Great start of a story. Wish there was the story though. But thanks for uploading, I thought I knew all of King’s work but obviously didn’t. Appreciated :)
King's usual mesmerizing and immersive storytelling quickly pulls you in then steadily increases your interest and curiosity as to what is happening, but suddenly ends without delivering any resolution or explanation. No hint of what was occurring, nothing that informs what a reploid is, where they're from, why they're here. In fact , no mention of the titular beings at all after the first paragraph. This seems much more of a 1st chapter to longer narrative than completed a short story. The ending is not really an ending. It simply stops after adding another unexplainable bit of evidence that points towards something being amiss with our own familiar reality. Sort of...
FINALLY a narrative exploration of how the discovery of X influenced the development of the Reploids before the Maverick Viru-awwww shit this isn't that at all.
I am not a King fan, but I thought I try this one. Right from the beginning, the feeling of the Johnny Carson Tonight Show feels dead, not how things feel before a show of any kind at all. And the audience thought, “ After all they represent amerika.” Yeah, right. That’s what they were thinking - not what Johnny was going to do his intro, not about the guests! Sorry, but ridiculous! Still not a King fan! Although I’m sure he’s a really good guy. . .
Ditch the ANNOYING LOUD 🎶 in the beginning!
Some of us like to listen to these as we fall asleep! 🙄
