    'I can see this countryside being barren' It is already in the trough of Bowland. It is barren of Birds of Prey. They've all been shot by Gamekeepers.

      I agree! Grouse shooting management and red deer cause barren moorland landscapes in the name of providing employment in highland areas that would otherwise be depopulated.
      I have no doubt that re-wilding would vastly increase opportunities for employment and ancillary jobs in the leisure sector.

    When you’ve got Ian Botham writing in the well respected scientific journal The Daily Mail 🤣 Stating that if all Hen Harrier territories were taken, then driven grouse shooting wouldn’t be viable, what message is that sending out 😡
    As for the guy who opens and closes the video, if he’s been around for as long as he claims, why hasn’t he mentioned, modern intensive farming practices? Such practices leave no room for traditional farmland birds such as Corn Buntings, Yellowhammers, Turtle Doves, Linnets, Yellow Wagtails …… No insects to feed their young on and no winter stubble to feed in, for those species which are resident year round!
    Keep up the denial, which will eventually be your undoing 👍🏼

    Birds of prey need to reported by anyone who sees them on their land! Tag them with trackers and if that bird is found dead on someone's land other than natural death. As in shot, that person ought to be fined or jailed. In the U.S. if you kill a non game bird and are convicted you will pay the damages for what it would reasonably cost to replace it! Also be lucky to ever get a hunting license again! In my opinion its very unsportsmanlike to kill an animal especially if you don't intend to eat it.

      Hi Michael. Unfortunately that system could easily be abused and gamekeeper's framed. Wildlife groups have already staged bird killings on grousemoors and tried to blame keepers. Read my article: www.fieldsportschannel.tv/gamekeeper-persecution/ Thanks

      @@aborourke1969 You claim "bird killings" but cite one example - which I accept. That sort of abuse of the truth should not be allowed and the person doing it should be penalised.
      However, a 100 killings a year is not an unreasonable average estimate, with a massive rise last year. Yes, the source of the data is the RSPB, reported via the BBC
      www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-52667502
      (See link in that article '500 birds killed' over 5 years for my average)

    No animal should be killed for "sport" Chris Packham said "It could be as few as 100 people" which implies he doesn't know, he didn't say "he believes a tiny number of gamekeepers persecutes raptors." You are summarizing his words to suit your own agenda.

    Feel more research needs to be carried out on the predation of bop's by other bop's.
    There are no published records of Peregrines preying onharriers (Klem et al. 1985 ; Ratcliffe 1993 ; Rockenbauch2002 ; Drewitt and Dixon 2008 ; Sergio and Hiraldo 2008 ),although harassment of harriers by Peregrines is infre-Quently noted (B. O'Donoghue, personal observation).Additionally, there are a few non-published observations of Peregrines occasionally preying on harriers. For example, in England, during the 2003 breeding season, three recently fledged wing tagged juvenile Hen Harriers were located by radio-tracking in a Peregrine eyrie where the leg (with ring) of an adult male Hen Harrier was also found; in 2006, old remains of another tagged Hen Harrier were found by radio-tracking to a Peregrine plucking post (Murphy, unpublished data). Finally, a ringed French Montagu's Harrier was found in the nest of a Peregrine pair in Asturias(Northern Spain) in autumn 2008 ( http: //aves.eldelweb.com/Cantabria/ fi cha / 666-0-Aguilucho-Cenizo.html ).Rudebeck ( 1951 ) suggests that, in the migration season, some Peregrines may specialize on raptors such as Spar-rowhawks Accipiter nisus and Short-eared Owls Asiofl ammeus

      There seems to be some evidence that wing tagging is changing the behaviour of Peregrines to predate on hen harriers, needs more research as well.

    Agree that you do not need to persecute raptors so why do gamekeepers continue to poison, shoot and trap raptors? Because they believe these birds undermine their breeding programmes for driven grouse, pheasants, etc. it’s a simple solution really, all driven bird hunting should be banned - apart from the persecution of potential predators, the act of blasting away at what is effectively unnatural livestock is just cruel. It is not hunting, it’s description is a’blood sport’ and needs to the way of all the others that have been got rid of.

    • @fieldsportstv
      @fieldsportstv  Год назад

      Thanks for this. I think you may be making the mistake of believing the RSPB. Their 'bird crime' figures are based on reports they have received. The more reliable graph is the one from the police that shows how raptor persecution convictions have dropped to zero or near zero over the last 20 years. The RSPB confirms these figures. It explains this drop in numbers: it says that gamekeepers are better at hiding their crimes. We reject this explanation. It's Occam's razor that convicted gamekeepers lose their gun licences so any prospect of future work - therefore, they don't persecute raptors. Or you can believe the RSPB which, we believe, has a significant financial interest in getting rid of gamekeepers alongside an ideological interest in banning shooting. Note the RSPB president tweeting that people who go shooting are subhuman. / Charlie
