The most important thing is to simply try something. Even if it doesn't turn out the way you want the first time, you've accomplished the most difficult task of starting.
I'll let you in on a secret. I still have props that don't turn out how I originally planned. Sometimes that's a good thing and other times I take it all apart and start over.
