I am a big fan of the minimalist graphics on downhill boards. They offer a great blank-ish canvas to customize. There's a bunch of nondescript woodgrain boards out there, but no other has the stickers and paintjob that mine has. DH decks get their graphics way less fucked up than street decks, so I'm way more willing to put effort into making it *mine*
I didn't like graphics of Phanthon Pranyama 4:56 to that level, that I was pasionately scrubing it on every curb that was on my way. I'm enjoying looking at all that scratches, covering middle of snake :)
I was a huge fan of Soda Factory and the now collectible Sector 9 “summer girls” decks. The themed graphics made the lines feel more like a family of a sort, sort of like each board was a cousin or sister to another
What's funny is I was a dedicated short board skater for like a decade before I became dedicated to downhill, so I got to skate on a ton of awesome graphics- yet some of my favorite graphics are on longboards. Have a pantheon Gaia and it's definitely among my top five, including popsicle graphics. Longboard graphics are becoming more unique I feel, it's just from certain companies
The Rotule Desert Eagle had a really cool graphic imo. It's really subtle, but the rising sun is actually the lower ply cut out to reveal the carbon fiber. Landyachtz graphics from 2010 from 2012 were prime too.
well, it takes a wee bit of consumer elbowgrease be applied but , they sort of do ' offer' blank versions ; ya just take an orbital sander for 5 minutes & you have your canvas
i appreciate a graphic but its far down the prioritization criteria list when downhill is the discipline. the only thing i look for is contruction quality of the brand , then thst particular deck ( ply, wood core or foam , layer design , top n bottom + any carbon or glass layering , the adhesive type, the durability, the shape ( nose ,then rear) the wheelbase options . Next choice checklist item is ergo in every position possible but especially tuck. Weight of deck alone then w hardware . After all of that, i usually might notice anything artistic or design related. if it looks like i can own it for 75yrs & itll survive,i 💛 it. Most of my dh setps have carbon fiber on bottom ...in music city , we are into GMR ,spined boards & rollingtree dh decks ( Chroma) due to their build quality.
I understand if you are soending the money for fancy materials and construction you want to show that off, but come on 9.81 boards and other carbon dh decks are just sad. They all look so cookie cutter the same as each other. You can make a graphic that still shows off your cool construction while lot being a blank wall of carbon. I adore my Rayne Mitty Pro for it’s graphic. It shows off the wood grain through the glass and still has a sick graphic on-top. Pantheon does similairly, Landy really dropped the ball with the el pelligro, but the small blind looks sick, and so does the obsidian. Everyone else needs to take notes.
How do you do a video about downhill or skateboards graphics and not even mention Sector 9?! Sector 9 does not make ugly or plain-looking decks. Never have, never will. They make some of THE nicest looking decks you'll ever ride. My Fort Point Eden black dip, bamboo is a work of art by an actual Hawaiian artist named Kenny Vidinich and is easily my favorite cruiser deck and Sector 9 is famous for it's deck artwork, such as the Downhill Division Series, as well as many others that command high prices among longboard collectors and as for skateboard decks? Some of Real's Jim Thiebaud's decks like Hanging Klansman are actually on display in some art museums.
Pantheon has some of the best looking shapes I've seen, but as a Christian I will never support a company that honors the devil in thier name and all of their graphics. And I hope I'm not the only believer who feels this way. Even before I was a believer I always thought it was incredibly corny to put pentagrams/demons/bathomet/witchcraft symbols on skate graphics. It's a failed cornball attempt at being edgy that just makes you seem like a punk teenager who wears anarchy patches on his Jean jacket.
I see your perspective. I think that most of the appreciation for them is found in the details of the image. Not exactly what makes great art imo but it's way more than most companies give. Pretty low bar amongst the scene
Give us the official downhill graphic tier list

pop pop
The best graphics I've seen so far have been many pantheons
I do love the hot rod pin stripes from Madrid. Those are my favorite from Madrid.
@@Franciscobocanegraww I've got heavy love for the caricature models from the early 2010s from Madrid. Should've shown some in the vid

To many to count!

I wanted a rotule desert eagle so bad
surprised the kebbek 25th anniversary line wasnt mentioned as a minimalist example.
Yeah I didn't give any for minimalist. Probably would say zenit, rocket, luca. Lots more in the no-graphic category
whats a con cave #supermustachepower
They should just offer a blank and a graphic version of each board.

Ayoooo say whatup to doyle for me
The downhill skateboarding world has had some of if the not the laziest graphics in skateboarding.

lmao last good s9 graphics were the dh division 2015. Tye dye 2018? Booty. Blocky colors 2020? Booty. Does S9 even make DH boards anymore? Check again
@@hopscotch6596 Ok, be a snob if that's what makes you happy.
S9 just isn't relevant anymore.Downhill division graphics were okay.
Pantheon, Rayne and Landy have the best graphics, Madrid the worst
This is the based take right here.
