Hey! You're very clear and we totally understand your way of thinking! It's very useful, thanks! There is another way to get prepared, to know this feeling you talk about : it's just to repeat "I will not be normal. I will be nervous. The sound of my cello will not be the same. All my mistakes will appear as horrible mistakes but they're not...". I like this technique (which comes from Jérôme Pernoo), I like taking time and repeating to myself these sentences :) Thanks for sharing with us your knowledge, we will be very happy if you make other videos (even on some technical aspects).
I have dealt with performance anxiety for years, especially in music school, and I’ve never been given this sort of guidance/advice. Thank you for giving me something tangible to try!
Thank you for this post! I first heard you play at Wigmore last year and have been a fan ever since both as a cellist and composer - I found your persian firedance very inspiring! Interesting concept and I agree that it is a feeling one must embrace and train to get comfortable with. All the best, Laure
Great advice! I'm not a musician but I think what you said in this video is very valuable and can be applied to everybody. I truly believe living in harmony with your fear can be very beneficial , and if you really can become friend with your fear, it can be your biggest motivation. Thank you for sharing!
thank you that is such a great idea and lovely of you to share it!!! I will always think of the Hulk - Technique from now on! Please keep doing that and also maybe lots of other cello practice inspiring things, it means so much to us cellists
Dear KIAN you are so very good ... yes, if I listen to you when you give your music prize, I've always noticed that you are so accompanied and guided with a high level of power ... greetings to your father who think so well and lovingly son Tobias Bassoon gave lessons ... all the best to you I believe in you ... ... am Schluss: Gesundheit 🤧 Dir lgs 😊
Good advise, I actually imaging I am playing a rock concert, every time I have to de a solo recital. Sometime I will listen to rock music before I walk onto the stage. It make me feel confident
Yeah that realy works on me Befor this video I felt the feeling you said Exitment not nervous First time it botters me very much so that my performance was a disaster Then i practiced in my privat time And after i dont know 4 mounths i guss I performed infront of my friend in school I asked them to come and hear my performance It was hard but little by little it improves! Than my second performance was completly fail-_- so i realised that its not enough I should think about it I should imagin that people are apart of my performance They are like my notes Each of them is an note You know imagining this helped me and know i'm not afraid Actually i like it and enjoy it very much Performing infront of people brings me peace:) "Sorry for the speling . My writing is horrible"
Very good advice, Kian. I also do something like that while preparing a performance. If the piece is particularly hard and/or new, I also do a kind of "slow motion" version: same exercise but VERY slow, with all the musical details and technically focused. It makes me feel better when I increase the speed. Liked your explanation, really enjoyable. Good job!
Kian, I heard about you from TwoSet's video about a non-musician seeing a cello. I love this idea of visualization, will definitely give it a try! You should do more videos like this!
it was a great video from a great musician...thank u for this....but it also would be great to share a video with us to how to listen to music and what do you trying to do while you listening to the piece of music???
