I love the explanation of the three different types of soprano players and the differences in their tone and approach to the horn. Particularly, seeing the soprano as either the next few octaves of a tenor vs. an entirely different instrument. Nice sound on the soprano. I have been playing soprano on and off for 2 years and switched from a one peice straight soprano to a curved then back to a two peice straight, I also play Alto sax and my alto tone is dark, resonant and projecting but far from stuffy. I play a Yanagisawa AWO2 and a Selmer Claude Delangle and that gives me the resonance and the darker tone I am after and the porjection I want. With my new soprano, I have been playing it for the past few months and spent a lot of time on it. My current mouthpiece is a Selmer Concept and 2.75 Legere European Cut clarinet reeds and I like the tone I get with it but want to improve it a lot, especially the second octave and above. My tone currently is round, dark and I can project well if I need, but it is not too dark or nazal sounding. I almost sounds like a slightly higher version of my alto tone just in a different key. I am trying to get a kind of oboe like tone, not the nazal tone some think is Oboe like on soprano, but more of a sweet, smooth full tone with good projection if I need it. I have tried SYOS mouthpieces before and I personally didn't like them, partly because they have thin tips and I find if I play a mouthpiece with a thin tip, I can't get that smooth sound I am after, I just get too much buzz so I tend to like slightly thicker tip mouthpieces like Selmers as they dampen some of that buzz. I am thinking of getting a Selmer S80 D mouthpiece as I want more defination between each note than I get on the Concept. I have a Vandoren SL3 but the bore is far to wide for my neck cork without a lot of tape where as the Concept has a tight fit. Compared to alto mouthpieces, I have found soprano mouthpiece bore sizes very inconsistant.
You might have said this in the video. Apologies if you did. I've found that intonation gets worse as the tip opening increases. Probably more so on soprano. I see in a reply below you're using 5*. I think in terms of my tone becoming prettier as I go from larger to smaller saxophones (or at least having pretty available.) I played a VD S15 for quite a while on straight sop. I wanted more power, etc. so I started trying others up to an VD S35. This didn't go well for me. I ended up on a JJ HR 5* which is more open than the S15. The JJ HR* has worked out well. The number designations on Syos and JJ seem to have the same opening. I've added a curved to my collection. You had a good video on players moving to curved as they aged. So, I'd like have a darker option and probably more open. Is there any don't go past this opening in your mind?

I find the Soprano is a different animal to the other saxes. Treat it as such and you will be fine.

Very nice sound! I started playing soprano a few months ago. I'm using a Yamaha 4C, which plays well, but it is a bit brighter than your SYOS.
I use a Yamaha 6C. People tell my I have a good sound. Happy with that
I use s/s mps on my tenor and alto but suspect may be too piercing on the sop.
My voice reference, for the soprano, is Jess Gillam!

You have to be so careful on tip openings with the soprano. This tip opening was based on my vintage Selmer soloist that I was playing before the SYOS
