    I really enjoyed your review. Thank goodness for Kaladin defeating depression, Dalinar being an unambiguously good dude, and Shallan being witty without too much emotional baggage. It's all gravy from here on my friend. Good reads ahead.

    Awesome! So glad you've discovered the gloriousness that is The Stormlight Archive! You should take your lady friend out to a very nice dinner as a way to say "thank you!" The more you read these books -- and discover the inter-connectivity to the rest of the Cosmere -- the more you will yearn to re-read the stories at deeper levels. In addition to the Cosmere, I really love how each of the main characters are so complex, and each experiences their own internal conflictions. For example, in The Way of Kings, Kaladin is a soldier that is very adept at killing, but he was raised as a doctor's son and training to be a doctor himself, so he is also very good at healing people. In other words, he wants to heal people, but find that he often times must kill, which is very conflicting for him. Speaking of the main characters, here are the main characters in each book. I won't spoil it for your, but you'll soon discover that each book also has a main Order of the Knights Radiant...
    1- The Way of Kings -- Kaladin
    2- Words of Radiance -- Shallan
    3- Oathbringer -- Dalinar
    4- Rhythm of War -- Venli
    5- Wind and Truth -- Szeth
    Happy reading, future Worldhopper!!

    Just based on your reaction, I expect you to enjoy Words of Radiance (for the most part), Oathbringer will be the challenging one, and Rhythm of War will be another you will enjoy.
    I just started Wind and Truth today so here into the Journey before destination.

      FWIW, I just re-read Oathbringer and it might be my favorite in the series now. It used to be Words of Radiance, but Oathbringer has some really deep connections to the Cosmere that, once you realize them, make you appreciate Oathbringer that much more. Note: I have not read Wind and Truth...yet. Happy reading, Worldhoppers!

      @@michaelarnold1150 100%! Sadly, I did not really care for Oathbringer after my first read though. However, I now understand this was because I didn't allow myself to truly "dive in" to the complexity of it all. This time, as I came across characters or events that seemed like they might have some significance, I would ask Grok for a quick explanation. That's when the nerd boners started really happening! I feel like the wool has been Lift-ed (see what I did there!) off my eyes and now I can see things with clarity!

    Stormlight is one of my all time favorites, and I'm a massive fantasy nerd. I'm about 25% of the way through Wind and Truth and loving it so far. Way of Kings is still my favorite of them though, in fact my first and only tattoo is on my forearm and is simply "For the bridgemen". I wont spoil it for people that haven't read it yet, but that scene gives me chills every time I read it.

    I'm on the latest book already - picked up the series after I finished Mistborn and Warbreaker, it just so happened my copy of the latest book arrived a day before I was finished RoW. I only recently got back to reading, I used to read a ton a decade or two ago. Sanderson is super engaging and easy to read for me, so far Stormlight gets better and better with every new chapter. I don't feel the bulk of the books at all.

      Dude that’s so cool to hear. I hope you like it. I think part of the fun of reading it is that his fan base is so active right now and there’s a lot of people to yap with about it. I don’t think I’ll ever be a full cult member but the ambition of tying such a huge universe together is hard to deny. I have my qualms with it which I might talk about at some point, but they’re more to do with the marketing and selling of the books.

    Just so you’re aware, the interlude with the three guys at the restaurant, all of them are Worldhoppers! The only one you’ll know at this point is Demoux from Mistborn! The giveaway was the scar on the head. The other two are from other standalone novels.

  • @ciaranirvine
    @ciaranirvine 2 дня назад

    Words of Radiance is if anything even better than WoK, Shallan is the flashback character in that one, and the Sanderlanche is INSANE so I think you'll love it. At this point you don't really need to read any of the rest of the Cosmere, though I'd probably try Warbreaker (its a fairly short standalone) before you read Oathbringer - it's not 100% necessary by any means, but there are cool easter eggs. I started off myself with Way of Kings and it was only after Oathbringer that I circled back and read all the rest!

      That’s odd. I’m on Rhythm of War right now and so far Way of Kings is my favorite. I love all the books but nothing beats the ending of Way of Kings for me. It’s also the most tightly paced out of all of them. The whole Die Hard thing (to avoid spoilers for those who haven’t read RoW yet) goes on faaaaar too long and starts far too late. Oathbringer gets extra points because even though the first half is a bit draining everything after the Kholinar battle is incredible

      I love Malazan but you could argue the entire first FIVE books are all just set-up lol

    • @doge8825
      @doge8825 2 дня назад

      @@ciaranirvineI’d honestly argue that while books 1,2 and 5 are pure setup, and 3,4,6,7, and 8 are continuations based on that setup, it’s not until the final 2 books, and really the second half of book 10 that we get any serious payoff to the overall story. Malazan is a spaghetti mess of themes and loosely intersecting plots for over 90% of the series, with a clear standout emerging in book 6 but still not fully taking center stage until books 9 and 10. So I think those 2 books are the actual main storyline, and everything up to that point is just Erickson putting a metric ton of things in place and thoroughly showing us why the are where they are

    This was a lovely review! I am rereading the series in prep to read Wind and Truth and just finished Words of Radiance today, so the perfect time to watch a review. I think, based on your review, Words of Radiance is really going to be a hit for you! It is great to see someone whose favourite character is Shallan, I find most people have Kaladin as their favourite at this point. I myself am a Dalinar girl through and through - I am a sucker for the wisened fighter turned leader/diplomat archetype - though I love Kaladin and Shallan a lot. The Sanderlanch is real and it is truly one of my favourite reading experiences, thus why Sanderson is one of my favourite authors. So interested to hear your thoughts of the character developments next book, but especially in Oathbringer! Would also love to maybe hear some theories in your review of Words of Radiance as it gives you a bit more to think about for the overarching plot.

    Man, if you don't enjoy discussions of mental health and flashbacks, this series might get tedious at times. The entire premise of the series is that broken, traumatized people CAN work through their trauma and mental health to overcome. WoK is considered Kaladin's book because most of the flashbacks and discussion of mental health revolve around him. That will shift to Shallan in the next book, followed by Dalinar in the 3rd, and so on. I guess my point is, brace yourself lol. There's more depression simulations coming😅
