I live in Yucca Valley, CA and may I make a suggestion? Travel to the Salton Sea and surrounding areas. Then travel Box Canyon Road where the ground has been shaped in to waves from the San Andreas Fault (in the canyon). Once you pass Interstate 10, You can continue to Joshua Tree National Park.
