While the majority of the comments are civil and even quite informative, there is also a constant influx of extremely unhinged personal attacks against me which I have to moderate. I refuse to read them any longer. In order to preserve all existing comments, I will simply put all future comments under review, but will not read or approve any more. As a side effect, this also means that normal comments will no longer be approved or read. I'm sorry, but for the sake of my own sanity it has to be this way. GT.

You can also see hints of it in the trailer at the end of the first scene the camera zooms slowly into the back of the main characters head presumably to transition to first person gameplay. Later you can also see it in the scene with old man and graves where the player is walking with them and triggers a cutscene which transitions out of first person into a more cinematic camera.

They took the facial animations directly from them doing their mocap scenes. Which is why she hardly moves her mouth because that's how she talks. Bishop isn't giving a speech for the people in that room he's addressing the whole fleet who can't see him.

    • @GalacticTactic

Interesting point about him adressing the fleet via com. Makes sense. On a second viewing found it was more his stiff head that felt odd, but that might also just be the way the actor moves. I do think that motion capturing improved over the years tho and old stuff might need some polish regardless. But i am no expert so maybe not.

@GalacticTactic Yeah, they have their own mocap studio. Now they originally rented out a place and had it done there for all the big actors. Henry Cavill is probably the only one who did his stuff at the new studio. As he joined later and did all his work for free.

And he didn't want to take away from development funds, so he did it for free he's a backer of the game. He's also the voice of the male archangel at the beginning of the video. Yeah, she's only in the game because her kids are Kickstarter backers. And they said she should try and be in it.
They've shown off a few missions where you find derelict ships in space. Also with persistent entity streaming in star citizen you could be blown up in your ship then go back and find your ship derelict if it wasn't totally destroyed. Or if you crash on a planet your ship will stay there in the dirt or what not and age, rust, covered in overgrowth, etc. until someone salvages it.
The guys at the end are the Vanduul the one in the middle "should" be Andy Serkis's character. And that's a boarding vessel that burrows into the hull and opens up inside.
Lastly everyone who was there that talked to the devs and chris they want it to be out by xmas 2024 but they don't want to disappoint fans or get slaughtered by the media if they miss the date again.

The AI tools they've been building for the last eight years (bartender in the monthly reports anyone?) are part of a subsumption hierarchy under their Apollo middleware that powers Squadron 42. A lot of people have been ragging on CIG for the mentions of bartenders, chow lines, and janitors using mops and buckets, but they're complex behavioural routines for the AI. Why does all of this matter?
For the exact thing you mentioned at 34:30 about having AI crew aboard the ship. They had to design procedural systems so AI can live their daily lives, interact with ships, maintain hygiene, eat, sleep, etc. Some of the current ships in Star Citizen also need slight reworks as they found that the Freelancer was too narrow and the AI crew they were testing couldn't navigate it.
In short, everything you're seeing the AI crew, medical staff, and hangar maintenance groups do in the video will be moved over to Star Citizen when it's time to hire NPCs. None of what you saw was pre-scripted, but rather procedural. That's part of why it's also been taking them so long, but it also makes it easier for them to port those behaviours into the persistence universe (some of the AI combat routines have already been added, such as scavenging for weapons/ammo, and looting the bodies of downed players/NPCs).

I have to disagree, this is the most revolutionary face tech for in game animation on the planet. No game has ever done it better, so to say the best facial tech on earth is bad, seems like you don't understand what other games out there actually have. This is the highest resolution, highest bit rate, highest scalable game in history to date. It is the only game with more realistic physics simulations than any other game ever put together. Nothing you seen in this video was prerendered whatsoever. Yes, the frame issue is to be expected, as every single game has to be visually polished before you can work on fixing any performance issues, that's just game dev, and always will be. Any game you have ever played has played similarly or worse in the same stage before performance polish work.

I am excited for this game for sure. If you're not, that's also fine. What you can't deny is that CIG have always had good in game graphics, none of the stuff is pre-rendered, the worm was for sure an "in engine" asset, but terribly implemented and absolutely it makes sense to be distrusting. The opening scene with "Scully" is from the opening scene of the game where you create your character, so yeah, it will be in game. That said, whether you will enjoy it or not you have a valid point. Can't say I saw the same as you in terms of the animations, I thought they were some of the best I have seen, things like the doctor's interaction with the medicine cabinet and the shotgun being handed to the character were great. I don't think we will ever loose that "uncanny valley" feeling watching animated real people, but they were not at all bad.

i dont think an engine is going to "revolutionise" the industry ever again - games are now at a point of complexity and scale that only a huge studio with massive resources could feasibly make anything innovative. For something like the Star engine to utilise all of this functionality it also needs a large dev team with CIG's budget - and obviously the majority of people don't have that. It's nice that something like this exists but the capability of the engine is far from the only limiting factor now as to why people are unable to create groundbreaking new stuff

The map is awesome by way, it same as will be in PU and goes from local place to spaceship to moon/planet to star system all fluidly.
Also everything is in game. That first opening scene is the exact same scene they showed 6yrs ago updated.
The facial expressions are from the actors when the mocapped them. I don't see what you are missing. 16m40s in your video for Gary Oldman you have lip, cheek, brow, forehead, micro head nodding, micro expressions moving throughout the captured performance. They worked with Pinewood studios in UK to do these captures also. I am sorry but you talk about playing mass effect and then seeing this but those have some of the most wooden animation going. I honestly think you are blind. This is the worst take I have seen on something that genuinely feel looks the best out of so many games that have come out this last decade. You also said that not how to hold a speech but he was talking on comms to the whole fleet not to the 15 people in the ship he was in.
Edit: the interface in the game almost all of us that actually play PvP and dogfight hate it because it is missing all the actual floating HUD you need in a combat situation etc. They made it so much worse than it was. There a reason real pilots and that have it and why things like DCS recreate it because it is what is needed to make it work. We are hoping it will be only that for navigation and when it comes to combat please give back the previous version.

@@GalacticTactic yes it is in-game footage. Have you seen the previous videos? Have you seen the leak. Do you play Star Citizen at all? That is gameplay. And I will go further, the final product will even look better. I say crying not as a personal thing. But so many people keep on talking about the inconsequential sandworm from a presentation that did not have anything to do with it. Now, that was presentation featuring planet tech and a contained concept of the MMO game in 2016. Do you know why, how that presentation was as it was?

well as i said i used to play it to play it for 3 years. But i am not religiously following the development as other do. Which is ok, not everyone has to do that. And if they are smart they would make it more clear for people like me. It would be good advertisment to reach all parts of the target audience, not? I think we are actually not talking about the same point tbh. You seems to think i am worried its wont look as good but thats not at all what i mean. But i am a bit tired of this discussion now so thats the last from me to you now, i am sure you feel the same ^^

and SQ42 is the main war against the aliens... I'm not interested in an fps shooter. will be like Wing Commander, which I never played. I was hoping for a more Freelancer inspired game.
see you in the verse, or maybe twitch... :D o7

That is NOT the game.... this is just another movie to get people to buy into it. The real game is still a bug filled mess. Though with 42 to be fair we have no information on it.. why? because no one has seen it.. it's not listed on any store front like steam or epic and if you were looking to sell this thing it should be there months before release. The avatars in game looked fine from what I saw while playing the test game. the ships look.. well that is a mixed bag, flight is solid but as far as the story if you are looking for one it will be steril. Just be preped for a shooter. That is what it looks an it sounds like that as well, they are even talking about it as just another shooter. If you like shooters then this will be fine, if you like a story then hard pass on it
