    I do like this version. I am fortunate enough to have a few of Jacks hand tied versions locked away to keep as a reference. I was lucky enough to take a tying class at his home before he got sick. His flies are timeless.

      Thanks Pete, lucky man! I also have quite a few of Jack's most famous patterns in my collection, he was a great fly tyer!

      I also have a softhackle deceiver of his stashed away to keep as a reference. I am slowly grabbing his books as they come up for sale. So much information he had to share.

    Thank you for sharing! Super simple tie and it looks killer to me! I like everything about this fly, I'm sure the Smallies my my river will go nuts for it. The fly has a very buggy look to it, the body segments, the single piece of flash boo for easy sight, the hackle for leggy body, and the high floating foam really add up to a very nice pattern! Thanks again for sharing, and what a treat to have the designer show you himself the pattern!

      Thanks Michael, yes it is truly a great pattern from Jack that I am sure will work very well on the samallies.

    The Gartside Gurgler is one of my favorite flies for smallmouth bass (fresh water). So many good variations of the basic design. I tie them from 2 cm for panfish up to 15 cm long for pike (a coating of UV resin on the foam helps with durability). If I had but two fly patterns to use for all my fishing the Gurgler would be one and a Clouser Minnow the other. All black and all white are my best producers and a perch pattern does well at times. Great fly, great designer - you are lucky to have had first hand instructions from the master! Cheers! Hank

    Really like this pattern, like how you tied in the foam, marking it with the db needle and then also marking and tying in the flashback giving a much neater finish. Will definitely have a go at this one

    Curious why you use multiple pieces of material like flash when one could be doubled, or two could make 4 flashers in the tail, rather than using three to make three flashers? Do you save the cut off pieces for another fly?

    Great fly . This is the first I’ve ever seen or heard of such a fly of this type. How is the best way to fish it? Is it a good trout fly? Thanks again sir.

      Hi Leonard, its a great trout pattern especially fished at night! It also works very well in salt water for bass and sea run trout!

    is this meant to imitate a mouse?

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  Год назад

      It is meant to imitate nothing except a surface disturbance that is a feeding trigger for predatory fish. You must give this pattern a go, it works very well...

    I don't think Jack tied it this way. Nice fly though but seems a much longer process than the original.

      Hi Patrick, thats the way Jack showed me how to tie the gurgler the first time he visited me here in Norway back in 96.

    This is a very simple pattern. Why do you try to make it look so complicated?
