She knows she isn’t going to win at all. She managed to have a great life by willingly taking the divorce. Henry wrote her off as ugly to explain the divorce, but the real reason was that she wasn’t forbidden fruit and he wasn’t transgressing by getting with her.
@@annekeener4119It wasn't politically necessary to stay married to her anymore. They married because France and the HRE stopped fighting each other and Henry needed Protestant allies in case they decided to team up and overthrow him. Once they started fighting again, Anne's brother wasn't needed anymore. She also wasn't his type. Henry preferred educated women who could advise him, while there was a large education gap between English and German noblewomen. Henry also preferred thinner, boyish women, while Anne's figure was more mature. English observers also found her German wardrobe unflattering. Witness accounts offer more praise to her beauty once she adopted an English wardrobe.
regarding switching accents: the entire show is performed only by the 6 Queens. So if there are other characters, such as the Holbein staff, it's still the Queens actresses. For Holbein, they have sunglasses and neck ruffs to differentiate from their Queen role. The random bursts of British are more like side notes, being interjected from a 3rd POV. Also, high heels did exist! They were pretty different, more blocky. They actually originated as men's fashion, intended to make it easier to keep feet in stirrups while riding horses.
Does this mean I can wear high heels and if weird guys who think its "woke" for boys to wear high heels ask why I can just say "historical accuracy" >:)
u probably heard from others on patron, but the line is "ignore the Fear and you'll be Fine, we'll turn this Vier (four) into a nine" playing on the rhymes of German words vier (four) and nein (no) with fear and nine. the whole numbers thing also comes from the idea of eating someones attractiveness on a scale of 1 to 10. so basically they're gonna turn her from so so average (4) to really attractive (9). this also plays more on the idea that she "tricked" Henry the viii by not looking like her portrait (a big reason on why he decided to marry her)
I was coming down to the comments to post basically this, not gonna lie. The only thing I would add is that the line is immediately followed by "So just say Ja (yes) and don't say Nein (no)" to lampshade that nine/nein confusion that Casper had.
Fun fact as a fellow dane but Christina of Denmark wasn't turned down, she turned Henry down. She turned him down, saying she would be happy to marry the king if she had had two heads: "If I had two heads, one should be at the King of England's disposal.”
lol!! So true!! Just in case someone is confused by this humor In my experience Danes have the tendency to wave flags in these cases as a way of making fun of themselves for getting excited at seeing Danish people in media. Basically Danes are used to being ignored or not relevant so when they play a part at all they play it up a bit for thier own amusement. The humor used is kinda the same vibe as if an Italian tourist visited USA and wanted a selfie with every Pizza and Italian flag they find on the trip. Like: whooohooo FUXK YEAH LETSS GOOO DENMARK!!! ( can’t believe people are actually this crazy in normal life) !! LETS DRINK BEer and do mud wrestling .!!! Denmark is so small and often disappointingly not a part of a lot of shows, so Danes often enjoy when other cultures are interested or when they get mentioned. Think of it like if your local town got mentioned on international news, for something that isn’t a killer or a natural disaster. Yeah a lot of people in your neighborhood may become really excited about that. And that is the kind of vibe going on here, if im not wrong.
In a way, the two Annes became victors in two different ways, Boleyn died so her daughter would keep her claim, said daughter, becoming the virgin queen and last Tudor, the line went with her after Henry tried so hard for sons, and Cleves out lived him, had a good life and she became friends with him, he viewed her as a sister after some time
Historical explanation behind Anne of Cleves. Anne was the daughter to a Duchy within the Holy Roman Empire (Germany). Hans Holbein (Haus of Holbein) was a close artist to Henry, he drew art of almost everyone within the family, including all of his wives, his children etc. Henry believed his art to be authentic and replicated their likeness very well. Henry saw the piece of Anne of Cleves (after Hans left to the Holy Roman Empire for a bit and drew the portrait of Anne Cleves and her sister Amalie) and thought she was absolutely beautiful and wanted her to be his wife. He wanted to surprise his new found wife by suddenly kissing her and embracing her before introducing himself to her. Thinking that she would swoon like he was some dashing prince, but she did not in fact have that certain reaction. She was not interested at all, until it being revealed he was the King of England. Even then however she was still not very interested, always looking withdrawn and looking outside the window. Henry was upset by this obviously, but claimed that it was the fact that he was "catfished," that she wasn't as beautiful as the art depicted. Though many believe that was just him more upset that she wasn't very interested, as she was described as being very beautiful and "lovely of the face." Which lead to a unconsummated marriage and 6 months of lovelessness. Henry could not do anything to Anne, he was already in hot water with the church after Anne Boleyn, and England wasn't doing very well economically. Henry couldn't gain the ire of one of the bigger empires of the time, the Holy Roman Empire, which is where she was from. So instead, she was given an estate by the King where in which she could lavishly until the end of her days. I believe she got the nickname "Sister of the King." Either way, she lived and died happily.
One thing you miss not watching the actual show is the costume reveal during the pause after "as he takes my fur," it's so gooood. And I loved how growly and powerful our Anna delivered this song on the tour, I'm sad there's no recording. The others are good but just not the same!
Fun fact, Christina of Denmark was frikkin' savage when rejecting Henry. She supposedly said ""If I had two heads, one should be at the King of England's disposal."" She also wore black mourning clothes for her portrait that Hans Holbein painted of her (I think this was because it wasn't that long after Jane Seymore died. Jane passed away in 1537, Hans Holbein arrived in Brussels where Christina was at in March 1538).
I believe wunderbar is a play on words for the “Wonder Bra” the women under garment lol thanks for the reaction! Anne of Cleves and Get Down are my favorite in Six! Also very important exactly where you question the break IS where a different performance happens for each Anne of Cleves actress, not restricted to the album version. Highly recommend watching some live performances.
@@gothic_ace2037 oh yea I know that. He just said no one really uses the word wunderbar so I thought maybe he missed that they used the word bc it’s a play on words for the Wonder Bra.

Heals were originally worn by men, they were useful to secure your foothold in stirrups when riding, specifically in combat situations like mounted archery where both hands are occupied. They also improved a man’s stature and helped him look more imposing. (Though I understand at 6’2” Henry viii didn’t need any help and probably wouldn’t have warn them himself except perhaps when riding) they were impractical footwear for city streets/regular use which made them an excellent status symbol for the wealthy. The first recorded instance of a woman wearing heals was Catherine de Medici who wore them to her wedding in 1533 (possibly hoping to look older than her 14 years.) That’s 7 years before Anne’s wedding. Mary Tudor (Henry and Catherine of Aragon’s daughter) was known to wear heals during her 5 year Reign as well.
Yeah, pretty much everyone agrees that Anna of Cleeves got out of there in the best way she could have. The main reason Henry didn't do with her what he did with Anne Boleyn, is her lineage. If he had beheaded her on some trumpet up charges to get rid of her, He might have risked war with the HRE, which was _not_ something that was worth a dead wife, so, instead, he payed her out, set her up and said "Pretty please write all your german relatives that you are being treated very nice, yes?"

So the fun thing haus of holbein is that there's a lot of wordplay like the wunderbar is that in the line, it's supposed to sound like wonderbra a common support bra as they're talking about holding everything up.
The Vier into a Nein line is talking about wife #4. Anna of Cleves was painted by Holbein, and the story goes she didn’t look like her picture. Cleves has become the first “catfish”. It’s a really amazing play on the German language and history.
You just got so Danish as soon as they said Christina of Denmark, singing "Der er et yndigt land" and waving your flag. As a fellow Dane I began laughing so hard, it is really rare to see Denmark mentioned in anything. Some say that Christina of Denmark actually said that she would marry Henry VIII if she had two heads.
A few days late but i believe the reason they use wunderbar is to make a joke about "Wonder bra" seeing as how the line before it is: "we know all the best inventions to hold everything up"
The OG London cast of Six is great, but Get Down is one of the songs where I recommend looking up the Broadway version. Brittney Mack, who originated the role of Cleves on Broadway, is an absolute powerhouse! The music may be the same, but the vibes are cranked way up, IMO!
7:50! Depends on the place and time! For example: Egypt! Around 3000 BCE, Egyptian butchers wore heels to avoid stepping in animal blood, a style later adopted by nobility for ceremonies. If I remember correctly, of course. As for the time while the reign of Henry The VIII? I think high heels weren’t popular yet during Henry VIII's reign and they became fashionable later, mainly influenced by European aristocracy. During his time, footwear was more practical, focusing on wide-toed shoes called "duckbill shoes."
I realised you were danish within (if I remember right) the second or third video I saw with you, mostly from how you pronounce certain words in english, since I pronounce them the same haha 🇩🇰
Casper is literally me whenever my country is mentioned in anything (The screenshots and voice messages of me excitedly telling my friends about an Egypt mention can confirm)
It’s “ignore the fear and you’ll be fine, we’ll turn this vier(4) into a nine, so just say yah and don’t say nein.” Referencing people’s tendency to rate women’s appearance out of 10. (But it’s extra funny given she’s the 4th wife.)
You definitely need to watch the live version for the next song, the emotion that the singer gives are so important to understand her perspective and song. It is just splendid and really pretty. Btw love how you react, it's always so fun!!🤩
At 6:32 i too thought they were saying 'well turn this fear into a nine' but the way its done the word four doesn't rhyme there so they used the german word for four that being 'Vier' for really they are saying "We will turn this four into a nine" Its pretty cool
keep forgetting my favorite get down animatic is by gigi and i didnt even realize at the time (it was waaayyyy before epic lol) also ABSOULTELY suggest checking out a live performace of this the performer has a lot more fun with it, and theres some IMPRESSIVE vocals
in 'House of Holbein' they mean the number four(vier) and nine (9) in these lines, like if you are rating people and than they get a makeover and look 'better'. And true we don't use 'wunderbar' very often, more 'wundervoll' (wonderful) or 'großartig' (great). and in this line: 'so just say ja (yes) and don't say nein (no)'. 'Das ist gut' is that is good.
Now that you finished the playlist, I highly recommend you watch as much live action as you can. The animatics are mostly based on the cast studio recording. The live performances will definitely give you a different vibe.
12:00 yeah, so I remember watching a video of yours where you said that you can't remember a particular english word and I thought to myself "omg english is his second language, that happens to me all the time" and then I tried to find out whats your first but I couldn't find it anywhere until you mentioned it in some other video and then I thought "omg a neighbor! Nice!" bc I'm german xD So, yeah, your accent is very unnoticable, if you even have one haha. And people DO say "wunderbar" but not that often, so maybe thats why you think we don't say it at all xD And this line: "Ignore the fear and you'll be fine, we turn this vier ("four") into a nine, so just ja ("yes") and don't say nein ("no") --> They say vier and not fear the second time and nine and not nein, only nein at the third part!
I would say if you know the Scandinavian languages, Danish sounds the closest to German as it lacks the sing-song qualities of Norwegian and Swedish, but it does not sound like German at all. Danish has a lots of sounds that are very difficult for German speakers.
In haus of holbien, the line is “we’ll turn this veir into a nine” veir is the number 4 in German so they’re saying “we’ll turn this 4 into a 9” then “just say ja(yes) and don’t say nein(no)”
6:28 Both They use both of them back to back “Ignore the fear and you’ll be fine. We’ll turn this vier(four) into a nine. So just say ya and don’t say nein(no)” They rhymed German words with English words.
"Hallo, hallo, digga" was amazing😂 btw, your German is actually not that bad. (Definetly better than my danish. I was in Denmark a couple of weeks ago with my orchestra, visiting another orchestra. We visit each other every year.) Luckily the family I loved with was extremely good at German and quite good at English as well. Because my Danish is basically nothing. I know like one word😂 So, really you don't have to apologize for your German. It's really quite good. (Like the things I've ever heard you say.)
Okay listen you GOTTA listen to the live version of get down! You want some sick vocal stuff WATCH IT watch or listen to the broadway live version here cause MMM *cheff kiss* it’s just IWHDKWBEIWHE
to make this song work and flow they added some german the fur to nine means she was a 4 and hey were gonna make her beautiful a nine basically rating her looks. this leads to the next song which is my favorite.
I should answer the question that the split of gendered heels happened in the 1600s as the enlightenment changed men's fashion even further towards utility rather than vanity, before then it was a sign of a cavalryman.
Yeah, Anne of Cleves, though my favorite of his wives, doesn't have the musical's best song. A great one for sure, but not one that'd go well on an out of context playlist. "All You Wanna Do" is the #1 in this musical. I never liked Jane Seymour's cuz it just felt too minimalist story-wise. She has an interesting story i think, but the songs r each queen's story moment, n Jane's really doesn't give much of anything. Like the animatic added a thousand% more to the song cuz it added real story telling. This song, although not even close to Jane's lyrics or vocalization, is still better imo in the musical context. That being said, Jane's works as a song separate from the musical while Anne's doesn't. They almost all work as tiktok sounds tho. That's clear as day. Howard has the best song yet is the most easily confused with Bolyn for me. Anne Bolyn has the second best song imo. I am saying all this as clarification cuz under Bolyn's song's reaction and the Ex-Wives reaction, i left comments on the topic of my favorites that somewhat conflicted. I had forgotten if I actually ended up having Get Down as my #1 song like Cleves is my #1 of the ex-wives. This confirmed to me that I in fact don't enjoy Get Down even close to as much as other songs. I didn't leave a comment under Seymour's so I figures i'd add my input on that under this instead of going back or anything.
as a german nativ speaker I feel like I have to tell you that "wunderbar" is still used quite often, it might not be in younger peoples daily use or "slang" (I truly don't know that), but it still exists quite regulary in my surroundings. every time you said it isn't used anymore I wanted to pull my hair out😅😂

I think high heels weren’t popular yet during Henry VIII's reign and they became fashionable later, mainly influenced by European aristocracy. During his time, footwear was more practical, focusing on wide-toed shoes called "duckbill shoes."
7:57 High heels were actually invented in ancient Egypt, so yeah.
Seeing how Casper keeps on saying he knows the sounds from Tiktoks it just gets me more and more scared when we get to one particular song
"hallo hallo diggah" hahahahahahahahahaha you have no right being this funny
Okay idk if its the images with what he says but I find casper running for his flag and just screaming and singnging odly adorable 😂❤
Bro said Smash to Scylla XD
It’s “ignore the fear and you’ll be fine, we’ll turn this vier(4) into a nine, so just say yah and don’t say nein.”
Referencing people’s tendency to rate women’s appearance out of 10.
(But it’s extra funny given she’s the 4th wife.)
Timestamping 9:02 because I just-love it.
Also hearing people speak their native language is always great, genuinely.
Your danglish is excellent, good sir lmao
"Lille-Lands"-syndromet slår til igen!
You definitely need to watch the live version for the next song, the emotion that the singer gives are so important to understand her perspective and song. It is just splendid and really pretty. Btw love how you react, it's always so fun!!🤩
Omg the ACCENT!!! 😂😮
THAT WAS SOO GOOD!
At 6:32 i too thought they were saying 'well turn this fear into a nine' but the way its done the word four doesn't rhyme there so they used the german word for four that being 'Vier' for really they are saying "We will turn this four into a nine" Its pretty cool
They're gonna 'turn this vier into a 9'
They're going to take her from 'average' to beautiful
Fun fact Christina of Denmark famously said she might consider Henry's proposal if she had two heads 😂😂
keep forgetting my favorite get down animatic is by gigi and i didnt even realize at the time (it was waaayyyy before epic lol)
also ABSOULTELY suggest checking out a live performace of this
the performer has a lot more fun with it, and theres some IMPRESSIVE vocals
in 'House of Holbein' they mean the number four(vier) and nine (9) in these lines, like if you are rating people and than they get a makeover and look 'better'. And true we don't use 'wunderbar' very often, more 'wundervoll' (wonderful) or 'großartig' (great).
and in this line: 'so just say ja (yes) and don't say nein (no)'.
'Das ist gut' is that is good.
Lmaoo, I found gigi through her "Don't Lose Your Head" Animatic.
I already finished the entire musical over on Patreon - www.patreon.com/CFEntertainment
Now that you finished the playlist, I highly recommend you watch as much live action as you can. The animatics are mostly based on the cast studio recording. The live performances will definitely give you a different vibe.
Casper's Denmark Shenanigans pls! 🥲
And people DO say "wunderbar" but not that often, so maybe thats why you think we don't say it at all xD
And this line: "Ignore the fear and you'll be fine, we turn this vier ("four") into a nine, so just ja ("yes") and don't say nein ("no")
--> They say vier and not fear the second time and nine and not nein, only nein at the third part!
I would say if you know the Scandinavian languages, Danish sounds the closest to German as it lacks the sing-song qualities of Norwegian and Swedish, but it does not sound like German at all. Danish has a lots of sounds that are very difficult for German speakers.

In haus of holbien, the line is “we’ll turn this veir into a nine” veir is the number 4 in German so they’re saying “we’ll turn this 4 into a 9” then “just say ja(yes) and don’t say nein(no)”
6:28
Both
They use both of them back to back
“Ignore the fear and you’ll be fine.
We’ll turn this vier(four) into a nine.
So just say ya and don’t say nein(no)”
They rhymed German words with English words.
I know like one word😂
So, really you don't have to apologize for your German. It's really quite good. (Like the things I've ever heard you say.)
Fun fact about high heels is that up until the 18th century they were primarily worn by men
A little help for the „nein“ line: „we‘ll turn this vier(4) into a 9“
They are saying “change this 3(I think) to a 9” it does make sense dw 😂
You should lesson to lucky a fan song for Elepnor by Marjike Perry
I already heard it - I feel like the person who voices Ody in this one sounds like me haha
Excuse me? What do you meeaaannn nobody says wunderbar. It’s one of my go to words! 😂
They’re turning a “vier” into a nine, not fear XD As in 4 to 9
Casper, it only got funnier the longer you waved the flag. I loved it 😂
What’s Casper’s beef with the word “wunderbar”? 😂 (question from a confused German)
The line is "We'll turn this Vier (4) into a 9"
Chopines were worn to keep good shoes clean on horrible wet befouled streets. Those may be the high heels they're referring to.
20:38 WOAHHHHHH
So fun fact, the word veer means 4 in German (if I'm remembering correctly) so they're saying that they'll turn the 4 into a 9
3:43 objection your honor /lh
Waving the flag while going on about how your nationality isn’t that big a part of you 🤣 Well played, but I think you failed to skip the sarcasm 🤣
Okay listen you GOTTA listen to the live version of get down! You want some sick vocal stuff WATCH IT watch or listen to the broadway live version here cause MMM *cheff kiss* it’s just IWHDKWBEIWHE
They are saying we'll turn this fear (four (4)) into a nine (9)
Just for fun you should watch a live action House of H - it is a bit of a fever dream.
They were saying that they are going to turn a 4 into a 9. From basic to beautiful
to make this song work and flow they added some german the fur to nine means she was a 4 and hey were gonna make her beautiful a nine basically rating her looks. this leads to the next song which is my favorite.
it's "Holbein", both the animatic and this video have a typo XD
GIGI!!
personlig veldig takknemlig for å høre danmark nevnt i media - hilsen norge
I should answer the question that the split of gendered heels happened in the 1600s as the enlightenment changed men's fashion even further towards utility rather than vanity, before then it was a sign of a cavalryman.
GIGIIIIIIIIIII
Ignore the fear and you'll be fine
We'll turn this vier into a nine
So just ja and don't say nein
😂😂😂
As a German, yes the german accent is kinda weird but haus of holbein is nothing if not funny
We''ll turn this "vier" (four) into a "nine" so just say "ja" and don't say "nein"
as a german nativ speaker I feel like I have to tell you that "wunderbar" is still used quite often, it might not be in younger peoples daily use or "slang" (I truly don't know that), but it still exists quite regulary in my surroundings.
every time you said it isn't used anymore I wanted to pull my hair out😅😂
PINGU!!!
The American version of get down is so much better!
This is definitely my least favorite song from the show.
