  • Portland, Oregon is an amazingly diverse city with a BIG personality. It's been the center of a lot of slanderous propaganda in the media as of late as we've dealt with severe homelessness, drug problems, and many intense riots during the Police Brutality Movements. Portland is an awesome place to live as there is so much today in the outdoors and hikes, we have the Oregon Coast just over an hour's drive away, and we have Multnomah Falls 45 minutes east just the beautiful Willamette River running through town. If you are in town you have your pick of breweries, coffee shops, and bookstores (Powell's is the most well-known) you have weird and strange stores throughout, great doughnut shops (don't go to Voodoo Doughnuts), amazing food carts, great views of Mt. Hood from Pittock Mansion, and St. Johns Bridge, and it's just a great Oregon city. It's tough to see the slander, but I hope that I can make some videos that shine a light on how cool this city can be. It's very LGBTQ+ friendly and a great city for all types of people.
    I wish it was more diverse, I wish there was less crime, and I wish the city could return to its old identity, and I hope to be a voice for the city, Love you Portland.

      I completely agree - it’s become a punching bag, and that’s not to say there are problems, that’s for sure. But I’m a believer it will get better, it’s the crime & homelessness that are major problems. But yes, there are areas that are amazing here, the city is great but I feel like it’s more the location of the city so close to a ton of nature, mountains, lakes, rivers, beaches etc. anyway… I’m ranting now haha, thanks for watching and the comment ✌️

      You're gonna take a long flight to be disappointed. Portland has very few redeeming qualities. It's a largely vacant city with bad food and clueless people. Yes I said it and I meant it. Portlands food scene is gutter level. The only people who actually think Portland has great food are either lying bc they have some skin in the game or they simply don't know any better. Their beer and weed are really good though- they do those things very well. Their coffee is also good. Coming from NYC (if you are from NYC area) you will likely be disappointed. The city is close to some very beautiful forests and Mt Hood is awesome.

      This is the type of comment I appreciate: Honest. It's identity has sort of been lost, and I miss it too - it's definitely still there but there is a giant shadow on it due to what I believe to be the main 3 interrelated factors: Crime, Drugs, Homelessness. Just so you know, I am excited to make way more Portland Content in the next year. I'm backlogged with a Europe Trip and Oregon in General, but people need to see our Quirky city in positive light.

      I just spent a week there for vacation (first visit) and I fell in love with the place. Can't wait to go back and even considering what a move out there someday would look like. Yes, Portland has big city problems but we didn't have any experiences that made us feel unsafe. We stayed in Beaverton and found it to be a cozy place.

    • @thomasdimes8875

      Spoiler guys I was homeless here with my wife for about ten years. We ran a small cleaning company, but had a bad combo of events happen in short succession. Now I've been off the streets about two years and since then things are scary different amongst the homeless. Some of the best, just honest real people I knew were homeless heroin addicts that literally gave you the clothes of their backs while keeping you from withdrawal. See fentanyl wasn't just gradually introduced to us. See one day there were junkies, and tweakers. Then the next day there was no longer heroin. It was literally gone. Finding anything but fentanyl and fentanyl laced drugs is literally not possible. I don't like the way it makes people act. Imagine the intense addictive qualities of crack cocaine but now physical withdrawal is coming for you. B now I know crack is addictive but a few days sleep and a turkey sandwich will fix that. Opiate withdrawal can last months. So crack with withdrawal and fetty does not fix pain. See I was apart of over prescription doctor's on my late teens until my early thirties. Oxycodone, heroin help pain. Fentanyl puts you to sleep occasionally permanently. Sorry to go on a tangent but things here are different. The cartels from Mexico left overnight and Honduras cartels took over. A year ago you didn't see a hondorin dealer EVER. NOW THERE ARE OVER 50 a day in the dt areas. I miss Portland, v hell I miss the old street way. These angry, addicts forget death is permanent.

    Love that you showcased some of the positives instead of emphasizing the depressing parts. It’s not like anyone isn’t already aware of our drawbacks. , which this place is truly much more. But it is really a shame that most tourists come here and focus on Downtown, which is easily the most culturally devoid region of Portland. The desirable areas of northeast and southeast Portland are where you wanna be to get a good taste of Portland culture and more unique attractions

      I've lived in both cities, and while there are some similarities, they are very different. Salt Lake has huge blocks and wide streets, Portland has tiny blocks and a lot of narrow one-way streets. Portland gets all 4 seasons, but by SLC standards, only Spring and Fall. Portland gets about 4 inches of snow in a normal year, Salt Lake can easily get 4 feet. Portland is the strip club and microbrewery capitol of the world, Salt Lake is the world headquarters for the LDS church, etc, etc.

    • @JacksonMeyer
      @JacksonMeyer  11 месяцев назад

      I agree with you completely, I don't recall exactly what I said... but when people use the word 'diverse' I think people immediately think that it's referring to people's race, where I feel like I use it in my daily vernacular to describe really anything that has variety. Like, Portland has diverse landscapes, food options, politics, etc... I think that's where I was headed, becuase true, it's not the most racially diverse city.

      Lmao there's a bookstore, some bridges, a sign, a rock garden, a basketball court, a restaurant with a big screen and a bush! Get your plane tickets before they sell out!!

      @@Antisnowflake503Nice guess. I'm from NYC actually. That's an ACTUAL city. Ive traveled to many other smaller cities across the US and Portland is easily one of the worst. The food sucks. The people suck. The housing sucks. The nightlife sucks. It could be better but Portlanders don't know enough to see what's wrong with it. You can't improve if you think nothings wrong. Portland is a joke, its vacant, boring af and basically a bunch of unwashed ravers, geriatric crust punks, vagabond homeless and methheads with a passive agressive streak. The only people who think Portland isn't pathetic- are portlanders and ironically- some people from the Midwest. You guys brag about absolutely nothing on the regular and you are arrogant for no reason lol. NYC has issues also- all cities do- but NYC has actual culture, actual food, it's chaotic and it works at the same time. Portland is simply a DUMP and a boring one at that. To all tourists- skip Portland and just go straight to the nature- you won't be missing anything in that city. To all Portlanders defensive of their "cuisine" - visit a real city, eat at some real restaurants and go back to teach Portlanders how to do it properly. If you come to NYC bring some currency and ask the locals where the best places to eat are. You honestly could even just go to Long Island and hit a few Diners and it'll top literally ANYTHING Portland has foodwise.
