This was great! I've just been grabbing all my dialogue and putting it at what sounds good then grabbing all the music and putting it at half of that loudness. Time to actually polish up.
Thanks for covering the missing Gain Line. I've had the happen a few times, and it's frustrating. I like using the keyframes to adjust the volume for music, thanks for the tip about the Shift key, that will help with future projects.
I learn about audio from your channel and been using them techniques for over a year now in DR. I keep everything in full volume and tweak it about 5-10 times until I get it just right…-0.5db for RUclips. Thankfully my channel is all about background music, with my art clips of course. Keep up the great tips!
This was a brilliant refresher. I do the keyframing stuff but had forgotten totally about ducking. The automation sounds like it would have been very useful for something I did recently so I'll check it out. Cheers!
Are you loving the new Ducker in DR 19 Jason? I bet you are :) never mind the other new awesome effects. I’ll be waiting for your Video on the Fairlight stuff !!
Fantastic set of tips. Curious if you use a headphone amp or are just using the std out of your computer. I guess if you are using the DT770's @80ohm you are probably OK.
I have my headphones plugged into an Audient EVO4, which does support headphones up to 250 ohms. I do have the 80ohm version of the DT770s because I wanted a pair that would work attached to a laptop if I didn't have an amp or interface with me.
I'm starting right now with getting better audio - I always take care when I'm recording but your channel is for me the quint essence of getting the best out of audio for your video. Thank you for those tutorials. Do you also have a video for voice over and tweak it that it sounds like Darth Vader :-D - like the voice over in this video because I can't figure out how to let it sound good - I know I can tweak the pitch but it always sounds "not good" Thank you Best regards
Is there a reason why you did the cut and then added the transition of the audio vs just using keyframes and having it lower that way? I just wanted to know if there was an advantage to doing that. Great video too!
Ive got Manny EQ due to your recommendation, is there any other eq for vocals, I am just recording normal talking head videos, but maybe there is some secret sauce, i am using now comp 1167 => CLA2A, but wat about eq? would be the abbey road channel overkill for vocal audio and then whole master (vocal + background music) would you say manny is enough?
Depending on what the problems with the dialogue might be, I’d just use the built in track eq if necessary in combo with the Manny EQ. Remember, don’t EQ just to EQ, make sure you’re trying to fix a problem. 😜
How can I get my Audio louder. In davinci my Audio seems really loud on my earphones, but if I render and upload my video on youtube it gets quit. Does anyone have a solution to my problem, it would really help me to make my audio better. 😢😢😢
Hey! The best way is to check your audio levels and use your meters to see where it's at. Don't judge it by your headphones. Here's a video about setting levels that should help: ruclips.net/video/uqg8C4g65wQ/видео.html
Question for ya jay, can ya automatically spread out dialog for the duration of a video, say a 10 minute video and a fair bit of dialog, instead of cutting each bit to spread it out, is it possible to automatically do it, if u know what I mean, cheers
Excellent tips. In fact you touched upon a problem I've been having with one of my clips. I can't get the waveform to show itself. I tried moving the gain line up and down, and nothing. I've tried closing DaVinci and opening it several times and nothing. I even tried rebooting my computer several times and still nothing. So when you suggested the different ways to make the waveform appear I tried all of them, and nothing again. The weird thing is, I can hear the track no problem. I just can't see the waveform. I'm trying to edit my video and I use the waveform to show me where I want to make the cuts. Any suggestions? Because I'm at my wits end.
Thanks! You might want to try right clicking on the clip, then go to the audio tab and see what the source inputs are. If one is muted and the other has an input (for a stereo clip), it's possible that you aren't seeing the waves because one is muted. Try making the 2 sources the same thing.
@@JasonYadlovski oh, okay. I hadn't thought of that. Thank you. Though, now that you mention it, I do hear the audio only through the right side of my headphones.
@JasonYadlovski , thank you! Checking the attributes was the thing to do. No sooner did I click Save, and the waveform appeared. I had forgotten that having an audio track in stereo doesn't make it stereo. Thank you again.
Do you have 2 separate tracks? One for dialogue and another for the game audio? If you do, it's an easy fix! If you don't and it's all 1 track, maybe that's possible with the Remix tool.....
If you're recording dialogue while playing and are recording in OBS, you can use the side chain compressor to duck the audio as it records. Very handy for live streaming.
I hope you see this. When I drop music or sfx into DaVinci it sounds very choppy. Without the music it plays fine. But the music starts to sound stuttery. I checked all my settings: 1- Made sure my play back frame rate is the same as my timeline 2- My Audio I/O settings - Playback Processing Buffer size is set to AUTO 3- In the Preview widow (...) i have it set to Show all Video Frame rates 4- Cache rendering is set to SMART Do you by any chance know that is happening? I tried everything RUclips and is showing to do.
😜 the idea started as a 5 minute video, but then I figured there’s too much good stuff to not share it all in one spot. 😁👍 but I did timestamp everything for you.

That Band 4 dip is such a great trick! Thank you for sharing it.

Excellent tips Jason. Am in the middle of a project, was not happy with what I had done. This tutorial is my savior 🙂

A ton of great tips and tricks - cheers, Jason 😁🙏🤘
Thanks Gary!
Absolutely awesome, Jason. Thank you for the work. Well done!
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!
Very cool video. Very informative, on top of that, What a nice thumbnail. Also like the Da Vinci Logo wipe!
Thanks so much!
Love those tips and tricks. So very helpful!!
Glad it was helpful!
peace! nice transition on you at the end of video Jason! :)

I don't have a video on a darth vader sound, but might be a good idea to make one. 😜
Great tutorial. Thanks 😊

Actually, I should have watched the entire video and you do mention it. Is there an advantage of one over the other?
It's really just a preference, I would use the way that works the best for a given situation.

@@JasonYadlovski but don’t they add some extr flavour I just compared normal eq with scheps73 and there is some magic happening, is it placebo 😀?
awesome stuff.

Hey! I don't think you can do that. Resolve wouldn't know where you want to put the audio. I think you've got to do it manually.
@@JasonYadlovski okay thanks for reply, keep up the good work..

Im putting my duck on audio and music on 2.. cant find spatial audio on audio 2 effects.
That's strange, if you are in fairlight, you should see spatial in the mixer....unless its only in Studio and you are on the free version....🤔
Ok!! now do audio ducking for voices over videogames 😎

Hey! I'd say it's gotta be just a playback thing. Does it come out in the Render? Maybe try clearing your render cache and see if that helps. 🤔
