Blood clots are clamps of blood which harden over time to stop cuts and wounds from bleeding. One of the most common types of blood clots in children is what we call deep vein thrombosis or
DVT. DVT can occur in the deep veins of a leg or of an arm. When the blood clot fuse the interior
of the vein obstructing the blood flow and causing complications. The best way to prevent blood clots and DVT is to maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise. That is going on daily walks and participating in other aerobic exercise such as swimming, that can improve blood circulation and prevent new blood clots from forming. Also, stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water reduces the risk of blood clotting by maintaining a liquified consistency in the blood that is keeping it fluid.
Avoid substances that dehydrate the body such as caffeine and alcohol. Importantly, avoid smoking because it increases the likelihood of platelets sticking together and damaging the lining of blood vessels. Finally, make sure you keep your home and vehicle a smoke-free environment.
Exercise. Stay hydrated. Avoid substances that dehydrate the body.
