion of Baal. Well that’s going to be years into the future after the Book : Gene Father
This also fits my theory. I thought that between the plague wars and the liberation of the Blood Angel's chapter planet many years had passed (since it had already taken 12 years to bring Earth into its kingdom). in fact the liberation of Baal took place in our timeline, Baal have been liberated, except that this book (Genefather) talks about an event that happened before liberation .
He needs to cancel the Nihilus operations and focus exclusively on stopping Leviathan. If the Tyranids aren't stopped, the rest of the galaxy won't matter.
Meh, I hate the long way around. Yes, plot and narrative info dumping over a short route is tedious yet still. The back side route around the eye of terror heads up to the Medusa and Caliban sectors. Instead we get to slow boat back to Ultra Mar, maybe another side quest with Tyranids, before he gets ganked by Fulgrim for the next range release. Maybe we get a 2024 box set 2v2 Primarch box set fighting over the latest mc guffin. Awesome 😎 👍. Just in time to declare all remaining first born marine units traitor for rejection of upgrades. 2025?
You would think that the High Lords of the imperium would be a ok with all of new primaris going with Guilliman to Nihlus. I mean they are absolutely going to obey the Primarchs first so the farther away the safer. It's even likely that Guilliman left them for the sole reason of keeping the High Lords in check.
But the real question is... WHEN ARE THE BROTHERS GOING TO FINALLY MEET?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I wouldn't be surprised if the next Primarch meets either first.

I would love guilliman and lion to fight back to back, lion blocking blows with the shield and spins out of the way for guilliman to hit it with the sword. Just wombo combo on one of the daemon primarchs.
👍
*The Lion immediately slapping him:* “brother, IN FATHERS NAME, WHY SLEEP WITH AN ELDARI?!”
Better than sleeping alone!
@@Zuemmel I mean he does have a Eldari sister even if she’s still stuck in the Warhammer library?
Well everyone, tell me what do you think:
Me: The Emperor Protects 😂
Thanks for a great summary Lord Rho🛡️
When will Bobby G and Grandpa Lion finally meet?
Expect a another Primarch to meet either first.
Enter, "THE RUSS!" 🌌🐺
Guillman feel like Iulius Valerius Maiorianus the last western roman emperor that tried to reclaim and reforge the Empire but was betrayed and arrested by his own generals
Great vid dude, you're the only 40k YT creator that has covered this, that i have seen anyway. Hopefully, G-man and The Lion will bring order back to the imperium.
i just want a full audiobook done by Rho soo soo bad
So the Tyranids are pushing on Terra, and winning, but we’re going to cross the rift? Madness.
I haven't read the book but looking at the explanations I have the impression that it's a sort of flashback.
We know that Baal was liberated in the current timeline.
Although the war began shortly after the Great Rift opened, we know in the book that time evolved differently in real space and that it had been several decades.
We know that from the crusade start to its ultramar territory it took approximately 12 years
At the end of Godblight, we know that Guillimane wanted to cross the big rift. as the chapter world of the BA has not yet been liberated, this therefore means that Guillimane had not yet passed the rift.
So I think it was quite a while between the end of the last novel about the plague wars and the devastation of Baal, so Primark had already been through the rift for quite a while it's just that this part had not been developed so Genefather is a flashback that it takes place between the end of the plague wars and Baal in between
I do hope that in private the brother will give each other a big ol transhuman bro hug.
Is he not going to deal with the bugs. I’m looking forward to seeing the reunion with the Lion
Does E'ljohnson control where and when he moves "forest walk" between worlds?
Is there any Source with a complete timeline of the 40K Universe? to bring everything into perspective and get a feeling for the flow. Or do you think GW leaves it blurry at purpose to give everyone room to play out whatever they want?
If Cawl won't be able to reinforce Guilliman it begs the question who will instead?
2:00 He obviously just means it is about to occur, you're being way way way to literal
are there any novels that cover roboute crossing the rift? black library doesn't have a good chronology on their site
Nah. The only book a bout RG in Nihilus is Dévastation of Baal. But nothing about the cross
Is that that Rogue Trader who had a crush on a Magus?
The Novels and the codex/campaign books are not in the same date.
The Novels are some years behind.
Wait then is this before or after the devastation of Baal and him appointing Dante as regent of Nihilus?
If I was a Primarch. I would sink tremendous amount resources. Into discovering away for primaris space marines to procreate naturally.
Emperor’s Spears could use a hand.
Nice
Guilliman should invade the palace of slaanesh and get his gf that sword so they can bring back the emperor. I mean they used some of that heretic space elf magic to bring back gman himself I don't see why they wouldn't want to see that through.
Not even a single mention to Dante?? What have you done my boy Wolflord
Wait, doesnt Bellasarius have displacement/ mass transportation tech?!
I'm pretty sure u are right.
Gotta sell those models, idiots.
isn't this just the indomitus crusade?
Wait so is this pre or post Indomitus? It’s pre right?
So what happened to vigilus?
Maybe we will get more lore on other chapters and the Lion. That way you can talk about something else than Roboute Guileman 🙄
Robot Goldilocks is definitely the best primarch.
Quick somebody make a meme with Dante Gilliam in and the lion at McDonald's
How long before we start calling Guilliman "warmaster"?
I think he take the role of the emperors replacement while the Lion will be Warmaster.
ALL HAIL GUILLIMAN!!!! THE NEW EMPEROR OF MANKIND!!!
The inquisition enters the chat.
@@cbrando190 The Emperor said it himself. He isn't God. I excepted it. After Guilliman became Emperor the three things he should do first is to order the purges of the Inquisition, the Adeptus Mechanicus and the High Lords of Terra.
Wow, let’s not get hasty. I may be a corpse on a throne, but I’m only HALF-dead
Heresy!
@@velenvskaelhas It is not! Heresy is when you call the Emperor "God". He said it by himself, He wasn't.
@@emirhaneksioglu4503 was talking about lore guys but in universe the inquisition are likely shitting themselves sideways at the barest rumour of a returned primarch collecting a "traitor" legion and moving in the galaxy.
I would say, this has all the makings of Napoleon attacking Russia......
I thought that between the plague wars and the liberation of the Blood Angel's chapter planet many years had passed (since it had already taken 12 years to bring Earth into its kingdom). in fact the liberation of Baal took place in our timeline, Baal have been liberated, except that this book (Genefather) talks about an event that happened before liberation .
wolf rod lo
Horus was a better strategic Primarch
imagine current story of darktide lore. we suddenly hear of astartes reinforcements. or at least reinforcements at all
He needs to cancel the Nihilus operations and focus exclusively on stopping Leviathan. If the Tyranids aren't stopped, the rest of the galaxy won't matter.
all the story seems cool, but the state of the game is an absolute dumpster fire which really limits player interaction with the actual story of 40K.
Random thought:
An AI installed into a servitor, or several, made from blanks.
not the unforgiven....................................................the redeemed.
Nah. They’re still the Unforgiven
Let me guess, now Dante will fight with Guillemen and Lion, almost die, bet get revived again.
I'm confused is this the first time he crosses tonnihilus? So he have not meet dante rigth?
You would think that the High Lords of the imperium would be a ok with all of new primaris going with Guilliman to Nihlus. I mean they are absolutely going to obey the Primarchs first so the farther away the safer. It's even likely that Guilliman left them for the sole reason of keeping the High Lords in check.
