It's not ignorance nor conscientious stupidity. It's an ancient hygiene standard that few cultures have abandonned, the same cultures that replaced water cleaning after toilet with toilet paper cleaning (that doesn't clean anything after all). Cultures have different hygiene standards. Just look at a comparaison between different countries on STDs and male genital infections, if you are as inlightened as you pretend. Plus, it's not more painful than taking off a wisedom tooth.
Your comment came out as word saled. What do you mean for each region? Be specific. Circumcision has decreased but is still widespread in the US, is not common in Europe other then for religion (mainly Islam) or medical necessity, and is believed to be low in Latin America but there is not good data for most of the later region. As one commenter mentions here it isn't common in Brazil (though surveys show it to be somewhat common in a few parts of Brazil) but in Mexico one recent estimate was about 24%. The 0.1% figures for countries here are all bogus and without evidence, - they are for countries without data or estimates or even where some (unofficial) estimates that do exist have been ignored, but they are generally non circumcising countries at least in most cases.
Being that America is flooded with so many immigrants, many of these men aren't from countries that circumcised. Many that have come into America from Mexico and other places are not circumcised. The circumcision rates for America are false/not accurate. I have to assume that the Mexican population and refugees flooding into America is not counted in this rating.
The figure given for the USA is the high end estimate of all males in that country. Defunding in some states, better access to information, as well as widespread immigration from non genital cutting cultures have all contributed to the rate for infants falling to just over 50%.
I believe they are for men Born in each country, not immigrants. They do include those of all races and backgrounds. Most estimates have about half or slightly more of US born Latino's males circumcised, the lowest of all major US ethnic groups but still extremely widespread. Also only about 14% of the US is actually foreign born overall, with rates much higher in major global metro areas. But much of the US actually lives in small to mid size metro regions or in the not vary diverse (on average) exurbs and far outer suburbs these days. The majority of Latino adults and a large fraction of Asian adults as well are US born.
Also the under 1% numbers are simply countries without data or estimates and little religious circumcision. They are almost certainly false though circumcision is probably minimal in at least most of them. Others are extreme low estimates that controdict others. Brazil for example is most commonly estimated to have a 5-7% circumcision rate not 1.3%. while for Puerto Rico it's over one third of men circumcised.
@@jjpetersen5296 the figure for the US is for adult men, and is not the high end but is in the upper middle of estimates. More recent estimates for newborn circumcision are about 55%-58% but that's only for reported newborn circumcision performed in hospitals and does not include office procedures (now quite common in the Western US) nor religious ritual circumcision. Other survey data shows newborn circumcision rates in the US to have gone down from the past but to still be 2/3 or more of male infants. The fact is however that we don't really know. But there is definitely an effort to minimize the portrayed rate as a form of propaganda by anti circumcision activists.
The figures for countries such as Costa Rica are also not 0.2%. The world population review figures for Latin America are mostly at the extreme low end of estimates which are unreliable in general. Costa Rica like other L.A. countries does not have any offical statistics nor good estimates on circumcision but it is widely reported as being common in Costa Rica as well as in Panama and Peru, with the latter being a more recent phenomenon. In Mexico the most recent estimates are of a nearly 25% circ. rate compared to older estimates averaging around 15%.
