How have I not seen this video already :-) I'm a fan of James and Sarah's photography, what an awesome van and looks like the hard work paid off as it's amazing. Thanks for sharing
Just looked at your video. brought back memories of our own build on a T5 in 2019. Still enjoying it . It would be very hard to part with it. Bit late on your video but it is more relevant now as a lot of people are attempting these self builds. Well done.
WOW! Excellent workmanship, you two! Thanks so much for sharing your dream for independent road trips and a glimpse into your adventures in Scotland. I love your humility in saying that neither of you had any experience, yet obviously you offset that need with thoughtful planning and preparation along with considerable patience during the process. This is truly cool and you deserve the joy you are getting from your work. I hope that you have years of pleasure touring the Highlands and Lowlands of that beautiful country (and the nations south of it). : )
You both did a wonderful job on your conversion. It looks professional, rather than a first time DIY congrats! Wish you had shown how the bed works, but with that said thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks Maggie, we actually part converted our previous camper (put new flooring down, re-wired it, had the units and bed covers replaced), but nothing to the level of this. We're hoping to do a comprehensive van tour over on our channel soon, where we will show the bed pulled out :)
The professional converters charge anything from £8k - £12k+, so to do this conversion for around £4k is a great saving. I've been tempted to buy a fully converted van but to have a newish T5 camper is around the £30k, albeit with an elevated roof. A pop-top costs around £3.5k through a converter, so I reckon I should budget for £7.5k-£8k for a self-convert using professionals for the roof. That's one job I wouldn't want to tackle. Plus the cost of the van. Hopefully, I could save £10k by self-converting. That's a lot of money. I take my hat off to you two for what you've achieved. Brilliant job and an inspiration to the rest of us hopeful amateurs. Thanks for posting.
Thank you :) We've since put an elevating roof onto our van :) you definitely do save a lot by converting yourself and we've got to be honest, we've had 2 experiences with 'professional convertors' and the quality of their workmanship is absolutely atrocious! We've done a much better job ourself, no corners cut to save time or money and attention to detail on everything we did. Good luck with your conversion!
saw the conversion video. Really great to see it in a bit more detail. I think the guys might be from my neck of the woods. Great stuff. Keep on keeping on!!
Hi James & Sarah I’m blown away by your conversation it’s brilliant, you guys could start your own business converting camper vans, amazing job guys looks very professional beautiful just subscribed and thumbs up 👍🏻😁
Neil Cox thank you very much 😊 we did talk about converting vans, but the time it would take out of our other two businesses would be too much and we’d never have time to enjoy our own van 😊
im looking to do this and i'm going the same way away to look at a few vans this weekend but not easy to find a good vw in scotland as they seem to be be rare second hand but new costing over 20k i want to convert mine to be used as a camper and put my bike in use it for a everyday vehicle use it as a van to some extent but still have the camper usage tempted to go all out in do a van conversion to a home and just travel :D all good ideas in theory atm tho hope you have many fun trips in ur vw:D
sick does sick mean good or does it mean vomit? I think it is an inspirational build, first- class. I salute you two people, You are a formidable force. Two beautiful souls, thank you for sharing. I know the video is 3 years old ( and some ). but it is the stage I am at now. I been viewing VW transporters with great interest . I not going to rush , as I am a total " green- horn " novice, needing to abandon my restraints and " GET-STUCK-IN " . This is where your videos ( and the whole forum on RUclips). Inspire me , and I guess there is many many like minded people. appreciate the download, very grateful
@@royferguson3909 in British slang we use the word sick to describe something that is good. Can also mean vomit. This is old now probably dont use the term sick quite as much
Hi both. I hope Admo is recovering well and that you will soon be on the road again?! I know you got your units from EVO design, but I am struggling to find the bedbords (front and back) you are using - there is a long list to choose from, but they dont mean much to me...! I like the idea of a full length at the back and a door big enough for a Porta Potti. Do you recall what bed boards you chose? Cheers.
Anna Birthe Ladefoged Hi Anna, drop Evo a message and say you saw our conversion video and ask them about custom cut bed board. We measured ours up to the spec we wanted and they custom cut it for us like that 😊
Love the van, well done! We are having gloss white units with sparkly black top in our van and love the look of your R & R bed, where did you get it from? Thanks
Very nice conversion guys, did you have any issues insuring a self build? Do you have 240v hook up? The worrying thing for me would be doing the electrics, did you wire it all yourselves and at what point of the build?
Thanks :) No our insurance company actually insured us as a camper in progress, which gave us 3 months of 'conversion' insurance. Now it's registered with the DVLA as a motorhome and we've had no issues with getting it insured. We had help from my dad for the electrics, put all the wires in first before doing anything else (as we wanted them hidden behind the panels, the connected the up once the units and control panel were in :)
It's a Fiamma bike rack, but I really wouldn't recommend it. They don't fit the van properly (common issue) and they don't feel that sturdy. I'd suggest going for a Thule tow bar one if you've got barn doors :)
Hi Wayne, you can drop us a message on RUclips or if you search for 'The Adventure of Sarah and James' on Facebook, we have a page you can message us on :)

It's because we actively post the interior and what we do on the internet, anyone recognising the number plate will instantly know whats inside the van and it becomes more of a target :) it's not to do with secrecy, more security :)
Ah so they bought a kit and self converted? Also i cringed when i saw their reflectix install someone needs to point this out to everyone building new vans, its useless when its used without an airgap...
We bought the units pre-cut, everything else was done ourselves. Our foil insulation has got air gaps, we used bottle insulation and made pillows, creating an air gap between. However the reason we used the foil wasn't for it's insulation properties per se, it was to create a waterproof barrier around the bottle insulation to avoid condensation. A year on and it's been working a treat.
I like that it's bright. A lot of van conversions are dark and gloomy. They also need more lights. You did well , good on you.
What If yeah they've done a fantastic job!
You guys did a great job considering you had no previous experience.
That's bloody awesome.

Totally awesome - conversion, craftsmanship, couple, ideas. Beautiful, do enjoy all travels.

Brings back memories of our T5 LWB Evo conversion
Great video thanks for uploading
Love the quality of the work. Guys you should be really proud and a great inspiration to us all.
Fantastic job! Looks very professionally built! Well done
I saw their videos before. Their van is absolutely gorgeous!
Awesome job! Adding the side windows are cool. I like the push button pull knobs.

Daniel Barnes thank you 😊
Very well done! So many thoughtful touches throughout!

23 days... wow! It looks great!! Love the time-lapse
Thank you :)
excellent video you two.enjoy one another and thanks for sharring
Bloody lovely, really inspiring. Thank you both.
Im not even into camping and I feel like building one 😀. Those units make life far easier for a self builder to do a smart job 😎👍

Would like to have seen the bed set up.
So would I, I do love this van.
If you look at our latest video (Snowdonia - March 2017), we show the bed out and being put away :)
Beautifully done. Enjoy 😊
That's amazing. Still not sure how much I'd be able to do myself given my busy life, but just goes to show that you can with a bit of determination :)
true!
All the t5s are the same but these guys make it special, good job
4wd some thank you, very much appreciated 😊
You should be proud of yourself. Fantastic job.
Thank you :)
Everything is nice even the background music is also nice.
thanks!
That's a very well done conversion.
‘Dead Lines’ I like that ! Tho I can’t do everything myself, gotta get things done !
Me, electrics, lights, tv next 🙏🏼🤣😝👍🏼 We get there ....
absolutely awesome guys.
Cheers!
Well done guys. Take my hat off to you.
Thank you :)

Hi verywell done...can I ask where did you get you kitchen and bed from plz.
Hi both. I hope Admo is recovering well and that you will soon be on the road again?! Love the van, well done! We are having gloss white units with sparkly black top in our van and love the look of your R & R bed, where did you get it from? Thanks
Mark Dixon thanks 😊 we got the bed from eBay, a guy near Ilkeston and then the upholstery was done by VanTrim in Alfreton.
Very nice conversion guys, did you have any issues insuring a self build? Do you have 240v hook up? The worrying thing for me would be doing the electrics, did you wire it all yourselves and at what point of the build?

Hey guys great job, quick question, the aluminium back panel you used, how much space was behind it to fit the power panel?
Hey, Thanks :) The area that the power panel is fitted lines up with the open area in the panel, so there's probably about 2 inches behind it.
You're doing such an amazing job! :)
Yeah!
Maex 😊😊
Would have liked to seen how the bed unfolds with you're sleeping arrangements
Hey, if you check out our Snowdonia vlog on our channel, we show the bed pulled out :)
Awesome guys!
Well done a credit very professional looking
John Roddy thank you 😊
Awesome...well done ...
Good job
what a beautiful thing.....the vans not bad either.
Hi Guys. I was wondering how you fit the evo window surround? Thanks
Really nice van, how much did all the material and parts cost? Thx
J Rowe it cost us about £4000 for the whole interior 😊
Perfekt self build. Gruß Markus und Monthy from Germany
Hi Good Video, how much did it cost not including the van purchase?
when you say research, could you share what books you used? videos, links, etc?
We didn't use any books, we just used Google, the T5 Forum and various Facebook groups :)
Nice one...
Does anyone know the name or model of the bike rack there using right at the start of the video and at 4.03 I think
It's a Fiamma bike rack, but I really wouldn't recommend it. They don't fit the van properly (common issue) and they don't feel that sturdy. I'd suggest going for a Thule tow bar one if you've got barn doors :)
Love it :)
Where did you get the external tanks from?
Alex High hey, they’re from CAK tanks 😊
How could I get in touch with these guys as I am looking at doing a conversion myself?
Hi Wayne, you can drop us a message on RUclips or if you search for 'The Adventure of Sarah and James' on Facebook, we have a page you can message us on :)
Were did u get your units and bed from
I love your design. ..except for you need a top so you can Stand..
Awsome job❗✌💖🎼🎵🎶
Peace Dove that's on the wish list 😊 we just don't have the funds for one at the moment, we'd rather get out and enjoy it for a while.
Do they have to kneel and cook? If so, that's quite inconvenient. Overall, I like the build and video!
Kameisha Rice we’ve actually had a poptop fitted since, so we can stand up 😊
What year is the van? :) loved the videos!
JoPeMc it’s 2013 😊
oof i will never get that minon pillow off my mind now
Looks very nice, but too small for me.
I was wondering where did you get the back seat?
heath avery it was made by someone on eBay based near Derby.
Thank you
Another Great video but why do you blur out the number plate?
Matrix because they asked us to. Thanks for watching 👍
How much did it cost to do it yourself?
Mangoprint about £5k for the conversion including the diesel heater and fitting of it by a professional.
Show how the bed works
Nice
da1698 😊
From which company are the cabinets ?
they say in the video :)
I never understand why people blur out the license plates. It's not like they are in any way secret, given that they are in plain view all day, any day.

Fab
He reminds me a lot of Jason Segel... his mannerisms.
Aydg Gonz you're not the first person to say that about him 😂 I genuinely can't see it, but that's possibly because I see him all the time.
i see it!
I really wanted to see the bed 😑
Hey, if you check out our Snowdonia vlog on our channel, we show the bed pulled out :)
what was the first you pulled out of pan for cooking . i didnt understand
Where do you guys sleep?
this
sarah sunny the seats pull down into a bed 😊
Adventures of Sarah & James Ahh! Oh well :). Someday I really wanna live in a van and see places :). Cheers guys! :)
The rate of dinner guest suicides at their house must be astronomical
The reason we have a van is so we don't have to have guests 😂
Not gonna lie they needed a pop up roof he looks tall bet his knees kill after moving about in that in the rain
THE BUILD MASTER he’s 6”7 🙈 we’ve actually had a poptop fitted since 😊
wheres the bed?sometimes the people spend more time talking than needed.which spoils the video.
Great video way too low inside.
