- Vaude Hogan Lightweight Tent Review: Is it Worth the expense?
I was looking for a tent I can rely on in all weathers, strong, light, robust and easy to pitch.
After extensive research, I settled on the Vaude
Can you have it ALL: lightweight AND robust AND easy to use?
I found out over 2 wet and windy nights on a mountain

Nice to see another user of this tent. I took this one with me on a 5 day walk along the Ridgeway (March 2023) in what turned into arctic conditions and even though it is explicitly for "snow-free conditions", it dealt pleasingly well with overnight snow dumps. Having said that, the flysheet does sag and stretch quite a bit when wet, and the weight of snow can exacerbate this. Ultimately, though; i find the sheer number of required pegout points and the slight fiddliness of connecting the flysheet to the pole structure and to the inner, as well as the awkwardness of a fairly low and narrow front entry leave me preferring the Vaude Lizard SUL 1-2p, or even the Taurus (similar in build to the Hogan, but simpler to pitch). None of that matters, though, as you know what you like and it's great that you like it - just posting these thoughts in case they are useful for anyone else (anyone wanting to see it in action in poor conditions could check out my Ridgeway videos, too.)
Thanks for the info: hopefully other viewers will pick up on it. I went for ultra light easy pack & not in a hurricane choice. I'm very fair weather camping, I'll definitely have a look at the Ridgeway!
@@Over_the_Hill it is a great little tent for all the reasons you say and I wish you many enjoyable nights out with it - and while it may not handle a hurricane (what tent would?!), from experience I can tell you it won’t let you down 👍
Great tent, ive got the vaude taurus UL 2, good video👍
@@WildBorkysadventures thanks! I always feel I can rely on it
I had this tent and sold it, it was in showroom condition (secondhand when I bought it), I found the headroom a little restrictive for me as I'm just over 6'1". When you are this height it becomes a challenge to find a lightweight roomy tent, so many have end walls which slope in too much and catch your feet when stretched out. I now have the Vaude Hogan 2P SUL which is bigger and with the additional cross pole gives that extra bit of headroom. I'm going to be using it for the first time next week when I do the West Highland Way. I love the quality of the Vaude Hogan tents.
@@Gus-u5e I could see how over 6ft1 you'd struggle. I considered the bigger tent but went with smaller for lighter, my knees being what they are. Thanks for watching
I have the same tent . At the front where you have the loop over the pole , if you pull that forward there is a little sleeve which the pole should sit in ( diagonal piece of tent material on it )
It gives you a taut fly sheet , apologies if you already knew this .
Thanks for the message, I hadn't seen that, even on the manufacturer video. If you could film it sometime, show me how it's done, I'd appreciate it. I can provide email
@Over_the_Hill if you search youtube for " Instruction Manual VAUDE Hogan SUL 1-2P VAUDE " and it shows you at 1.17 .
If you still want a video can do one tomorrow.
@@ShaunYoung-i3j fantastic, seen and it'll improve my camping, thanks a bunch. I only followed the instructions in the bag so i never saw this!
Hi AJ, I like the look of that, I can honestly say I'd never heard of that make, but looks good, loads of space.
I'd heard of the make, they do rucksacks etc but it was at the higher end of my budget. That said, I did some research looking at weight, etc not just because it's light, but when I use it, I have confidence I'll be dry & safe
Awesome review
Thanks Dave, it was hardly a chore, either
