Nick, would be good to explain in the second part the restrictions on the land, this has a large plot but most of it is rustic land except the walled and fenced bit by the house so unless you want to farm it the rustic land isnt any use to anybody other than to look at and the downside maintaining it. we have looked at a few recently and sought advice the rustic classification makes it impossible for any rural tourism from what we have been told.

No. People are moving here in droves. We have three new neighbours, two Dutch families escaping Amsterdam, and a US couple from Silicon Valley. We ourselves came over from Spain after enduring the Franco-esque lockdown where the State bared its fangs via the Guardia Civil. I wouldn't return there to live. Portugal on the other hand has been wonderful for the 13 months we've been here and we (my family) loves it.

When I was a kid, in the 70’s, most people kept their dogs outside, and the sound of barking was normal. Over time, people keep their dogs inside more, in my part of California, so I hear it less. Plus, the cat craze, and I live in a condo (barkers not allowed).

@@Tuber_Dog 28 years ago I lived in the very north of Portugal for a short while, in a small village near Viano Do Castelo. My abiding memory were the pack dogs roaming the villages, barking all night. I hated it. I mentioned to my Portuguese friend that the situation had improved dramatically and he replied that the Gov't "intervened and sorted out the situation". Make of that what you will, but I guess it'll be a somewhat sad story.
I'm in the hills of the Algarve and I can hear dogs bark as I write. But not pack dogs. It's part of life here. If you don't like dogs, choose your house carefully, be mindful, that's all.

The land is so, so dry. Not nearly as lush and lovely as farther north.

Here are a few things you might be lucky enough to avoid : the hunters who tramp all over your land as if they own it ; the hunters who put poison down to kill anything that might interfere with the artificial rabbit warren they've just built ; the poison season ( January ) when your dog or cat might get poisoned by anyone who has a disagreement with you ; the local who still traps little birds ( I once caught ours with half a bucket full of dead robins ; the abandoned dogs ; the puppies or kittens in the rubbish bins ; the builders who dump their rubble wherever they can get way with it..... I'm sure there's more.

I don't really have the energy right now to respond to all of these points but if you don't have a fence, people are allowed to walk through your land. Come to think of it, if you haven't picked your fruit within 30 days of harvest time anyone else is welcome to help themselves to it (or something pretty close to that).

@@AlgarveAddicts I think someone is puling your leg. Try nicking people's crops where I live and you'll get shot. And all the orchards and plantations are putting fencing up to stop theft. Carobs in particular have become the target of thieves recently.

It's an old traditional law. Ask any of the older generation of locals about it.

Disappointing that you never got to the home and price that you talked about so much at the start of the video.

Hi Kirk, there's a part 2 that I did a week later. It's probably not apparent now (which is a problem) check here ruclips.net/video/U2rBLVEzcPg/видео.html
