I'm 64, but when I was around 18 I went to a "box social". I prepared two Cornish hens and a dessert. Then you wrap your dinner like a gift and the men bid on which one they'd like. But she was cute as hell, so I ate every bit of it, and drank the tea too! Somehow, later, she found out how much I dislike pasta, and she thought it was adorable that I didn't kick up a fuss about it. The funny thing is, twenty-five years later, I'll still eat anything she cooks, just because I'm a good sport, and she's a tremendous cook. But not tea with milk and sugar! It was usually once they "began their womanhood" that they became eligible for marriage (12 to 14). Remember, life back then was very hard for most people. With the lack of medical understanding, these times took their toll on the human body. Usually by the age of 40 you were physically done. If you had built a good life for yourself and had plenty of children to replace you, your retirement (latter years) was a easier one.

It was so much work to lug the lumber from my trailer on the road to the backyard of people's homes by hand (by myself I must add) so I got creative with the 2 x 3 poles that the lumber was shipped on thankfully I had saved up quite a few from multiple jobs stacking some that I screwed together before sawing it into a rough circle shape and using a few others to make the same wide H shape with an L foot to rest lumber on just the same way Ron's is put together crazy how a simple design can kinda transcend as the best way to resolve an issue without plans being taught or anything
