Yeah, that's the really sad thing about it. Jane died bringing this boy into the world, but he didn't even get to grow into a full adult before he died, too. Poor kid was only 15.
Not a lot of people talk about this but there might have been overlap between Anne and Jane, as well... He also probably cheated on Jane as well, very likely so to the point that it affected her health before and after the birth of their son. This may not be true but there is some talk of it
Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour (and Katherine Howard) were all cousins Imagine seeing the king behead his wife, your cousin; and then being told you're going to be his next wife
Absolutely love that the animatic ended with her hugging her son. Her son was supposed to succeed Henry but died at 16, so it shows how much effort the artist put into the animatic.
the emotion that this song has brought out to you is something special. having music influence you in such a way when it rarely does gives me the vibe that youre such a genuine soul. ❤ i hope you reach the stars.
That "scared" feeling with your hair raising, in the US we call getting goosebumps, and it's common to get them when you experience something incredible like great art. A more technical term for it is frisson, the shudder you get from thrill and excitement. There's a subreddit for frisson where people post what has given them frisson.
I’ve heard this song dozens of times, but I hadn’t seen that animatic yet. I just bawled my eyes out. Seeing her look over to her baby boy just reminded me so much of when my sister died and her son was only 4 months old. I’m a mess now, but I’m so glad you posted this. Thank you.
At the beginning of this song in the stage show, all the queens are just sitting and watching, not singing back-up like they are for the first two solo songs, which I always read as them not really believing that she had a story to tell. And then halfway through, which you commented on, they start singing, which I feel like is them empathizing with her and her story. I feel like they stand up one by one at some point, maybe when they start singing? I don't remember. But still, I think it's super interesting how the background vocals are used in this song.
While this is a nice way of telling it, Jane Seymour was _definitly_ scared of Henry. There are multiple records of Henry dismissing her pretty harshly, especially when she was trying to advocate for returning his daughter Mary (Katherine of Arargon's Daughter) to her rightful status. He pretty much told her to shut up. And when she dared to ask him to restore a certain church to the catholics, he outright told her to think of what happened to his other wives who thought they could talk back. So... yeah. I do not think she was weak, I think she was doing what she could with the position as a woman that she was given, but I _do_ think she was scared of Henry and his whims
Yes, she was scared of Henry (who wouldn't be?), but she also let it out on her ladies-in-waiting. She harassed them in every possible way. For example, in order to appear in front of the queen, the women had to wear a belt of pearls containing at least 120 of the precious gems. If they didn’t? Jane would simply refuse to look at them. Besides, she was an avid and skilled hunter. She loved to go hunting, and when she made gifts, she gifted the people what she had hunted.
I've seen this show 5 times live with three different Seymour's, all incredible and brought me to tears. However, every time this song starts, that's when everyone in the audience decides to gets up to go the loo, or to go the bar, or decide to open that very noisy packet of sweets, or just start talking. Every. Single. Time! I don't understand, maybe they can't cope with crying in public, but it confuses me so much.
@Melbern11 it absolutely drives me up the wall. Just because they're not dancing and bopping is no excuse to be loud. The song is heartbreaking and everyone I've seen has had me in tears. Audiences can be so rude.
This song is beautiful, but in my opinion, the lyrics are only successful when she is singing about her son. The verses about Henry read to me as: abuse me as much as you want, and I'll love you no matter how poorly you treat me. Which I don't love. But once it's about her son, it's amazing.
Everyone is crying, absolutely everybody. If you are not, you are a literal robot... no apologizing for getting emotional, it should be that kind of song!
Every time I hear this song I cry. It is intense. Do not worry about showing emotion. Feeling things that moves us is part of what makes us human. Do not let your crown slide king ❤ you got this
While I’m not a huge fan of this song (I’m very picky with slow songs) but I’ll never deny the vocal talent on display. The actress/singer is phenomenal.
My favorite song of the set, too... not the most up-beat or the rawest, but in some ways the best written. The shifted of 'heart of stone' (usually meaning not caring, being turned to mean 'strong love'), combined with the ambiguity of her statements- is she saying 'I'm strong enough to love you,' or 'I'm strong enough to endure you,'? And add in at the end that it shifts from her talking about her love for Henry to people realizing that she means her love for her son... its just so poetic, and I love it!
That D6 either comes out great when I sing it or like a fork in a garbage disposal there is no in between lol. Since I had Covid, it’s more the latter unfortunately 😂😭
I absolutely love those songs that are so deeply moving that leave no room for actual reaction and instead fully attack your emotions. They’re my favorite kind of reactions because I love seeing other people be affected the same way I was while listening to masterpieces like this
A really sad SIX fact the person who plays Jane in the broadway (where the All you wanna do you reacted to came from) that actor is actually a mother herself which gives her so much more intense emotion to this song as a mother splaying the character who sings a love song to her son after she died not getting to know him which can touch a mother when you have to play that part😭😭🥺🥺🥺🩵🩵🩵
The the US we call that response getting goosebumps or getting the chills! You can get it from being scared too, but you're experiencing the positive version. Music is a very common cause of that, and I'm happy you're getting to experience it!
I cry EVERY time! It is even more impactful when you see one particular actress performing it on stage...she embodies the emotions of the song and kicks you in the gut even more.
This is one of my favourite songs Casper you are one of my favourite RUclipsrs ever and I like how you put the song in your own words and how you explain it to the people is amazing and you inspired me to do my own RUclips channel
I always feel like the second half of this song (when the chorus aka the other queens starts singing) deserves a full on pipe organ. I can see her in my head, up front in a cathedral with the sunlight coming in from the windows behind her
I love this song so much (even though every one is a total banger)! I'm also a sucker for a ballad and the feelings. All my friends keep "casting" me as Seymour so I better start practicing!
I am SO pleased you connected with this one! It's one of two emotional gut punches in the musical, imo. (The second one is R O U G H.) But also, the next queen is my personal favorite and I'm so excited for you to officially meet her!!
This one isn’t my favorite but she’s just a powerful singer. But yea if you’re weeping for this one…. Oof buddy… you’re not ready for kate howard’s song… hers always breaks me (maybe cause I can relate haha 🥲) but only the live version. The studio version didn’t add the same heartbreaking emotions at the end. If you’re using Mortius’s playlist, then hopefully he added the live version.
Great reaction and analysis to this song, Casper. It's a real treat. I've been wanting to mention, after you're done with the musical via the playlist you're doing, you might want to check out the Tiny Desk Concert that featured a touring cast of Six; Jasmine Forsberg does a genuinely amazing rendition of "Heart of Stone" as part of that which I think you'd get a real kick out of, along with the couple other songs they perform. You also get a good look at what the band for the musical is doing in the songs, which I think you'd appreciate; the touring drummer, Paige Durr, is excellent.
Casper. I have two things to say to you and I know you probably won’t read this. It’s perfectly fine to have an emotional reaction to an emotional song. So many of us feel the same way about this song! Secondly thank you for putting happy tears in my eyes instead of sad ones. I haven’t had that in a very long time. Thank you from making me smile.
This is actually one of my two least favorite songs in the show (just because it's one of the two slowest songs and I'm not usually that fond of ballads/slow songs, nothing against the quality of them), but I discovered that I liked the way Mortius did his react/analysis of Heart of Stone, maybe because it broke up the song with pauses, and it made me enjoy the song more. So I'm here for this R/A. :-)
@@AwshArix I found Casper's channel via Mortius' channel. They do things together as well as individually, and Mortius did a series of R/As to SIX as well that I saw first. Sorry for not being clearer!

Best song in SIX! Every live musical has one song that makes or breaks it live. If the actor/tress nails that song…seeing the show is amazing. If they disappoint, the entire evening is ruined. This is it for SIX. Burn for Hamilton. Bring Him Home in Les Miz, Phantom has Music of the Night. Waitress has She Used to be Mine. Wicked is As Long As You’re Mine. I could go on and on.
As you probably already know, all of the queens have specific groups of pop artists that they are modeled after. I’ll put a break here in case you want to figure out who Jane is inspired by yourself… Jane is inspired by Adele, Sia, and Celine Dion, and you can really _feel_ that in the music. I’m the most familiar with Adele from that list, and the people behind this musical really nailed the feeling of an Adele song.

It's a shame that Gigi's "Heart of stone" (together with a bunch of their other animatics) is currently unlisted... AYGEE's animatic is great, don't get me wrong! But Gigi's has to be my absolute favorite animatic for that song!
This is the first time so far (and possibly only time throughout but I'm not sure) that it's the same actress in the main song and the in between section. Edit: Wait, no, I think Katherine H might be the same too.
I think the song can be both: A love song to Henry, and about her song. I don't see why it has to be one or the other, especially when a lot of the lines are directly directed towards Henry
Jane died 6 days after giving birth to her son, complications due to childbirth, I think. Henry mourned her for 2 years, and he's buried with her. Make of that what you will
Part of me loves that this show is very feminist but still acknowledges that traditional roles are fine if that is what a person wants. Forcing the roles is wrong. Jane Seymour is very traditional in her aspirations but she does not attack the other queens nor they her. She wants motherhood and a large family, things she didn’t get to really experience because she died of childbirth complications.
In the show, Jane actually attacks Katheryn Howard, pulling her hair during the argument taking place right before Catherine Parr's song. The queens also throw quips at each other, as can be heard in the intro to Jane's song.
