I used to have a cat called Artemis... she was a ruthless! She attacked everyone without reason, lived at night and hunted birds and mice. She was definitely aptly named
What’s really amazing about this series is that one can see the commonalities across cultures’ deities. For instance, in the Yoruba pantheon, there’s a deity named Ochosi; he basically represents the same concept as Artemis. Hunter, deer are sacred to him, synonymous with magic, killed his mother by acting too hastily, etc. These commonalities make me think of Joseph Campbell’s “Hero of a Thousand Faces” hypothesis - either something happened globally and we interpreted the phenomenon based on our culture/location or we’re all the same so we create the same stories. Thanks for the series m8!

Thank You so much for this episode Jon! Artemis is my favorite goddess in Greek Mythology. Oke she is cruel but I think that most of her punishments are well deserved( not the one of Callisto) . I hope you also will cover The Messed Up Origins of Apollo her twin brother soon. Even I know al lot( really a lot) of those story's about the Greek Mythology( Because it's my favorite kind of Mythology) I enjoy watching you video's about it( yes the other one's to;)) May I Make one little request? I really would like to see a episode of Scylla en Charybdis. But anyways I love your shows an again thank you so much for this one!
What a wonderful suggestion. 🪨 🌊 🪨
Love the detailed captionssss
you take the moon you take the sun take everything that seems like fun
YES! One of my favorite goddesses! I see her as a pretty balanced goddess-nurturing, free, strong, unapologetically wild and yet she has to be ruthless. Just a little extra detail, in one version of the Iphigenia sacrifice myth, Artemis demanded the princess be sacrificed after Agamemnon killed a hare (that happened to be pregnant), which is also a sacred animal to Artemis and he boasted out loud that Artemis couldn't have done better.
There is a reason I named my daughter after this badass goddess 😎
That’s a great intro and a cool shirt. I’m hooked
Though the Ursa Major incident was unfair. I still hold Artemis in high regard.
Hey. I was curious about her. Thanks for the Greek Mythology lessons!😊
This didn’t turn me off of my girl artemis at all. I already have a tattoo for Athena now I need one for Artemis.
I’m using his pandora video for my easy it has helped so much I love the way he explains things
Can u do ones on slavic mythology? Or comparing greek mythology to slavic mythology
That handy's comment hit me like a freight train. I almost caught whiplash on that double take Jack
Artemis has always been one of my favorite gods she was strong, powerful, skilled, independent didn't take shit from anyone & Gunther is cute by the way Jon.
You should do the goddess Hemera! She is really interesting and not many people know her.
In spite of her short fuse, Artemis is actually my favorite goddess in the Greek lore. I always thought she was pretty cool, and I just love the image of her using the crescent moon as a bow in The Pastoral Symphony in Fantasia.
I love OSP’s interpretation of Artemis!
Thank you John ❤️
Artemis is my favourite goddess, very happy you made this video 💜
I would love to see a video on Hekate
Hey Jon, thanks for another awesome vid!
I'm personally a fan of the Myth involving Artemis and the transformation of two lovers into the Greek equivalent of vampires.
Can't remember the name of the story though...
Sherrilyn Kenyon wrote the book series
I really love the camera angle. Your video on Artemis is great too!
Artemis has the disposition you would expect of a woman with an immortal's worth of experiences being harassed by guys there is no way she would ever even want to talk to.
Exactly what I was thinking! 👌
@@airshipswashbuckler6420 She is fictional who cares
@@tariqyousaf8635 Dang, you good?
Yeah but she went a little overboard with the punishments tho
@@abney_66 That's literally every greek god expect Hades tho. Hera killed women that were raped by Zeus and often their kids as well, Zeus chained a guy to a rock for eternity to have his liver devoured every day because he stole fire, etc. The greek gods are no joke.
14:00 I can’t argue with that picture. It is amazing.
I wonder if he intends to make a series about the other constellations other than the twelve that inspired the names of the Zodiac Signs 🤔
I'm so glad this finally showed up in my sub box. It's been forever since I haven't had to search for you.
Not really relevant, but every time i use to take those quizzes online to see what Greek God/Goddess i was, i'd always get Artemis :]
You're killing it Solo. Fantastic work.
First: I admire his bravery for saying all that on a a goddess who favors girls over men and usually turn them into jackalopes
Second: I still like her the best because I've read way too much Percy Jackson and him saying how awful the gods are
Yes
I read Percy Jackson, honesty I like when I was young but now I don't(well,I still like Clarisse La Rue,Reyna,Sadie Kane and her brother,Zia Rashid,Nico and maybe Frank but just they),Rick is a misogynist,he doesn't respect Pagan Religion, and he says in his books(that are designed to childrens) that a rapist is an excellent father figure and a kind man,but in the same time he says that Ares(who is one of the first Feminist Gods) that he is dump,he like to kill children that want to save Olympus,he is a weak fighter who lost a fight to a 12 years old,and that he is the misogynist and that basically he hate his daughters,in the Sea of Monsters Rick write that he threaten Clarisse,in the Stolen Chariot it's says that only his sons gets his motorcycle for a day and Clarisse is the first daughter in centuries, and in the Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods Rick change completely story of Harmonia,in real world she was given by force to her husband(who kill her brother)by Zeus and after she is transformed intro a snake by Hephaestus,in Rick's book after death of her brother and her wedding,Ares transformed her and her husband intro snakes, and all in Greek Gods(a story in which Percy is the narrator and the commentator) appears Alcippe(daughter of Ares)who is almost rape by a son of Poseidon, and still Ares is the bad guy that killed very painfully that son of the bitch- sorry son of Poseidon, and all that narrattor says is that he wanted to see Poseidon fight Ares because of that him kills his son,and that it is just the obviously things, but are many others things, like in the Lightning Thief when Medusa is accused for Poseidon that rape her,and many other things
@@akffjn6880 wait why don't u like the ones u named
@@souldemon5491 I think I said that on the previous comment, but I don't like Rick because he is a misogyn and what he do to Ares in his books is terrible,I don't like Poseidon because he is a rapist and a misogyn, but I like Clarisse,Sadie and her brother,Zia,Nico and Frank
@@akffjn6880 ares actually isn't that bad
I have a test over the Greek gods so this came out at the perfect time! Now all I need to do is re-watch the other videos!!
Artemis didn't get angry about the childbirth. She was pissed off at the fact Callisto lied to her.
"Like your mother hands out Handys" LOL, I love how you just say that all nonchalant.
I don't mind claiming her a my goddess, though, in real life, my Goddess is Mother Kali. I like the badass goddess trope, though, virgin or not.
I’m into Oya. She’s the Yoruba goddess of storms and rainbows. She was the wife of Shango and was his most chillaxed wife compared to Oshun and Oba who were always at each other’s throats. Oshun is cool too but I can take her in small doses.
